Announcing his departure on Instagram today, Matt wrote, "After 27 fantastic years, I have taken my final steps down the drum riser for the mighty Pearl Jam.
"Much love and respect to Jeff, Ed, Mike and Stone for inviting me into the band in 1998 and for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, filled with friendships, artistry, challenges and laughter.
"I am forever grateful to the crew, staff and fans the world over. It's been an incredible journey. More to follow. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.'
The remaining members of Pearl Jam - Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament and Mike McCready - have shared their appreciation for Matt.
A band statement read, "From being one of our first musical heroes in the bands Skinyard and the mighty Soundgarden, to playing on our first demos in 1990, Matt Cameron has been a singular and true powerhouse of a musician and drummer.
"He has propelled the last 27 years of Pearl Jam live shows and studio recordings. It was a deeply important chapter for our group and we wish him well always. He will be deeply missed and is forever our friend in art and music.
"We love you Matt."
Devastated fans were just as effusive in their praise, with one writing, "Matt, thank you for all your dedication and love. We love you and will miss you so much."
Another said, "Thank you for everything and for all these years.
You are amazing."
A third posted, "No way man !!! Buy thanks for everything Matt Cameron."

Others speculated that Josh Freese, who was recently fired from Foo Fighters, could be the man to replace him.
Pearl Jam released their 12th album Dark Matter last year and Matt's propulsive beats on the record received widespread acclaim.
Twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of two iconic grunge bands, Matt was ranked 52 on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time list in 2016.
He played on all six of Soundgarden's studio albums, the latest of which was 2012's comeback record King Animal.
Five years after its release, frontman Cornell was found dead in his hotel room shortly after the band's gig in Detroit.
With Pearl Jam, Matt played on seven studio LPs, the first of which was Binaural in 2000.
He was also a member of Temple of the Dog, a grunge supergroup formed in 1990 to honour Andrew Wood, the Mother Love Bone frontman who died of a heroin overdose.
Effectively Pearl Jam with Cornell, the band's sole studio album peaked at number five on the US chart.

Tinder co-founder continues to build his empire with $120M project

By El Encanto looks over the Pacific Ocean and charges guests over $1,000 a night for a luxury experience in one of its 92 rooms across the seven-acre estate. It boasts a 'serene and quiet' atmosphere situated on the Riviera. Forbes called it 'an elegant Santa Barbara hideaway.' Guests can enjoy sweeping views from an array of Riviera-inspired bungalows and villas. Mateen purchased the hotel from Belmond, the hospitality company of retailer LVMH. El Encanto was their only hotel in the United States. He embarked on this project alongside his brother Tyler Mateen and Culver Capital, an investment banking and business consulting firm. He told Robb Report: 'We will be pouring love and resources into this iconic property to continue that legacy and ensure that it remains a top destination for visitors from around the world and down the block.' The property was originally purchased in the 1870s and became a hotel in 1918. It has been visited by many of Old Hollywood's dazzling elites like Clark Gable and Carole Lombard. Even 100 years later, the glamorous hotel continues to serve stars like Gwen Stefani, Barbra Streisand, and Leonardo DiCaprio. The hotel will remain open during renovations, which are set to take approximately three years. The first order of business is a complete makeover of the grounds with the help of LA architect Mark Rios. The plan is to turn the property into a 'mystical garden.' They also plan on replacing a few of the rooms with coffee shops and membership clubs but want to keep its original character and charm. Over the past few years, the brothers have been dedicated to purchasing high-profile real estate properties in Southern California. The area's real estate scene is notoriously difficult to break into, but Mateen seems to have had no problem building his empire. In June, the duo spent $69 million on a retail property near the famous TCL Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. They acquired the Hollywood Galaxy shopping center and the historic Peterson building, which sits next door and once housed a Cadillac dealership. In 2024, in partnership with Pouya Abdi, the brothers spent millions on a five-story office building called the Wilshire Rodeo Plaza in LA, which they hoped to fill with retailers and a rooftop restaurant. The same year, the brothers acquired HHLA entertainment center in Westchester near Playa Vista. They're refurbishing it to house the immersive entertainment company Meow Wolf, among other retail tenants. Mateen and his brother are strategically spending money on their hometown of Los Angeles. The commercial real estate market in the region is currently on a downswing, but the brothers are confident their investments will pay off when it bounces back in the next few years. El Encanto is just one of their many ventures that will help transform their beloved hometown. Under its new leadership, the hotel will operate as a boutique, untethered by any hospitality chain or company. Tyler Mateen said: 'We want to control what's on the menu and how the staff are working.' With hotel sales on the decline in California, coastal properties are looking to sell to affluent buyers who intend on hanging onto the hotel for years to come. That makes the Mateens' $120 million total investment worthwhile. Justin Mateen said the resort 'is something that we're going to hold in our families forever.' Daily Mail reached out to Justin Mateen for comment.

Amon-Ra St. Brown's dad leaves fans furious with racially-charged comment about sleeping with white women

The father of NFL stars Amon-Ra and Equanimeous St. Brown has sparked controversy after telling his sons to avoid sleeping with white women in order to breed better athletes. John Brown - a former bodybuilder - is the father of three Division 1 athletes and claims he is regularly asked how he managed to produce such talented athletes. In a resurfaced clip from last summer that has gone viral this week, Brown tells his sons: 'I believe in breeding. Look at you, good athlete, I'm black, mom is white. 'I've done stepped on it once, you can't keep stepping on it because you're going to mess it up. You're going to weaken it.' To that, Lions receiver Amon-Ra asks: 'You can't keep cutting it?' to which John replies: 'Can't keep cutting it. You and Brooklyn [Adams, his fiancee], because Brooklyn's half and half, you've got a chance. 'You've got to be careful, you've got to think about that. I'm black, I've got the black gold running through my veins, I'm excited and just going to find the right person to mate with. John Brown keeps it real when people ask him about raising three boys that got a D1 scholarship, two of which made it to the NFL 🗣️ — St. Brown Podcast (@StBrownPodcast) July 12, 2025 'If I'm white, I'm saying "let me get one of those brothers around here", if you want to have athletes. If you don't want to have athletes, then go and spread your seed whenever.' John was then asked why he opted to breed with a white woman - a German named Miriam - to which he replied: 'I knew I could cut it once, because I've got that black gold in me. 'Mama got that big chin and big toes. Ain't nothing wrong with a big-toed woman. You've gotta think of this stuff, some guys don't think about it til later.' On social media, fans quickly jumped on the comments and argued back against what they perceived to be a 'racist' point of view. In fact, one X user claimed: 'That's the most racist thing I've ever heard.' Another added: 'What an idiot. There are literally more white athletes than black athletes. It's like, "son it's okay for me to marry a white woman but you better not".' Others, though, sided with John Brown and claimed he is correct with his beliefs. 'He's saying it in the most inflammatory way possible, but if you hit the genetic jackpot and possess elite athleticism, who you have kids with matters a lot,' one claimed. 'Especially if you want your kids to have a chance at being a top professional athlete.' One more added: 'I'm not gone lie, I think about this sometimes. A child's athletic abilities come from their mother. Gotta choose right.' John Brown has three sons, with Amon-Ra the most accomplished athlete, currently playing for the Detroit Lions. He is a three-time Pro Bowler over the last three seasons. Equanimeous, meanwhile, has played five seasons in the NFL but is currently without a team after being released by the New Orleans Saints at the end of 2024. Osiris, the youngest of the three brothers, played for Stanford at college - and graduated - but decided against pursuing a professional career due to injuries.
