Shohei Ohtani, agent accused of exploiting celebrity status to force partners out of $240 million realty deal
Shohei Ohtani and his agent were hit with a lawsuit by a real estate investor and broker in Hawaii, claiming they got them fired from a $240 million luxury housing development by using their celebrity status. The Los Angeles Dodgers' two-way superstar's agent is accused of increasingly demanding concessions from developer Kevin J. Hayes and real estate broker Tomoko Matsumoto and then demanding that their own business partner, Kingsbarn Realty Capital, drop them from the deal. "[Nez] Balelo and Otani, who were brought into the venture solely for Otani's promotional and branding value, exploited their celebrity leverage to destabilize and ultimately dismantle Plaintiffs' role in the project – for no reason other than their own financial self-interest," the lawsuit said, via the Associated Press. "This case is about abuse of power," the lawsuit continued. "Defendants used threats and baseless legal claims to force a business partner to betray its contractual obligations and strip Plaintiffs of the very project they conceived and built. "Defendants must be held accountable for their actions, not shielded by fame or behind-the-scenes agents acting with impunity. Plaintiffs bring this suit to expose Defendants' misconduct and to ensure that the rules of contract, fair dealing, and accountability apply equally to all – celebrity or not." Ohtani and Balelo are accused of tortious interference and unjust enrichment, while also undermining their interests in another venture. Balelo's agency, CAA, declined to comment on the suit, according to the AP. Balelo threatened to pull Ohtani from the deal if their own demands weren't met, the suit said. "Kingsbarn began capitulating to Balelo's every whim," the suit said. "Over time, it became increasingly obvious that Kingsbarn was more concerned about preserving its relationship with Otani than honoring its obligations to its business partners." Ohtani signed his endorsement deal with the developers in 2023. This is not the first time Ohtani has had off-field drama involving large sums of money. His former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, is serving a prison sentence for theft and fraud after stealing money from Ohtani to pay off gambling debts. The money delivered to bookies was from Ohtani's bank account. Ohtani just became the first person since 2018 to hit 40-plus home runs in three consecutive seasons, as he vies for a fourth MVP in the last five years for the NL West-leading Dodgers.

Police seize supercars worth £6m in anti-social driving crackdown
Police have seized supercars worth more than £6 million during a crackdown on anti-social driving. Seventy-two luxury vehicles, including Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Bentleys, were taken off the streets last weekend in an operation targeting nuisance driving in London's West End. The Metropolitan Police said the cars were either unroadworthy or being driven illegally. The operation was launched following complaints from residents, businesses and visitors about high-value cars causing disruption in and around Hyde Park, Kensington and Chelsea. Officers worked with the Motor Insurers' Bureau to issue tickets for a range of offences including driving with no insurance, no licence, disqualification, false documentation and fraudulent number plates. Several stolen vehicles were recovered, with 10 others found to have no valid MoT and 11 without road tax. Eight people were arrested for offences including actual bodily harm (ABH), criminal damage, drug offences, theft and immigration breaches. Those arrested include a 22-year-old man from Hammersmith, held for ABH and criminal damage, who was remanded in custody. Another man, aged 25 and from London, was charged with possession of a class B drug. A 27-year-old man from Watford was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle and released under investigation. A 23-year-old man from Twickenham was remanded after being arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving without insurance or a licence, and drug-driving. Three men, aged 26, 35 and 39, and a 23-year-old woman, all from London, were arrested on suspicion of immigration offences. Special Chief Officer James Deller said the operation responded to concerns over 'high-value vehicles causing a nuisance in known hotspot areas in central and west London'. He added: 'The Met has already reduced neighbourhood crime by 19% over recent months and we're addressing anti-social behaviour caused by uninsured drivers. 'This has been a great opportunity to work with the Motor Insurers' Bureau and for officers to speak with members of the public about the work we do, educate drivers and enforce the law.'

Police pictures of the seized haul showed e-bikes, off-road bikes and stolen cars and vans piled up to be taken in by the force. A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We arrested nine people and recovered 27 vehicles as we continue our investigation into robberies across Solihull. "Our Solihull Neighbourhood Team recently launched Operation Luxray, which is targeting the increase in motorcycle and pedal cycle robberies across the borough. "Starting on Friday, with warrants across Chelmsley Wood and Birmingham, the team carried out intensive action through until Sunday. "Our officers were supported with resources from across the force, including Guardian Taskforce, our traffic officers, and National Police Air Service (NPAS). "Across the three days, we made nine arrests for multiple offences including possession of drugs with intent to supply, dangerous driving, armed robbery, and possession of an offensive weapon. "We also seized 27 vehicles across the three days which included three high-powered e-bikes, off-road bikes, quad bikes, stolen cars and vans, along with multiple mopeds. "Our officers were patrolling across the Solihull borough, and were supported by colleagues from neighbouring forces Warwickshire Police and Staffordshire Police. "Multiple weapons including knives, machetes, and screwdrivers were seized, along with cash and mobile phones believed to be used in crime. "The enforcement is all part of our action to tackle the intrusive and distressing crime, and emphasises our stance that it will not be accepted." Inspector Andy Bridgewater, from Solihull Police, said: 'The warrants and all-out action over the weekend show that we will not accept this offence taking place, and will work to bring those responsible before the courts.'
