
162 cartons of illicit liquor seized
Last week, a similar catch was made from Punjab, which was going to Bihar.
The crackdown was carried out under the special statewide campaign to curb the illegal manufacture, sale, and smuggling of liquor, as per directives of the
Uttar Pradesh
govt and the excise commissioner.
The vehicle, bearing a fake UP number plate was intercepted and found to be transporting 162 cartons—totalling 7,776 tetra packs—of Rajasthan-made foreign liquor branded as Royal Classic Whisky. The liquor was concealed under layers of black plastic and general-purpose crates to avoid detection. The arrested accused—driver Sonu Bagaria and helper Sitaram Bagaria. TNN

Two killed intruck collisionin Bhadohi
Varanasi: Two persons, including a driver and a helper, lost their lives in a head-on collision between two trucks near Navdhan village on the national highway under the Unj police station of Bhadohi district late on Thursday night. The accident caused a traffic jam on the southern lane. The police had to use a crane to remove the vehicles and clear the jam. The bodies were sent for the post-mortem examination. Two arrested for chain-snatching
Mumbai: Two men who had lost money in online gambling were arrested by the Matunga Police after they robbed a senior citizen of her gold chain. The accused, Mohit Sangishetty, 22, and Rohit Gaund, 19, told police they were in need of funds. After the arrests, police recovered gold and a bike, collectively worth Rs 2.4 lakh. TNN

Godman fleeing with 20L held day after FIR
Mumbai: Self-proclaimed godman and his accomplice, who fled with Rs 20 lakh cash from a lawyer after promising to double the money using divine powers and black magic, were arrested by police on Friday within 24 hours of registering an FIR. The arrested accused have been identified as the tantrik Prem Singh Sadhu Maharaj, alias Sachin Sharma (35), and his aide Jaideep Pamecha (25), both of whom sped away on a bike with the cash. Cash of Rs 19 lakh and one Wagon R car have been recovered. Both were booked under relevant sections of BNS. TNN
