Nara Lokesh meets Tony Blair in Delhi, discusses on AI and Skill Development

Hans India6 hours ago

Andhra Pradesh's Education, IT, and Electronics Minister, Nara Lokesh, is currently on his second day of meetings in Delhi, where he engaged in discussions with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, founder of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI). The focus of their meeting revolved around enhancing government initiatives through artificial intelligence (AI) in education and addressing skill development and employment for the youth.
The two leaders convened at the Taj Palace, following a previous meeting in Mumbai last July. Their discussions resulted in a signed agreement aimed at improving youth employment opportunities via advanced technology in the educational sector. This partnership enables TBI to provide technical support for the skill development agenda in Andhra Pradesh, including the implementation of a skill census and efforts to facilitate youth employment abroad.
In addition, Minister Lokesh invited Blair to join the Advisory Board of the forthcoming Global Institute for Good Governance, reinforcing the collaborative effort between the Andhra Pradesh government and TBI. The review also touched upon reforms in higher education sparked by the established agreement in December 2024.
Blair confirmed that TBI would participate in the upcoming Conclave of State Education Ministers scheduled for August in Visakhapatnam, marking a significant step in the ongoing collaboration. Education Secretary Kona Shashidhar and TBI representatives were present during the productive meeting.

"This Partnership Is a Good Marriage" - Piyush Goyal Kicks Off IGF London 2025 with UK Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds

PRNewswire London [UK], June 19: On the opening day of India Global Forum London, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal and UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds jointly defended the recently finalised India-UK Free Trade Agreement, pushing back against criticism of national insurance exemptions granted to short-term Indian workers. * Goyal and Reynolds push back against criticism over insurance exemptions, marking first joint public appearance since FTA finalisation In a rare joint session at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre, both leaders addressed concerns surrounding the national insurance exemption for short-term Indian workers, a provision included in the deal that has drawn scrutiny from segments of the British media and political circles. Piyush Goyal dismissed criticism that the insurance waiver was a one-sided concession. "It's unfair to call it a giveaway," he said. "The agreement provides stability and predictability to business, and benefits workers from both sides. In fact, similar arrangements exist in many countries, and this is a win-win for mobility and trade." Reinforcing the principle of fairness, Goyal added: "They should not be double taxed, as they pay social security costs in the UK and India." UK Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds backed the provision, asserting that British workers would not be negatively impacted. He said: "No British worker is undercut by this UK-India FTA agreement. Business mobility has improved due to this; in turn, it has improved access to services and procurement." Both leaders stressed on the strategic alignment between the two nations. UK Secretary Jonathan Reynolds reinforced the need for practical cooperation: "We have built a relationship that allows us to deliver an ambitious agreement like this one. India is one of the most exciting countries in the world, and actually one of the most important; with the problems we face globally, I can't see any way to fix those without India playing a leading role." This was the first public appearance by the two ministers since the FTA's conclusion, and their joint presence on Day 1 of IGF London sent a strong signal of bilateral resolve. Goyal added: "There is hardly anything in which India and the UK compete; we complement each other. I believe this partnership is a good marriage. I see bilateral trade doubling in the next five years." Reynolds also underscored the strength of the bilateral relationship and optimism about the future: "India and the UK have built a relationship to deliver the FTA. I am genuinely excited by the future opportunities for both countries." Echoing this vision of outcome-driven collaboration, Manoj Ladwa, Founder and Chairman of India Global Forum, stated: "We at IGF are building partnerships for the future. We are connecting the dots across sectors, across geographic areas, and across generations. Each initiative is outcome-driven, measurable and future-focused. Powered by three key forces--Technology, Talent and Capital--we are linking Global Britain and Global India in tangible and transformative ways." Day 1 of IGF London 2025 set the stage for a high-powered three-day summit featuring 100+ speakers, 1000+ participants, and sessions across iconic London venues. With bold conversations spanning AI, energy transition, healthtech, geopolitics, and the creative economy, the forum was driving forward the momentum of the UK-India Free Trade Agreement. Omar Abdullah takes ride on newly launched Vande Bharat Express from Srinagar to Katra

