Soon, WhatsApp will offer AI-powered summaries of unread messages: Details
Earlier this year, Meta announced its plans to introduce cloud-based AI features on WhatsApp, including tools to summarise unread chats and provide writing suggestions. These capabilities now appear to be entering the beta testing stage.
According to WABetaInfo, the message summary function is currently available to a limited group of Android beta testers, with a wider rollout anticipated in the coming weeks.
AI summary for WhatsApp Unread Messages: How it works
The report explains that once Private Processing is enabled in the app's settings, users will see a special button when they have multiple unread messages. Tapping this button sends a secure, private request to the Private Processing system, which then generates a summary of the unread content. The report highlights that this process remains fully private, with no user data being stored.
Private Processing ensures that all data is handled locally on the user's device, without access by WhatsApp, Meta, or any third-party entity. User interactions remain anonymous and unlinkable to personal identity, thanks to encrypted connections and secure routing.
This functionality can be particularly useful for quickly catching up on long threads in active group chats, offering a brief overview without needing to scroll through every message—while keeping user privacy intact.
The AI message summary is entirely optional. Users who prefer not to use it can simply ignore the unread messages button or disable the feature via Private Processing settings. Additionally, users with Advanced Chat Privacy enabled will not have access to this summary function.
What is Private Processing?
Meta previously introduced Private Processing as a way to protect user data while handling AI requests in the cloud. The system, described as a confidential computing framework, mirrors Apple's Private Cloud Compute (PCC), which was introduced last year to support Apple Intelligence while preserving privacy.
According to Meta, Private Processing enables secure handling of AI-based tasks like message summarisation and writing suggestions, without granting access to personal data. It creates a protected virtual cloud environment where tasks are performed without Meta—or anyone else—seeing the actual message content.

Noel Tata's mega plan, this company eyes Rs 70000000000 value of…, from ‘Aashiyana' in…
Tata Steel plans to double the gross merchandise value (GMV) of its homebuilding e-commerce platform 'Aashiyana' to about Rs 7,000 crore in FY 2025-26, a senior company official said. For the first time, the steel giant is also exploring the addition of non-Tata Steel products to broaden its range of offerings, the official added. 'All of the GMV on 'Aashiyana' currently comes from Tata Steel products, but we do plan to expand our offerings in the near future,' Tata Steel VP (Long Products) Ashish Anupam told PTI. Tata Steel Eyes Rs 7000 Crore GMV The platform recorded a GMV of Rs 3,550 crore in 2024-25, registering a 60 per cent year-on-year growth, and with the rollout of 'Aashiyana 3.0' – the newly launched version of the platform Tata Steel expects to double the GMV over the next one year, he said. Initially launched as a transactional e-commerce site, 'Aashiyana' has now evolved into a full-fledged content-to-commerce ecosystem designed specifically for individual home builders (IHBs) – a largely unorganised but significant segment of India's construction market, officials said. 'With 'Aashiyana', we are not just digitising the buying process, we are empowering individual homebuilders to make confident, informed decisions from blueprint to brick,' Anupam said. What Aashiyana Offers? The steel company said its upgraded platform offers over 300 curated home design plans, budget calculators, planning tools and AI-powered product recommendations. It also provides access to stage-by-stage construction guides, educational content across 31 topics, and omnichannel support through WhatsApp and chatbots. The platform has crossed 1.1 lakh registered users and seen strong uptake from the Indian diaspora. Orders have been placed from customers across 24 countries, led by the US, UAE and the Netherlands, the officials said. 'There's a growing interest among NRIs to build homes back in India for their families. 'Aashiyana' allows them to remotely plan and procure materials with greater confidence for their requirement back home,' he said. By offering tools such as material estimators, document vaults and visual inspiration boards, Tata Steel is aiming to position 'Aashiyana' not just as a commerce platform but as a homebuilding advisor, Anupam said. iPhone to get ChatGPT 5 integration with Apple Intelligence via iOS 26 update
