Published on: Wed, Jun 18, 2025 Text Size: Dentsu Malaysia brings home 3 Gold, 6 Silver, and 11 Bronze awards across 22 categories at Malaysian Digital Association's D Awards 2025 Kuala Lumpur: Dentsu Malaysia was crowned 'Digital Agency of the Year' at the Malaysian Digital Association's (MDA's) D Awards 2025 with an impressive tally of 3 Gold, 6 Silver, and 11 Bronze across 14 categories. Its CEO Audrey Chong said their amazing sweep of awards is born out of a culture that promotes creativity and acknowledges excellence in innovation.

Shafie denies RM178 million loan write-off claims

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA: Warisan president Shafie Apdal has denied allegations linking him to the write-off of RM178 million in non-performing loans (NPLs) during his tenure as Sabah chief minister and chairman of the Sabah Development Bank (SDB). Responding to the claims circulating online, Shafie said no NPL was written off under his watch and that all financial decisions at the bank were subject to internal processes and credit evaluation protocols. Advertisement 'I categorically deny the malicious and baseless allegations that have been circulated by an online portal,' he said in a statement today. 'These accusations are outright lies that have been manufactured with the intent to deceive the public and destroy my credibility.' Shafie said that as chief minister, he was not involved in the bank's day-to-day decisions or specific loan arrangements, adding that public institutions must be governed by professional processes and not political interference. 'I respected those boundaries and I expected the bank's management to uphold their fiduciary duty to the people of Sabah,' he said. Shafie, who served as chief minister from 2018 to 2020, said that rather than write off loans, his administration focused on recovering problematic debts and restoring financial integrity. 'Writing off NPLs recklessly would have been irresponsible and a betrayal of public trust,' he added. The Senaling assemblyman also questioned the timing of the allegations, saying it coincided with declining public confidence in the current administration ahead of the state election. 'This is a deliberate political smear that has been precisely timed because the current government is struggling. They are afraid of accountability and fear the coming election,' he said. Shafie also warned that he would not hesitate to take legal action against those who continue to publish and spread what he described as lies. 'I have nothing to hide and welcome any impartial investigation. US tariff talks progressing well, says Anwar

Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says meetings in Washington to discuss the tariffs imposed on Malaysian exports are progressing well. Anwar said he had received positive updates from investment, trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz and finance minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan after their meeting with US secretary of commerce Howard Lutnick yesterday. Advertisement 'I received text messages from (them) and they said the meeting went excellently,' he said during his keynote address at the 38th Asia Pacific Roundtable here. Tengku Zafrul travelled to Washington yesterday to continue negotiations on the tariffs imposed on Malaysian goods. He previously said that discussions would focus on three key areas: reducing the current 24% tariff rate, addressing non-tariff barriers, and narrowing the trade imbalance between Malaysia and the US. Malaysian exports to the US face a 24% tariff unless an agreement is reached before a 90-day suspension expires on July 8. Anwar said Malaysia had consistently stressed the importance of regional cooperation in addressing trade challenges, particularly through Asean 'We always emphasise that to secure what is fair for Malaysia, we must present our case through Asean,' he said. 'I urge my colleagues in Asean to do the same. Present a united bilateral position to remain a credible and constructive partner.' Anwar acknowledged that the imposition of unilateral tariffs by the US presented a significant challenge to Malaysia and the region, particularly given the interconnected nature of global supply chains. He stressed that international trade should be governed by transparent rules and legitimate, inclusive legal frameworks, not unilateral tariffs or 'coercive economic measures'. Anwar also warned that disruptions in trade and supply chains could have detrimental effects on businesses and hamper economic growth, further undermining efforts to enhance the region's socio-economic development. He affirmed that Malaysia would continue to engage constructively with global partners including the US, China, European Union, and India to promote both national and regional interests.
