Ducati's Marc Marquez won the Austrian Grand Prix sprint on Saturday despite starting on the second row of the grid, beating his brother and closest championship contender Alex to the finish line at the Red Bull Ring.
Having never won a race in Austria, the Spaniard executed a flawless race from fourth on the grid to take his 12th sprint victory in 13 rounds this season, underlining his supreme dominance in the shorter format.
The victory moves Marc Marquez 123 points clear of Gresini Racing's Alex Marquez at the top of the championship and 180 above Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia, who was forced to retire due to problems with his bike.

Bekh-Romanchuk given four-year ban after testing positive for testosterone, AIU says

The Athletics Integrity Unit has suspended Ukrainian athlete Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk for four years after she tested positive for testosterone in an out-of-competition urine sample collected in December 2024, the AIU said on Tuesday. Bekh-Romanchuk, who has won silver in long jump and triple jump in the world championships, denied taking testosterone but could not explain the presence of metabolites of testosterone in the sample, the AIU said in a statement. The 30-year-old, who won gold in triple jump in the 2022 European Championships and the 2023 European Games, said she strongly disagreed with the AIU's decision, adding that she was taking a break from athletics to focus on her family and health. "I refused to sign any documents that required me to admit my guilt because I am an honest person and my humanity and dignity are important to me," Bekh-Romanchuk posted on Instagram. "Today, I have to make a difficult choice. I can no longer fight on two fronts — for my good name before the Athletics Integrity Unit and for my future in my personal life. "It is incredibly exhausting, especially emotionally, and it affects my health... that is why I have decided to take a break to focus on my family and my own health." Bekh-Romanchuk's period of ineligibility commenced on May 13, the day she was provisionally suspended, the AIU said.

'There are no regrets whatsoever' — Former British No. 1 Kyle Edmund to retire from professional tennis

Photo: Kyle Edmund, the former British No. 1, has recently announced his retirement from professional tennis. Edmund shared that he had decided to 'put down' his racket and move on. He stated that this decision is hard, but it felt right, especially with all of his injuries in the past. In the past 5 years, the 30-year-old athlete has had three surgeries, which made him decide that his body is finally telling him that it has reached its endpoint. ' Looking back, I can say I tried my absolute best in my career and my hardest to get back to where I was… The last five years have taken a toll with three surgeries and other injuries such as wrist, ab, hip and foot,' he shared. Despite all of his medical conditions, Edmund reached No. 14 in the world rankings, and he played his last match against Jack Pinnington Jones in July. 'There are no regrets whatsoever,' he further added. Edmund's tennis career The highlight of his career was when he reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open back in 2018, but it ended in defeat against Marin Cilic from Croatia. By reaching the semi-finals of the said event, he made history by becoming the second British men's player to reach the last four of the tournament in the Open Era, alongside Andy Murray. The 2018 season was the only year in which Edmund advanced beyond the fourth round of a major tournament. In 2016, he reached the fourth round of the US Open, his second finish at a Grand Slam. Furthermore, he won two ATP 250 titles at the European Open in 2018 and the New York Open in 2020. He was also a member of the Great Britain squad that won the Davis Cup back in 2015, together with Andy and Jamie Murray. View this post on Instagram A post shared by LTA (@lta) On social media, athletes and fans expressed their love and support towards Edmund. Andy Murray himself stated: '👏👏👏 great stuff Kedders!' Another British player, Julian Cash, said: 'Congrats mate! Amazing career, and always had huge respect for how you dealt with the tough moments through injury. Wish you the best with the next chapter 🫡' Marcus Willis also remarked: 'Inspired by how you went about your tennis, how you battled through your injuries, will miss watching that fearhand. All the best, fella.' Another comment from a netizen declared that this chapter of Edmund's life is not the end, but a beginning of something new. 'I hope you'll stick around in the tennis world; share your wisdom and experience with someone else. All the best Kyle — you've done us British tennis fans proud 🇬🇧❤️' the comment concluded. Lakers G Luka Doncic cleared to play for Slovenia after injury scare

Two days after Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic left a game for his native Slovenia following a right knee injury, he was cleared to resume playing as his national team prepares for the upcoming EuroBasket competition. Doncic avoided a potentially serious injury Saturday after a teammate was pushed toward the ground and into his lower legs under the basket during a game Saturday against Latvia. Doncic initially appeared to be in severe pain before walking off the court and to the locker room with a noticeable limp. He returned to the bench later in the game. Slovenia is scheduled to face Great Britain in a an exhibition game on Tuesday. Doncic, 26, was acquired by the Lakers in a surprise trade with the Dallas Mavericks in February and then signed a three-year, $165 million contract extension earlier this month. Doncic averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists in 28 games (all starts) after his move to the Lakers. He is averaging 28.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists in 450 career games (all starts) over seven seasons with the Mavericks and Lakers.