Srinagar, June 19 (UNI) J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday took a ride on the newly launched Vande Bharat Express from Srinagar to Katra, officials said. Omar was accompanied by his advisor, Nasir Aslam Wani. ' Omar boarded the Vande Bharat train for Katra from the Nowgam Railway Station this morning,' an official said. " He will later head to Jammu." This comes just nine days after his father, veteran politician and National Conference President Farooq Abdullah, also travelled on the same train to Katra. The Vande Bharat Express, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, began operations on June 7 and has quickly gained immense popularity among locals, pilgrims, and tourists. The two semi-high-speed trains now connect the Kashmir Valley to Jammu's Katra town via Banihal, operating six days a week, with Wednesday as the only non-operational day. Most of the train's services are already fully booked, reflecting the public enthusiasm for this long-awaited project. At the train's official launch event on June 6, Omar Abdullah had lauded the development as a historic milestone. 'Even during British rule, plans were envisioned — such as the proposed Uri and Jhelum railway lines — but they remained unfulfilled. What the British could not achieve, you (Narendra Modi) have made a reality. You have connected Kashmir with the rest of India and, through it, to the wider world. This is a historic accomplishment,' he said. UNI MJR GNK

‘No, Air India CEO is not an SIA nominee.' Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran hits back at Praful Patel, defends Singapore Airlines

NEW DELHI: Tata Group and Air India Chairperson N Chandrasekaran on Wednesday hit back at former civil aviation minister Praful Patel who had raised questions over the culpability of Singapore Airlines (SIA) in June 12's fatal Air India Flight AI‑171 crash. The Tata top boss came out in strong defence of SIA, which is a partner of Air India, while pledging transparency and enhanced safety oversight. On Wednesday morning, Patel in a tweet on X (formerly known as Twitter), termed SIA's public silence as 'deafening'. The former civil aviation minister pointed out that in the aftermath of the Ahmedabad crash, 'there remains a surprising silence — or perhaps ignorance — about the role of a substantial shareholder, and the entity responsible for maintaining a large number, if not all, of Air India's wide-body aircraft.' 'They seem to be in hiding' In a no-holds-barred attack on SIA, the 68-year-old Rajya Sabha member accused the airline of playing a behind-the-scenes role in the crash that killed over 270 people in Ahmedabad on June 12 and wrote, 'They seem to be in hiding.' 'Let's not forget — they have a say in management and a codeshare agreement with Air India,' he captioned his tweet. He categorically questioned whether 'Campbell Wilson, the CEO of Air India, is a nominee of Singapore Airlines,' implying SIA had undue influence and responsibility. 'No, Air India CEO is not an SIA nominee.' Hours after his tweet, N Chandrasekaran, via an interview to television channel Times Now, refuted these claims. 'No, the CEO is not a nominee of Singapore Airlines. In fact, when he was hired by me, he had to quit Singapore Airlines and join Air India as an employee,' he said. The 62-year-old Tata Group Chairman emphasised that SIA held no stake at that point, and Tata was the sole owner and only later acquired a 25 per cent share following the Vistara merger in 2022. Campbell Wilson, #AirIndia's MD & CEO, traveled to Ahmedabad to visit the B. J. Medical College crash site and nearby treatment centers for survivors. He expressed profound sorrow and underscored the airline's full cooperation with authorities.📸 ©️Air India#AI171 #India Acknowledging SIA as a 'great partner', he mentioned that the international carrier has 'helped us in many dimensions… best‑in‑class benchmarks…and their CEO is in constant touch with me.' He also went on to say that the aircraft in question — with new engines installed in 2023 and 2025 — was serviced jointly by Air India Engineering Services and SIA Engineering Company, categorically quashing any claims about Turkish Technic's involvement. Air India MD & CEO Campbell Wilson on the Air India AI-171 crash, operating Ahmedabad (AMD)-London Gatwick (LGW), that had 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, 1 Canadian and seven Portuguese nationals on post: Apology & pledge Chandrasekharan, apologising for the tragedy and the loss of lives, also addressed broader concerns regarding safety, and pledged support to victims' families via an AI‑171 trust fund. He urged that speculation should be avoided till the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau's findings, which are expected to be released in a month's time, citing that the Dreamliner had no 'red flags' and was operated by two 'exceptional' pilots with over 11,500 and 3,400 flight hours respectively. The June 12 crash, which is among India's deadliest in decades, involved a Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner (VT‑ANB), which veered into a college building shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, killing 241 onboard and at least 39 more on the ground.
