Left-field manager who replicated Ange Postecoglou's success in Australia emerges as hot candidate for SPFL job

WELL IN Left-field manager who replicated Ange Postecoglou's success in Australia emerges as hot candidate for SPFL job MARK JACKSON has emerged as a shock candidate for the Motherwell job. SunSport can reveal the boss of A-League side Central Coast Mariners is among names being considered to succeed Michael Wimmer. 1 Ange Postecoglou and Matt McKay in Brisbane Roar's Double-winning season Credit: Getty Leeds-born Jackson, a former defender who mainly played in England's lower leagues, has spent the past three years Down Under after previously bossing MK Dons. He has won an A-League Premiership and Championship as well as the Asian Champions League Two title. In the 2023-24 season Jackson and the Mariners won a Double, emulating ex-Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou who achieved the feat with Brisbane Road in 2010-11. Jackson, 47, honed his coaching talents working at Leeds United, where he came through the ranks as a player. After starting out as the Elland Road club's Under-15s boss he quickly moved his way up the ranks. He had experience working under Marcelo Bielsa before being promoted to first team coach by successor Jesse Marsch. Jackson was appointed MK Dons boss in December 2022 with the side sitting 22nd in League One but was sacked just six months later when they were relegated. Well have been searching for a new manager since German Wimmer stunned the club by quitting last month after just 12 games in charge. He claimed his reason for leaving was down to family matters before being appointed as boss of SSV Jahn Regensburg in his homeland. The likes of Tony Docherty and Robbie Neilson have also been linked with the Fir Park vacancy. More to follow. Chelsea transfer target 'speeds away from training ground' as move collapses

Jamie Gittens was hoping to seal a move to Chelsea prior to the Club World Cup kicking off in the USA, but he has now been named in Borussia Dortmund's squad Chelsea transfer target Jamie Bynoe-Gittens appears to be less than impressed that his move to the Blues failed to go through before the Club World Cup deadline. England under-21 winger Gittens, 20, has his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge, and has been receptive to Chelsea's advances ever since the Premier League outfit firmed up their interest in a player who was briefly in their own academy. ‌ Chelsea have reportedly agreed a seven-year contract with the former Manchester City youngster, but on Tuesday they saw their £42million bid for his services rejected by Borussia Dortmund ahead of the 7pm GMT Club World Cup transfer deadline. ‌ The Bundesliga outfit then named Gittens in their 28-man squad for the tournament in the US, and he was filmed by a local reporter speeding away from the club's training ground having been left 'very frustrated' by the episode. The failure to sign Gittens completed a disappointing day for Chelsea, who have also failed in their move for the AC Milan and France goalkeeper Mike Maignan. The 30-year-old has made it clear that he wants to join the Blues, and while Chelsea didn't register a bid they do still hope to make a move for him later in the summer, with Maignan having one year remaining on his Milan contract. Sky Germany also report that Chelsea failed to reach an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for their forward Hugo Ekitike, causing the Blues to pull the plug on a deal for him before the Club World Cup. Liverpool also remain interested in the Frenchman. ‌ Gittens will now hope that a switch to Chelsea can be resurrected later in the summer, and it will be interesting to note if he appears for Dortmund in their Club World Cup group stage matches against Brazil's Fluminense in New Jersey on June 17, South African side Mamelodi Sundowns in Cincinnati on June 21 and Japanese outfit Ulsan HD, also in Cincinnati, on June 25. Chelsea's group stage fixtures are all one day prior to Dortmund's. The Blues begin their campaign against MLS side LAFC in Atlanta before facing Brazil's Flamengo and Tunisia's Esperance in Philadelphia.
