UAE: More visa extension requests from Jordanian, Lebanese tourists amid regional strife

Khaleej Times3 hours ago

Travel agents in the UAE are seeing a rise in inquiries from visitors, especially from Jordan, Lebanon, and other Middle Eastern countries, who are looking to extend their stay due to the current tensions in the region.
Many of these tourists came to the UAE for a short visit but now wish to remain longer, either due to flight cancellations or safety concerns about returning home.
Bharath Aidasani, managing partner at Pluto Travels, said several visitors from countries affected by the regional tensions are choosing to stay back in the UAE for now.
'Flights to some of these countries are being cancelled or delayed,' he said. 'We are getting many calls from visitors who are worried about returning and want to extend their visas or exit and re-enter legally.'
He added that the UAE continues to be seen as a safe place in the region, and many people feel more secure staying here until the situation improves.
Aidasani said that his agency is receiving daily inquiries about visa renewals and extensions. 'Some visitors are scrambling to find a solution. They are either trying to extend their visas or making plans to exit and re-enter the UAE on a fresh visa.'
Some residents cancel summer travel
Subair Thekepurathvalappil, senior manager at Wisefox Tourism, said it's not just tourists who are changing their plans, even UAE residents and expats originally from countries like Jordan, Lebanon, and Iran are postponing or cancelling their summer vacations.
'People who had planned to travel for the summer are now staying back,' he said. 'They are concerned about the ongoing conflict and airspace closures. Many don't want to take the risk of traveling right now.'
Flights affected by tensions
In recent weeks, several flights to and from countries like Lebanon, Jordan, and Iran have been cancelled or rescheduled. The reason: airspace closures linked to tensions in the region, especially between Iran and Israel.
This has also impacted travelers flying through the region, with some connecting flights being missed due to longer routes and delays.
Advice for visitors
Travel experts are advising visitors not to wait until the last minute.
'If you're on a visit visa and unsure of your travel plans, it's better to extend it in advance,' said Subair. 'Delaying could mean paying fines or even overstaying by accident. Act early and speak to your travel agent or apply through official channels.'

Jordan: ABMC says it maintains steady passenger service maintained despite flight disruptions

AMMAN — Arab Bridge Maritime Company (ABMC) has said that it continues to provide 'safe and reliable' services for travellers on its Aqaba-Nuweiba maritime route, despite increased regional disruptions to air travel. The Amman-based company said in a statement that it has maintained regular daily trips between Jordan and Egypt and recently added extra sailings to accommodate growing demand following the cancellation or postponement of many airline flights, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. ABMC General Manager Adnan Abadleh told the Jordan News Agency, Petra, that the company, which operates both the Aqaba-Nuweiba route, a two-and-a-half hour journey, and the shorter Aqaba-Taba tourist route, has become a vital link between the two countries during the current period of instability. 'In light of widespread flight cancellations and diversions due to the recent regional escalation, many travellers, particularly tourist groups, have been unable to complete their itineraries or return home,' Abadleh said. 'Arab Bridge has proven to be a safe and dependable alternative for reaching final destinations.' He also said that passengers using ABMC services can continue their journeys to international destinations via Sharm el Sheikh and Cairo airports. The company also said it is facilitating travel for Iraqi and Syrian passengers arriving from Egypt, whose flights to Baghdad and Damascus were cancelled, by enabling passage through the Nuweiba-Aqaba route, pending official approvals. Abadleh said more than 10,000 passengers were transported over the past three days alone, underscoring the company's adherence to maritime safety protocols and its commitment to offering secure and accessible transport. He added that travellers can book tickets either online or through ABMC offices in Jordan and Egypt, noting that the company offers competitive pricing, making sea travel a safe and economical alternative amid ongoing air travel uncertainty. © Copyright The Jordan Times. Jordan remains safe tourist destination amid regional tensions — tourism minister

AMMAN — Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Lina Annab said on Sunday that Jordan, despite the surrounding regional circumstances, continues to enjoy security and stability, maintaining its position as a safe tourist destination welcoming visitors from around the world. Speaking at a meeting held on Monday with tourism sector operators and stakeholders, Annab emphasised that preserving Jordan's tourism image requires a unified team spirit within the sector and full co-operation between public and private entities to address the challenges facing tourism, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. Annab announced plans to establish a dedicated operations room within the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. 'The unit will comprise representatives from across the tourism sector, with the goal of improving coordination, streamlining roles, and ensuring continuity of operations in light of shifting regional dynamics. The minister also outlined upcoming efforts to roll out joint promotional campaigns and comprehensive marketing strategies aimed at boosting tourism and reinforcing Jordan's global presence. 'These initiatives will be developed in collaboration with tourism partners across sectors.' 'We will continue supporting domestic tourism while enhancing cooperation with international and regional tourism organisations to sustain momentum and promote long-term development across the Kingdom,' she added. Annab also confirmed that her ministry is working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Royal Jordanian Airlines to assist Jordanian citizens stranded in foreign airports due to flight suspensions stemming from regional tensions.
