It happened just before 5pm on Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Ramon de Moncada Street and Bartomeu Rossello Planas Street. Initial reports described the dead man only as 'foreign' with no details given out about the driver. Today a spokesman for Calvia Council, the municipality whose local police officers were involved in attempts to save the cyclist's life, said: 'At approximately 4.40 p.m. on 31 July 2025, police were alerted to a traffic accident at the intersection of Ramon de Moncada Street and Bartomeu Rossello Planas Street in the Santa Ponsa residential area involving a car and a bicycle. 'As a result of the accident, the cyclist was lying on the road with serious injuries. 'Within minutes, several police units and 061 emergency medical services arrived at the scene. 'According to witness statements, the officers were able to verify that the car collided head-on when its driver was about to turn onto Ramon de Moncada Street from Bartomeu Rossello Planas Street. 'As a result of the impact, the cyclist suffered serious injuries and went into cardiac arrest. 'Initially, the officers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for more than twenty-five minutes until the arrival of the emergency services, who certified the death of the cyclist. 'Those involved are a 38-year-old Irish driver of a rental vehicle who was on holiday in Santa Ponsa and the cyclist, a 51-year-old German resident. "The police notified the duty court and the duty coroner was dispatched to the scene.' Although local police employed by Calvia Town Hall were involved in the initial emergency response, officers from the Civil Guard force are now understood to be liaising with the investigating court. The police force could not be reached for comment today. It is not known whether the Irish tourist, who has not been named, was travelling alone in the hire car or with other people.

Ineos carer linked with convicted doping doctor worked at Manchester United last year

David Rozman spent a brief period working with the Premier League giants last year, as part of what was described as a 'knowledge exchange' programme within the Ineos Sport group, according to reports in The Guardian and The Times. Rozman, described on the Ineos website as 'one of the longest-serving members of our staff,' is facing questions from the International Testing Agency (ITA) after his links to Dr Mark Schmidt were revealed in detail by Paul Kimmage's Sunday Independent investigation on July 15. This followed an investigative television documentary by German broadcaster ARD that linked a Team Ineos staff member with Dr Schmidt, based on German court documents. Dr Schmidt was sent to prison for almost five years for his part in the blood-doping investigation Operation Aderlass. ARD could not name the Ineos staff member due to legal and privacy laws in Germany, however he was identified as Rozman in the Sunday Independent. Head of Ineos Sport Dave Brailsford returned to a lead role with the cycling team on the eve of this year's Tour de France but refused to comment on the links between Dr Schmidt and the team's head carer who had been working during the race throughout the first week. However, the team announced in a statement last week that Rozman had been sent home from the Tour after being notified that the ITA had launched a new investigation. United have yet to comment but Rozman is reported to have spent a month working with the team's soft tissue therapists as part of an 'exchange' overseen by Brailsford after Jim Ratcliffe, owner of the Ineos cycling team, became part-owner of United. Rozman's involvement with Manchester United pre-dates the revelations that the Ineos carer had links with the German doctor.
