Britain's Got Talent star Linda Mudzenda shares 'lonely' experience away from show
Britain's Got Talent semi-finalist Linda Mudzenda is performing in the first show on Saturday - however, the 21-year-old has opened up about the challenges she's faced off screen
Linda Mudzenda can't wait to wow the Britain's Got Talent judges once again on Saturday night as the semi-finalist returns to the ITV stage - however, the 21-year-old has revealed that she's faced a fair few challenges to make it to the competition. Speaking to The Mirror in an exclusive chat, Linda shared how she's find it hard to settle into life in the UK after moving from Zimbabwe to become a child support worker two years ago.
"Honestly, it's not easy. It has its challenges," she said. "It's full of ups and downs because for me, I stay alone, so you get to experience things alone. There's actually no one that you really lean on to so sometimes it gets depressing, sometimes it's good. It's double-sided."
The singer blew away the judging panel with her rendition of You Say by Lauren Daigle in her audition, which won her the Golden Buzzer from Alesha Dixon. While Linda couldn't give away too much about her performance on Saturday, she revealed that it's about finding her identity.
"What I can say – it's defining who Linda is. It's about someone who had lost their identity or something happened along the way, and they are now defining themselves," she said. "They've now found themselves in that situation, and they now know who they are and I think that's just all."
Linda previously opened up about her health and personal struggles ahead of the competition, revealing hat two months before the audition, she didn't have a place to stay, was having problems at work and almost required surgery. The star was diagnosed with a pre-diabetic condition and a cyst on her left side.
Now, Linda is stronger than ever and ready to perform. "It was a tough season for me during that time, but I'm doing OK, honestly. My health has improved. I'm still waiting to see my gynaecologist but I'm fine, I'm healthy, I'm strong."
At work, Linda supports children who have experienced childhood trauma, mental health problems, learning difficulties and disabilities - and is hoping to bring one of them to her performance on Saturday.
"I actually went to work the day after my episode aired and, to my surprise, a young person was actually waiting for me, and he was really emotional as well. He was waiting for me at the door," she said. "He said, 'Oh Linda, I am proud of you. I didn't think you would actually be on TV.' He called all his friends, his mum, and honestly, it was just so emotional as well."
She added: "I'm trying to get my mum to come, we are still trying to do the process. Hopefully, it will all work out. The young person also, he said he wants to come and watch me perform for the semi-finals. He actually promised that he was going to behave well. He's not gonna have any problems so that he can attend. So honestly, it's just overwhelming. It's amazing."
As for what Lidna plans to do with the prize money if she wins Britain's Got Talent, she hopes to treat her mum, who is still living in Zimbabwe. "The first person I would consider is my mum. I would really want to give her whatever she wants because she deserves the world and also, I would, I would love to invest in my music. I'm, I'm taking this opportunity as well to venture now in my solo career, you know share my gift to the world, tour around the world, do my music and grow in music," she said.

Hollyoaks star Ali Bastian reveals her body is ‘under construction' after cancer
Former Hollyoaks star Ali Bastian has discussed her cancer recovery. The 43-year old actress played Becca Dean on the Channel 4 soap for 6 years between 2001 and 2007. After leaving the show, she had a regular role in ITV police drama The Bill, and starred as Becky Clarke in since-axed BBC daytime medical series Doctors. In September, she revealed her diagnosis with stage two breast cancer, confirming that she discovered a lump whilst breastfeeding her daughter Isabella. At first, doctors believed the lump to be a blocked duct, though following a round of antibiotics and further tests done at a specialist clinic, cancerous cells were found. In December, she rang the bell after five months of treatment and, three months later, she revealed that she is cancer free. 'I wanted to update you all,' the star wrote on Instagram at the time. 'I'm on to my final week of radio therapy which should mark the end my active treatment – I hope and pray for good! 'I had my mastectomy in January which was thankfully a success and has healed really well, it proved that my chemo had worked. 'As I sit here right now, I'm free from Cancer. I can't even believe it.' She has now said that her body is 'under construction' and that she's considering reconstruction surgery following a mastectomy. 'I couldn't have a reconstruction at the time because we always knew I'd have to have radiotherapy. At some point there'll be some kind of something,' she told Giovanna Fletcher on her Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast 'Initially I was like 100% it's happening. But now, I want to have the conversations and talk through what the options are, but I'm not actually married to any of them at the moment.' She continued: 'I've got a really good prosthetic that makes a big difference. It means in clothes I feel normal. It's bright pink. It makes me happy. 'It's just very different to the lump of silicone that you get handed in the hospital, which is a hell of a moment. 'This is a lot lighter and easy to wear. I quite like that it doesn't look like a chicken fillet, like a pretend boob. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Who's leaving Coronation Street? She continued to tell Giovanna that she now plans to focus on other health issues, such as a hernia that she developed during childbirth. 'I've got a big old hernia from my babies as well,' she said. 'Because of all of this I haven't been able to have that done, and actually I'm more keen to get that done than anything else because that is harder to hide. View More » 'It's like a tennis ball. Emmerdale pulled from TV schedules amid dead body story
