Brad Pitt reportedly resigned to permanently cutting ties with 2 of his kids

Over the past year, it's been reported that Brad Pitt has become estranged from all six of his children following his bitter, nine-years-long divorce battle with their mother, Angelina Jolie.
A new report in the Daily Mail said the 61-year-old 'F1' star still holds out hope for a reconciliation with some of his children but that he's resigned to never having a relationship with his two oldest sons, Maddox and Pax.
Pitt has long been known to be estranged from 23-year-old Maddox, according to reports. Now, when it comes to 21-year-old Pax, a source has told the Daily Mail: 'Brad honestly considers his relationship with Pax unfixable.'
Incidentally, the two young men both were first adopted by Jolie from Cambodia and Vietnam, respectively, before Pitt legally signed on to be their father, early in his relationship with his ex-wife.
In 2023, the Daily Mail reported that Pax, as a 16-year-old, slammed Pitt on his private Instagram account in 2020, calling his adopted father 'an awful human being' after the actor won an Academy Award for his performance in 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.' Pax also called his father 'a terrible and despicable person' who makes the youngest of his six children 'tremble with fear.'
Pitt's issues with Pax came more into focus last summer when the young man was hospitalized with a reported head injury after crashing his electric bicycle into a car on a busy Los Angeles street. His mother rushed to the hospital to be by her son's side, Page Six reported at the time. But Pitt reportedly stayed away or was shut out.
At the time of the accident, Pax wasn't wearing a helmet, and it was reported that he often didn't wear a helmet and had been involved in other accidents. The implication that Pax might be dealing with some issues came up again last month when he was photographed by the paparazzi in the early morning hours, stumbling out of the famed Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles, with a dazed grin and needing to be held up by friends, the Daily Mail reported. The group reported headed to a strip club in the Hollywood Hills, eventually leaving at 2:30 a.m.
The photos didn't go unnoticed by Pitt's camp, the Daily Mail said. But a source said that Pitt has 'washed his hands of Pax's drama.' The actor 'has zero concern with what Pax does or doesn't do. [Pax's] actions reflect who he is.'
Pitt's estrangement from Maddox, and possibly some of his other children, reportedly goes back to September 2016, when the actor allegedly drank too much and became angry and physical with Jolie, Maddox and the other children during a private plane flight from France to Los Angeles. That altercation prompted Jolie to file for divorce and led to Pitt being investigated by the FBI and Child Protective Services. Pitt denied ever being abusive to his children, and no criminal charges were ever filed.
It also was reported last summer that Pitt also has 'virtually no contact' with his oldest daughter, Zahara, 20. Like Maddox and Pax, Zahara also initially adopted by Jolie, in her case from Ethiopia when she was seven months old. She's now a student at Spelman College, a historically Black women's liberal arts college in Atlanta, Georgia.
Jolie and Pitt also have three biological children,19-year-old daughter Shiloh and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. Last summer, Shiloh hired an attorney to file a legal petition to formally drop Pitt's last name from her own so that she would henceforth be known as Shiloh Jolie, instead of Shiloh Jolie-Pitt.
Her decision to drop Pitt's last name reportedly left him 'upset' because he 'never felt more joy than when she was born,' a source told People magazine last year. Another source told In Touch Weekly that Pitt, who once had a close relationship with Shiloh, was 'blindsided' and 'heartbroken' by her decision to drop his last name.
When all the children were young, they used the surname Jolie-Pitt. But Maddox reportedly started the trend of not using Pitt's last name. Zahara followed up in 2023 by identifying herself as 'Zahara Marley Jolie' when she pledged to Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College in Atlanta. Vivienne also goes by the surname Jolie, as she revealed when she was credited as 'Vivienne Jolie' in the May 2024 Playbill for 'The Outsiders,' a Broadway show that she helped her mother produce and which is based on the classic S.E. Hinton teen novel.

Steve McQueen's 'Bass' Strips Down Cinema and Lays Its Bones Bare

Summary WhenSteve McQueenunveiledBasslast year, more than a few were thrown for a loop – unlikeDeadpan(1997) which earned him a Turner Prizer or his Academy Award-winning12 Years a Slave(2013), this work was image-less altogether. Rather, the artist opted for something more pared down, using only light and sound, cinema's building blocks. McQueen bringsBassto Schaulager Basel, marking his return to the Swiss institution twelve years after his landmark eponymous exhibition. Originally co-commissioned by the Laurenz Foundation, Schaulager Basel and Dia Art Foundation, the workdebutedat Dia Beacon last year, where it transformed the museum's cavernous, post-industrial underground into an enveloping sensory field. The piece has since been adapted to complement Schaulager's own architectural character, flooding the space with a 40-minute, immersive presentation of low-frequency tones and spears of shifting hues. 'What I love about light and sound is that they are both created through movement and fluidity.' McQueen wrote in a recent statement. 'They can be molded into any shape, like vapor or a scent; they can sneak into any nook and cranny.' In-hand with this exploration of light – exquisite in its luminosity and imperceptible ebbs and flows – the piece also wrestles with familiar questions for McQueen: those of identity, absence and the trauma of the Black diaspora. Through the temporal-sensorial limbo that isBass, the artist hones in on the 'beginning points' of the 'all-encompassing' – psychological states, layered history, personal memory and the invisible forces that move us. Here, McQueen not only expands our limits of perception, but what we know his canon to be. In doing so,Bassfurther enhances and elaborates on his decades-long interrogation of the moving image, opening up new dimensions to his cinematic universe.
