IMD forecasts thunderstorm, rain for Delhi on Saturday
New Delhi, Aug 8 (PTI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorm with rain for Delhi on Saturday.
On Friday, the maximum temperature in Delhi settled at 36.2 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, while the minimum was recorded at 26.8 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degree below the seasonal average, the Met office said.
No rainfall was recorded in the city in the past 24 hours, while relative humidity oscillated between 69 per cent at 8.30 am and 56 per cent at 5.30 pm, it said.
The IMD has forecast a minimum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 36 degrees Celsius for Saturday, with thunderstorm and rain activity expected to continue over the next few days.

Record rains chilled the summer heat in Delhi, show data
Delhi's official weather station at Safdarjung recorded 104.8 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 5.30 p.m. on Saturday, pushing the cumulative rainfall this rainy season to 38% above normal. From June 1, the start of monsoon in Delhi, the city has received 509.22 mm of rainfall. As per India Meteorological Department (IMD) data, the Capital saw rainfall in excess of 45% in June and 24% in July. Rain was recorded in Delhi on all days of July, except 20 and 21. However, the trend of excess rain in the national capital started in May, which is considered to be the peak of summer. The city recorded its wettest May this year since the weather department started record-keeping in 1901. The cumulative rainfall for the month touched 186.4 mm, surpassing the previous record of 165 mm set in May 2008, leading to a relatively milder summer and an extended monsoon. IMD data from 1971 to 2020 show that Delhi has received, on average, 640.4 mm of rainfall from June to September. In 2024, the rainfall was recorded at 1,029.9 mm, categorised as 'large excess'. Over the past 10 years, 2014 saw the driest spell, with 370.8 mm of rainfall, while the 2021 monsoon was the wettest, with 1,169.7 mm of rainfall. Meanwhile, the current spell of rain, which started on Friday night, also resulted in the Capital recording its coldest August day in at least 14 years on Saturday, with the maximum temperature settling at 26.4 degrees Celsius, 7.8 degrees below normal. The previous lowest daytime temperature for August was 27.9 degrees Celsius recorded in 2012. The IMD has forecast more rain on Sunday with 'partly cloudy skies and very light to light rain and thundershowers'.

Heavy rains likely from Aug 15 in Raj

In the evening, some of the outskirts of Jaipur, including Shahpura, Dudu, Bagru and Bassi recorded scattered rainfall. Mahwa was followed by Tijara (Alwar) where 60mm of rainfall was recorded and 30mm of rainfall was recorded at several places in the state, including Todabhim (Karauli) and Jhalrapatan (Jhalawar). Rainfall activity dips, deficit rises over 8%
Panaji: In a lean spell that had moderate rainfall only once in Aug, hardly 73mm of rainfall has been added to the seasonal total, as India Meteorological Department (IMD) has recorded a deficit of 8.3%. Though it hasn't been totally dry, 46.8mm of the rain out of 72.7mm during nine days of Aug has been recorded in 24-hour phases on two occasions. On the morning of Aug 6, IMD recorded a moderate daily average of 33.5mm, the highest during this month this year and 13.3mm on Saturday morning. On seven other days of weak monsoon activity, only 25.9mm were added to the seasonal total. The deficit, however, is within normal range, as the surplus or shortfall below 20% is considered normal. On Saturday, the Sanguem centre recorded the highest rainfall of 23.2mm, Pernem 20.8mm, Dabolim 18mm, Dharbandora 16.6mm, Mormugao 13.6mm, Ponda 13mm, Panaji 12.2mm, Old Goa 11.5mm and other centres on a lesser scale. The figures of Quepem, Margao, Valpoi and Mapusa were not available. IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall till Aug 12 and heavy rainfall in isolated places on Aug 13 and 14.
