MURDER HORROR Family of tragic Scots dad savagely murdered by 'cold-blooded' best pal say he should never be freed
THE family of a murdered dad have told of their horror at him being killed by a childhood pal who considered himself a 'cousin'.
Relatives of Chris McMahon, 31, found it 'unbelievable' that Stephen Kelly stabbed him in the neck and chest with an 18-inch hunting knife.

Chris's mother Margaret and sister Kirsty say no sentence would ever be long enough
He also hit Chris on the head with a bottle, stamped on him and poured bleach into his mouth during a 'sustained' 20-minute attack.
Chris's devastated mum, Margaret, 69, said: 'Never in a million years did I think Stephen would have done this to Chris.
'He would come to our house all the time. He was always here having his dinner as a wee boy.'
Kelly claimed he killed Chris in the dad-of-two's home in Carluke, Lanarkshire, because he was being 'bullied' by him.
But the dead man's older brother John, 37, said: 'He's a coward. He's hit Chris with a bottle to knock him out, then sat on top of him and stabbed him, then poured the bleach.
'That's not someone who has snapped because they were bullied. He's a cold-blooded killer.'
Sister Kirsty, 41, said: 'There's two little kids here who will never see their daddy again.'
Mum Margaret told how Kelly's mother knocked on her door after the brute called her, topless and covered in blood, to tell her what he had done.
She said: 'She told me, 'You better call for help'.
'After I found out I couldn't believe she hadn't told me what happened. But then, maybe she couldn't say it.'

Kelly, of Carluke, was caged for 22 years at the High Court in Kilmarnock on May 28.
Following the sentence Chris' parents Margaret, 69, and John 76, along with siblings Kirsty, 41 and John, 37, said they were relieved Kelly had been given life.
Kirsty added: "It's been an agonising 19 months for our family, and justice has finally been served. But no sentence would ever be long enough because Chris is never coming back."

Time to step up and fix housing crisis after Swinney handed £9billion funding boost
Scotland's housing emergency is easy to ignore if you're fortunate enough to own your own home or have a secure tenancy with a socially responsible landlord. But everyone's personal circumstances can change dramatically. Finding somewhere new to live has become markedly harder in recent years. Mortgage rates have soared while the private rental market has exploded. Rising numbers of Scots across the country have been forced to declare themselves homeless to their local council because they cannot find affordable accommodation. This increasing demand has in turn led to multiple local authorities declaring housing emergencies. The end result is 10,000 children living with their families in unsuitable temporary accommodation such as B&Bs or hotels. Homelessness charities have repeatedly warned rough sleeping is also on the rise. The UK Government yesterday pledged £39billion would be spent on providing affordable homes over the next decade in England. Housing is a devolved issue so it's now up to SNP ministers in Holyrood to match that level of ambition in Scotland. The Scottish Government will receive more cash over the next three years as a result of Rachel Reeves's spending review. It's up to them to ensure this extra funding is channelled into housebuilding. There must be a joint approach with local authorities – particularly in our biggest cities – to ensure there is a huge push to build more affordable homes. Our housing emergency has gone on long enough. It's time the Scottish Government stepped up and ended it. Knife crime plea Graeme Pearson, ex-director-general of the Scottish Drug and Crime Enforcement Agency, makes a strong argument for upping efforts to steer youngsters away from violence. On the day John Swinney hosts a youth violence summit, Pearson says more must be done to provide alternatives for young people to help steer them away from offending. His call is an echo of the Record's Our Kids ... Our future campaign. But Pearson goes further and warns that many of those youths using knives may be lured into organised crime by the prospect of easy money. That point has been made clear in recent weeks when you consider the ages of those arrested in connection with the gangland feud in Scotland. Most are in their late teens and early 20s. Summits, like the one Swinney hosts today, must make clear the consequences of knife crime but also hammer home there is nothing glamorous about a criminal life.

Margaret Fleming murder house snapped up by buyer after plot slashed in price
Vulnerable Margaret, 19, was kept prisoner at Seacroft, a bungalow on the banks of the River Clyde, in Inverkip, Renfrewshire, before her carers were convicted of her murder. A buyer has snapped up the land where murdered Margaret Fleming's home once stood after it was slashed in price. Vulnerable Margaret, 19, was kept prisoner at Seacroft, a bungalow on the banks of the River Clyde, in Inverkip, Renfrewshire, before her carers were convicted of her murder. The house of horrors, where detectives believe she may have been killed, was bulldozed after being bought up by millionaire developers from England in 2017. Now - after almost a year on the market - the plot is under offer after almost £20,000 was slashed off the £350,000 asking price. Property agents McEwan Fraser Legal previously told the Record they were close to making a sale after the knockdown price prompted a flurry of interest. In March, a spokeswoman said they were anticipating a 'high level of engagement from buyers looking to capitalise on this ready-to-build opportunity'. It's understood the sale is underway but still to be completed. Edward Cairney and Avril Jones were bot h convicted in 2019 of killing Margaret between December 1999 and January 2000, and each sentenced to life in jail with a minimum term of 14 years. Despite searches of Seacroft and its surrounding land, Margaret's remains have never been found. She was left in the evil couple's care after her dad Derek - a friend of the pair - died in 1995. Margaret had learning difficulties and had not been seen for 20 years. Her disappearance only came to light when she had to reapply for disability benefits and officials could not contact her. Police visited the house, sparking a missing person probe. It then emerged no one from social services had been in contact with Margaret for at least 17 years. At Cairney and Jones' trial, it was revealed that Jones had fraudulently claimed £182,000 in benefits after pretending for nearly two decades she was alive. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Jones remains in prison. Coventry haulage firm Slam Transport bought the site for £120,000 and was given the go-ahead for two new homes several years ago. It said that new homes would help remove the 'stigma' attached to the land because of its association with the murder case. The 0.6 acre land at Seacroft, which boasts stunning views over the Clyde, was put on the market in July last year after plans to build a quartet of eco-friendly homes at the were withdrawn. But the site was marketed with planning in place for two, 4000 sqft houses. The property agent said: 'The striking design features modern materials, two levels of light filled accommodation with private parking and private gardens.' McEwan Fraser Legal declined to comment on the pending sale.
