Tanishaa S Mukerji reveals why she stopped working in Tamil cinema
Actress Tanishaa S Mukerji, who had a scintillating debut in Tamil film industry with 'Unnale Unnale', has shared why she stopped working in the Tamil film industry.
Her character of Deepika in the film was appreciated by the audience and the way the actress managed to get all the nuances and emotions of her character right on-screen was something truly worthy of appreciation. However, much to everyone's shock, she stopped doing Tamil films after a dream debut.
Talking about her character, the actress said, 'Well, I am immensely grateful for the love and appreciation I received in 'Unnale Unnale' for playing Deepika. I truly believe the fact that I wouldn't have been able to play her if I wasn't able to identify myself with her. In fact, while playing her character, I had realized that her thought process concerning love was more about acceptance. In love, you really have to accept people for whom they are as you cannot change them. Instead, you can choose to grow with them. That was the idea'.
Sharing the reason behind not working in Tamil cinema, the actress said, 'As far as not being a part of Tamil projects anymore after a dream debut, I would say that part of getting more projects in a particular industry is a lot about networking with the people who make films in that industry. In my case, I wasn't living in Chennai and hence, I wasn't in a position to meet any producer or director. So that connection was lost'.
Earlier, the actress had spoken about how she expresses herself through what she wears and what she performs on-screen. Of late, the actress has been seen donning traditionally-rich ethnic outfits like a striking handwoven silk saree during a recent campaign that celebrated Indian artisans. The actress drew attention not just for her stunning look, but for the sincerity in her words.
Talking about her deep-rooted connection with Indian culture, the actress said, 'Indian culture isn't just something I admire, it lives in me. From the fabrics we wear to the rituals we celebrate; I find deep meaning in our traditions. My fashion choices are often rooted in that identity'.
The actress has always embraced a style that blends modern design with traditional craftsmanship. Her clothing choices consistently reflect a sense of purpose and cultural pride.

‘Bol Shankar Bhagwan Ki Jai': Indian student's Shiva chant at Canadian graduation goes viral
Graduation ceremonies across the United States of America and Canada are in full swing, and Indian students are making sure their celebrations are both personal and memorable. Among the many convocation videos going viral, one clip from Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Canada is capturing widespread attention on the Internet, and sparking conversation online. Rahul Chhillar, an Indian student graduating from the institution, created a moment during his convocation that many will never forget. As he walked on stage to collect his degree, he turned toward the mic and loudly chanted, 'Bol Shankar Bhagwan Ki Jai… Jai Shambhu!' The unexpected chant, an ode to Lord Shiva, took everyone by surprise, especially the faculty on stage. But within seconds, his words echoed back from the audience, with several fellow Indians joining in. A post shared by R A H U L CHHILLAR (@rahulchhillar34) Chhillar shared the video on Instagram on June 21, 2025, and it quickly exploded, racking up over 15.2 million views and 2.6 million likes. Reactions, however, were mixed. Many viewers praised the moment as bold and uplifting, calling it a beautiful expression of faith and identity. One comment said, 'Look how the lady is trying to stop him. She thinks it will embarrass people,' pointing out the reaction of a staff member. Meanwhile, others debated whether a formal academic setting was the right place for such a statement. The comments section lit up with chants of 'Har Har Mahadev' and praises for the student's devotion. For many, it was a moment of pride and joy – a young man honouring his culture at one of the biggest milestones of his life. This isn't the only time an Indian student has gone viral during a graduation this season. Another popular video, from the University of Missouri–Kansas City, featured Dinesh Kyama walking on stage holding up Virat Kohli's No. 18 Test jersey. As his name was called, he proudly raised the jersey to the crowd's cheers before collecting his certificate. The gesture came soon after Kohli had announced his retirement from Test cricket, making the moment emotional for fans.

FWICE urges Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh to withdraw Border 2 filming permission at NDA amid Diljit Dosanjhs Sardaar Ji 3 row
New Delhi [India], June 27 (ANI): The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has requested Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah to immediately withdraw permission granted for the shooting of the film "Border 2' at the National Defence Academy (NDA) premises in Pune amid the ongoing controversy surrounding singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh. The singer-actor is facing a massive backlash for collaborating with a Pakistani artist, Hania Aamir, in his upcoming movie 'Sardaar Ji 3,' against the backdrop of continuing tensions between India and Pakistan. Diljit Dosanjh is currently working on the sequel of 'Border', which also stars Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan in the lead roles. In a letter sent to the Union Ministers on Wednesday, FWICE has urged them to withdraw any permission granted to the makers of Border 2 for shooting at the NDA premises in Pune. The letter read, "We write to you with deep concern regarding the shooting permission reportedly granted to the production team of the film 'Border 2' at the National Defence Academy (NDA) premises in Pune." FWICE has officially boycotted Dosanjh for his collaboration with Pakistani actress Aamir, stating that the singer-actor's association with the Pakistani artists has allegedly "disrespected" the "Indian sentiments," especially following the terror attack at Pahalgam on April 22. "It is important to bring to your notice that the said film (Border 2) features actor Diljit Dosanjh, who has been officially boycotted by FWICE owing to his involvement with individuals and content that have deeply disrespected Indian sentiments, especially by associating with Pakistani artists known for their anti-lndia views, and participating in projects filmed in sensitive border locations like Pahalgam immediately following terror incidents targeting our armed forces," the letter read. Earlier, through a social media post, the makers of Border 2 announced that the film has entered its third schedule at the National Defence Academy in Pune. With this in the background, the film union body has requested Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh to "withdraw" any permission granted to the 'Border 2' makers for filming in its premises. "The NDA, being a national symbol of military training and sacrifice, must not be used as a backdrop for a film involving an actor who is currently under public and professional boycott due to acts that undermine the spirit of national unity and hurt the sentiments of our defence community." The letter further read, "ln this context, we strongly urge your good offices to withdra* qny permission granted for the shooting of the said film at the NDA property in Pune, and to initiate necessary action to ensure that the integrity of sensitive defence installations is not compromised or associated with individuals facing legitimate public outrage." FWICE has also issued a "noon-cooperative directive" to singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh after his collaboration with Hania Aamir in 'Sardaar Ji 3'. The film union body has demanded an unconditional apology from the actor for allegedly hurting the "national sentiments" and disregarding the "sacrifices" of the Indian soldiers by his actions. "As an Indian, your first responsibility is towards your country. You have failed in that regard, and your professional choices have made it abundantly clear that the nation's interest is not your priority. In view of this gross violation and your continued disregard of national directives and sentiments, FWICE hereby issues a Non-Cooperation Directive against you with immediate effect. All associations affiliated with FWICE and their members are instructed not to cooperate with you on any current or future projects until such time as you publicly disassociate from the said collaboration and issue an unconditional apology to the Indian film fraternity and the citizens of India," read the letter. After the massive backlash from the film fraternity, FWICE and social media, the makers of Sardaar Ji 3 have announced that they will not release their movie in India. Meanwhile, Border 2 is the upcoming sequel to the 1997 blockbuster 'Border' and has a powerhouse production team, including Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. The film, directed by Anurag Singh. (ANI)