Apple will release the stable iOS 26 update to compatible iPhone models next month. The next-gen update will bring several enhancements to iPhones, including upgrades to Apple Intelligence features for iPhone 15 Pro models, iPhone 16 series, and iPhone 17 series. With new AI features, Apple has confirmed to integrate OpenAI's new GPT-5 model into Apple Intelligence following the launch, enhancing its capabilities. In addition to iPhones, the new ChatGPT-5 will also be rolled out to other devices supporting Apple Intelligence with iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26 next month. Here's what it means for Apple users, and how they can take advantage of the GPT-5 model on a day-to-day basis. Apple Intelligence will likely be integrated with ChatGPT-5 next month. Here's what we know so far.(Bloomberg) Apple Intelligence to be powered by GPT-5 Apple has confirmed to bring OpenAI's latest AI model, GPT-5 to iPhone, starting from next month with iOS 26 stable release. Currently, iPhones use OpenAI's GPT-4o model to resolve user queries. Now, with the new model, users can take advantage of advanced ChatGPT capabilities. While this news may excite many, it is unclear if GPT-5 will be rolled out to iPhone users as part of developer or public beta testing, before its official release. But how ChatGPT-5 can be used on an iPhone? Well, users can add ChatGPT as a default AI assistant to work with Apple Intelligence. Once it's activated, iPhone users can activate Siri to access GPT-5 capabilities. This way, users can prompt ChatGPT directly via Siri for their small queries, tasks, and others. Another way to use GPT-5 on iPhone is via the Writing Tools. iPhone users can leverage ChatGPT-5 to compose, refine or rewrite text with first-party apps. It also helps users generate AI images. However, the free version will come with limitations. Lastly, ChatGPT-5 can also be used with visual intelligence, where users can ask questions related to places and objects. iOS 26 also gives iPhones the ability to conduct image search; therefore, it also gets access to ChatGPT's latest AI model. Apart from the GPT-5 model, Apple Intelligence is gaining several new capabilities with iOS 26. These new enhancements include Live Translation in FaceTime, Phone, and Messages, image search via visual intelligence, improved image generation in Image Playground, and more across the user experience. However, we will have to wait until September to get hands-on with the iOS 26 update.

Manamithra to offer 700 services from Independence Day
Rajamahendravaram: The Andhra Pradesh government is set to vastly expand its WhatsApp governance platform, "Manamithra', by increasing the number of available services under it to 700 for enhancing citizen convenience. This rapid expansion will take effect on August 15, marking a major milestone in the state's push for technology-driven governance. The "Manamithra" initiative, launched in January initially with 161 services pertaining to 26 government departments, has been steadily growing. Officials report that the platform currently offers around 500 services. The government's decision to further expand this number to 700 is aimed at providing comprehensive access to public services directly from citizens' mobile phones, eliminating the need to visit government offices. To access the services, citizens simply need to save the government's WhatsApp number, 9552300009, as 'Manamithra' on their phones. By sending a 'Hi' message, they will receive a reply with the AP government's logo. Users can then select their preferred language and choose a service from the provided list. The platform also supports voice commands and allows for additional details to be requested via the chat box. The government has launched awareness campaigns, with the help of Sachivalayam employees, to ensure that citizens are well-informed about the platform. This initiative allows residents to access services and file complaints from anywhere in the state. The government claims that Andhra Pradesh is the only state in the country to offer such a wide range of public services through WhatsApp. This reflects the administration's focus on integrating technology into day-to-day governance. The platform provides a variety of services, including access to student exam hall tickets, ration card services, and checking the status of welfare schemes like "Thalliki Vandanam" and "Annadata Sukhibhava'. Users can also pay for licences and taxes, book temple darshans, and check exam results from the comfort of their homes. The system is designed to be user-friendly, with access available in both Telugu and English. To ensure security and efficiency, all departmental data, including beneficiary information, has been integrated with the platform. The government has implemented requisite measures to protect personal data. The platform also provides certificates and other documents with a QR code. According to officials, in the future, scanning these QR codes will help distinguish between genuine and fake documents. Users can track the status of their requests using their Aadhaar number, mobile number, or a service request ID. For payments, a secure payment link is sent via WhatsApp, and a digital copy or receipt pertaining to the transaction can be downloaded.