If you're planning on tuning into Emmerdale tonight you're going to be in for a shock, as the ITV soap won't be airing this evening. As the summer nears ever closer, we are slowly getting to the point where sport takes over a lot of the schedule. This happened last week when the UEFA Women's Nations League aired instead of Emmerdale, and will be happening again this evening. Here's everything you need to know. Live International Football begins at 7pm on ITV later and finishes at 10:05pm, meaning there won't be a slot free for Emmerdale to air. The friendly match is a men's game, England vs Senegal. Thankfully, you don't have very long to wait, as Emmerdale will air tomorrow at 7:30pm, for half an hour. The Thursday episode will be broadcasted as normal for one hour, starting at 7:30pm, and then Friday at 7:30-8pm. We ended Monday's episode with John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) forming a plan to try and get Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) off the hook. He is currently a prime suspect in Nate Robinson's (Jurell Carter) murder investigation, and John felt sorry for him when he said that he's desperate to grieve for his son. More Trending John will soon plant Nate's phone in Frankie's playhouse. The police will then search Tracy Shankley's (Amy Walsh) home, leaving them to grow suspicious of her, as they find the device in the garden. Elsewhere, Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) and Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) realise Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) has left Eve alone with his medication, Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) forgets an important anniversary, and Pollard (Chris Chittell) has some important news. View More » Up at Home Farm, a freshly recovered Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) is quick to assume Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) has stolen Clemmie's phone and also, Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) makes another discovery about Sarah (Katie Hill). Who is Love Island's US star Antonia as fans divided by first bombshell
Love Island's first bombshell has been revealed as American pool waitress, Antonia Laites, who is bound to cause a stir among the class of 2025 as the new series gets underway on ITV Love Island's first bombshell is already in the villa and has caused a stir among fans as a new series of the ITV dating show gets underway. Fans couldn't wait for the sexy show to start last night and are in for a whole heap of drama as the new arrival was told that her entrance would send an 'original' girl packing. Pool waitress, Antonia Laites, from Sin City, Las Vegas, arrived as the end of Monday's launch episode to cause a stir among the saucy singletons. While the boys looked thrilled to see a new female in the house, not everyone was impressed. "Oh I can't be doing with the 'dramatic' twists already. Why can't you just see if they get on or not . Bring back the OG style of Love Island and the smoking round the fire pit," complained one fan. "Dumping someone after 2 days. What's the point in getting them in. Absolutely crazy. Waste of time waste of energy. They'd have prepped and gymed and dieted for weeks for this and told their work or whatever. To then be dumped after a day," fumed another. Other fans moaned about the arrival of the first American star in the villa, with one swiping: "Don't we have enough beautiful people of our own?" Stunning Antonia, 24, who was born in Connecticut, but has also lived n Miami, looks after the swanky VIP cabanas at the lavish Fontainebleau Resort in Vegas, where she waits on the rich and famous, while they soak up the sun. Speaking about bagging her 'coveted' job, she said: "I'm always the number 1 in sales at both hotels I work at. I'm a workaholic. You have to audition to get the job I've got - over 1000 people applied. There's only 10 cabana servers! For the audition they set up a fake pool deck, they tell you to load up trays and zig zag through the chairs. "The trays are heavy with pitchers and our large cocktails are really large! I've definitely dropped drinks on people before, but on the whole I'm really good." According to The Sun, Antonia has already sashayed into the villa, with a source saying: "Antonia landed as part of a huge first day and everyone is very excited." When asked who she is looking for in the villa, the American quipped: "Someone that can make me laugh - I'm super outgoing. And someone that's quite active. Maybe one day we could start our own family together." Ahead of her ITV debut, Antonia dubbed the dating scene in the states a 'mess', saying people are there for a 'good time, not a long time'. She also reckons she loves the British accent, claiming "British men are just more polite". She continued: "I've lived in three different states and I'm still single. It's time to try something new! I have some British friends and they're pretty charming. I think all Americans love a good accent. British men are just more polite, with better manners." However, she does have some deal breakers. Listing her "icks", she said: "Bad hygiene. Bad breath. Not getting hair cuts. If we're going on a date and you're not dressed for the occasion, then that's a bit of an ick! "I like to be treated like a lady, going to nice spas in Vegas, being taken to nice restaurants. I'm still waiting to be taken on vacation for a date." Heading into the villa, the brunette said she is looking for someone with "darker hair, definitely muscular but not too muscular. Super fit. Clean hair cut." Antonia has also revealed that she suffers from ulcerative colitis, which is an inflammatory bowel disease and can sometimes lead to life-threatening complications. Explaining that she was left hospitalised and needing an infusion when she younger, the bombshell said she almost missed her school prom but was allowed to go as long as she was back in hospital at 11pm "like Cinderella". Love Island host, Maya Jama, teased Antonia's entrance in last night's show as she purred, while sporting a silk dressing gown: "Oh, I've got a text... I've been expecting this one." She then listened to the message, which teased: "Hey Maya, I heard you want more twists. How about an American bombshell? Get ready, I'm on my way." * Love Island is on ITV at 9pm tonight
