Once a lonely island with nothing more than a crumbling Napoleonic fort, Thorne Island has now been transformed into a lavish party destination reminiscent of a James Bond film, all thanks to the vision and persistence of a former software engineer, Mike Connor.
A Bold Investment
In 2017, Mike spotted the remote island on a YouTube video. At the time, the only structure was a derelict fort once used for military defence. Captivated by its potential, he purchased Thorne Island for just £55,500 (approximately Rs 6.53 crore).
Rather than leaving it as a private retreat, Mike set out to completely renovate the site, investing over £2 million (approx. Rs 23.52 crore) to revive the structure. Now, after five years of dedication and transformation, the island is back on the market, this time for £3 million (around Rs 35.25 crore).
A Five-Year Labour Of Love
Transforming the crumbling fortress into a high-end private venue took five years, during which Mike poured in both time and money. The island, once deserted and fortified, is now equipped to host up to 800 guests, offering a 24-hour immersive experience for those seeking total seclusion with luxury.
Mike's solution? An impressive 350 helicopter trips in just two days, ferrying everything needed to complete the renovation.

Box office vs budget According to reports, the film was made on an extravagant budget of around Rs 300 crore. Despite this, it collected only Rs 116.82 crore worldwide, as per a Sacnilk report. Even after factoring in the OTT rights deal, the film failed to recover its total cost and was widely termed a box office disaster. OTT version features a new climax Pawan Kalyan plays the titular character Hari Hara Veera Mallu, an outlaw on a mission to free the Koh-i-Noor from Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, portrayed by Bobby Deol. While the theatrical version received criticism for its underwhelming visual effects and lack of polish in many sequences, the OTT cut introduces significant changes. In theaters, the film originally ended with Aurangzeb (Bobby Deol) declaring, 'A storm is coming.' This was after producer AM Rathnam trimmed the climactic battle between Veera Mallu and Aurangzeb during a cyclone. The OTT version, however, ends after the song 'Asura Hananam' and features a sequel announcement, removing the storm sequence entirely. This has resulted in the film now having three distinct endings across its edits. Viewers have also noted that the OTT version features improved VFX, making several scenes look more refined than they did on the big screen.
