Players around the league are making their way back to their respective teams as the overseas tournament concludes international play.
On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Sparks welcomed back Julie Allemand, who was playing with the Belgium National Team during the EuroBasket event. Allemand helped Belgium earn a medal at the tournament.
As Allemand returned, the Sparks announced the release of WNBA veteran Odyssey Sims, who has played for the team for several seasons throughout her 12-year career.
"The Los Angeles Sparks have waived guard Odyssey Sims," posted the Los Angeles Sparks' public relations team.
Odyssey Sims had played in 12 games and started 11 games for the Los Angeles Sparks before being released by the organization.

The move was certainly an unexpected turn of events in the WNBA landscape because Sims carved out a significant role with the Sparks.
During her time in Los Angeles, Sims posted 9.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
Before her time with the Sparks this season, Sims also played for the Dallas Wings (formerly the Tulsa Shock), Connecticut Sun, Minnesota Lynx and Atlanta Dream. She began her professional career in 2014 after a successful college career with the Baylor Bears.

Julie Allemand will look to make an impact on the Los Angeles Sparks, seemingly earning a larger role with the roster changes. During her first season with the Sparks, Allemand has posted 2.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game in eight games played.

3 things to look for as the Philadelphia 76ers begin the summer league
The Philadelphia 76ers will begin the summer league on Saturday when they take on the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City. They will play three games in Utah before heading to Las Vegas on July 10 to play at least five games out there. The Sixers will be looking to see what they have in their younger pieces. The final score doesn't matter much in summer league--although there are the summer league playoffs in Vegas for those who care--as it is all about development and growth. It allows the rookies to make a good first impression and allows the second-year players to take steps forward in their respective games. Advertisement As the Sixers begin play in Utah, here are three things to look for throughout the summer league: VJ Edgecombe as a point guard Mar 13, 2025; Kansas City, MO, USA; Baylor Bears guard VJ Edgecombe (7) drives to the basket around Texas Tech Red Raiders guard Elijah Hawkins (3) during the second half at T-Mobile Center. Mandatory Credit: William Purnell-Imagn Images Edgecombe is more of a shooting guard, but versatility is a huge part of today's NBA, and if the Sixers can develop him into a ball-handler, then that changes things in the backcourt. Philadelphia is all about the growth of the youngsters at the moment, and Edgecombe taking steps forward as a ball-handler and playmaker makes things easier for everybody on offense. He has the athleticism to get by any defender and a real pop when he rises up to the basket so the Sixers want to take advantage of that by putting the ball in his hands. Adem Bona shooting 3s Oct 16, 2024; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Philadelphia 76ers center Adem Bona (30) in action against the Brooklyn Nets during the fourth quarter at Wells Fargo Center. Mandatory Credit: Bill Streicher-Imagn Images Bona was seen working on his 3-point shot while at summer league practice and is looking to grow as a player. When considering this is the summer league, it would behoove the Sixers to look into growing Bona as a player who can knock down looks in the corner. He is a tireless worker who is looking to expand his game and the summer league is the perfect time to let him fire it up without any fear of being sent to the bench or anything like that. The Sixers need help on the frontline and will be looking to Bona to take that next step. Adding this aspect of his game would be a big help. Johni Broome at power forward Feb 11, 2025; Nashville, Tennessee, USA; Auburn Tigers forward Johni Broome (4) dunks the ball against the Vanderbilt Commodores during the second half at Memorial Gymnasium. Mandatory Credit: Steve Roberts-Imagn Images The Sixers selected Broome with the No. 35 pick in the 2025 NBA draft and some question what his true position really is. Some believe he is an undersized center due to a lack of quickness to play the 4 while most believe he can play the power forward spot due to his soft touch on the offensive end and his high basketball IQ. The Sixers will experiment with him at both big man spots and see what he can do. Either way, Broome should be closer to the basket due to his high offensive rebounding rates and how he can create many extra possessions for Philadelphia. That will be a big development. Amateur baseball player makes ingenious play to avoid potential double play
You never know what you might see on a baseball field. Duluth Huskies third baseman Ethan Surowiec fielded a groundball, as a baserunner, during the team's 5-4 win over the La Crosse Loggers on Tuesday at Wade Stadium in Duluth, Minnesota. The bases were loaded in the bottom of the inning with one out, and the Huskies were up to bat. Surowiec was the runner on second base when a ground ball was hit to Loggers shortstop Mikey Ryan III. After the ball was hit, Surowiec took a couple of steps to his right and fielded the ball himself, like a shortstop, instead of letting it through to the actual shortstop, Ryan, to avoid a potential double-play. "Oh my goodness, I have never seen that on a baseball field," the announcer said. "Ethan Surowiec picked up the baseball (and) purposefully gave himself up." The umpires deemed the play a "fielder's choice 6," which allowed for the bases to remain loaded. The runner on third base remained, while the runner on first base advanced to second base, and the batter went to first base. Surowiec's quick-thinking gave the Huskies a chance to capitalize, as giving himself up allowed the inning to continue. However, according to the Baseball Rules Academy, the umpires got the call wrong. Rule 6.01(a)(6) states that both Surowiec and the batter should have been ruled out. "If, in the judgment of the umpire, a baserunner willfully and deliberately interferes with a batted ball or a fielder in the act of fielding a batted ball with the obvious intent to break up a double play, the ball is dead. The umpire shall call the runner out for interference and also call out the batter-runner because of the action of his teammate. In no event may bases be run or runs scored because of such action by a runner," the rule states, accordiong to the Baseball Rules Academy. If the umpires had enforced the rule according to what the Baseball Rules Academy stated, both Surowiec and the batter would have been called out to end the inning. Surowiec's seemingly ingenious play would have resulted in the same outcome he was trying to prevent: an inning-ending double play. His deliberate play to interfere with the baseball ended up as a moot point, as designated hitter Paul Gutierrez Contreras then hit a flyout to right field and stranded the three runners. The Huskies improved to 3-1 with the win, and they sit atop the Great Plans East division in the Northwoods League, while the Loggers fell to 2-2 with the loss.
