We just want to win — Springboks' Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu
Rising Springboks star Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu says he doesn't have any big personal goals for the rest of the international season, except to help the reigning world champions win as many games as possible which in turn will lead to the side winning more trophies.
The Boks are next in action in the Rugby Championship which kicks off this coming weekend, with Rassie Erasmus' side up against the Wallabies in the first of two Tests in Joburg on Saturday.
They also face the Australians the following week in Cape Town, before turning their attention to the two away Tests against the All Blacks. They complete their campaign with home and away Tests against Argentina.
The Boks have so far this year beaten the invitational Barbarians, Italy in two Tests and Georgia.
Winning start
Flyhalf Feinberg-Mngomezulu, who was speaking at a Powerade sponsorship event on Friday, said the Boks' focus was on continuing their winning start to the 2025 season. He added there was a lot of confidence in the team after their recent two-week training camp in Joburg.
'The team, we just want to win as many games as possible. The more games we win the better chance we have of winning trophies. So, the Springboks just want to win as many games as possible this year,' said Feinberg-Mngomezulu.
'The camp was eye-opening and kind of set us straight about what we want to achieve in the Rugby Championship. We have worked so hard and it just shows how motivated the coaching staff are to see us do big things, and we just want to reciprocate that energy back to them.
'It has become an enjoyable process (preparing for big competitions). Last year we tasted Rugby Championship (success), what that felt like, and that taste is still lingering. We want to taste that (success) again and pre seasons like this are the way to get that.'
Eden Park
Arguably, the Boks' biggest game of the year will be their massive encounter against their fiercest rivals, the All Blacks, at their fortress Eden Park, where the South Africans have not won since 1937, but the teams did draw there in 1994.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu is excited about the opportunity to possibly play in that match, and admits that the players will be prepared for the high-pressure encounter, due to the environment they live and train in.
'I think every little stepping stone to moments like that are crucial. Whether it be a (massive) game at Eden Park, a Rugby Championship decider or a World Cup game. The high-pressure environment helps to mold you to cope with those moments,' explained the No 10.
But first up this weekend is Australia and the Boks will be desperate to get their Rugby Championship campaign off to a flying start. Erasmus will name his matchday-23 on Monday.

Rassie full of praise for Joe Schmidt, talks up Wallabies' chances in Rugby Championship
'Everyone is talking about the belief he brought back. The fight for the jersey is back. We have a lot of respect for that and also the squad he is building.' Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus said the Wallabies will be out to honour their coach, Joe Schmidt, with an emphatic display in the Rugby Championship, adding that it is in their hands to win it all. Erasmus expressed his own admiration for the outgoing coach, having worked with Schmidt during his time in Ireland. Rassie: Wallabies are clicking The Wallabies take on the Springboks in their first two Rugby Championship matches, first in Johannesburg this Saturday and then in Cape Town the following weekend. Australia have not won at Ellis Park since 2009 but they are coming from an encouraging performance in their home series against the British & Irish Lions. They lost the series 2–1 but only due to a controversial refereeing decision in the dying minutes of the second game. The Wallabies won the final match emphatically, 22–12, and have spoken about carrying that momentum into the Rugby Championship. Erasmus, who in a friendly wager with his fellow coaches thought the Wallabies would win the second Lions Test, was again full of praise for their resurgence in world rugby, after they came last in the last two Rugby Championships and failed to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in 2023. 'We are under no illusions that the moment you start clicking, start understanding each other and the real belief is there – it is not plastic belief – people don't just talk it up but they play it up,' Erasmus said, after naming his squad for the first match. 'I think they are currently playing it up on the field. So I think this Rugby Championship is very open to all four teams.' Still, the Springbok coach said it was hard to know the level an opposition team was at physically and mentally until they actually played them. Springbok coach lauds work done by Schmidt Erasmus applauded the work done by Schmidt, who will be replaced by Les Kiss next season. He said that while coaching Munster from 2017 to 2019, he actually reported to Joe Schmidt, who was coaching Ireland at the time, because of the organisational structure in Irish rugby. 'Joe is a great coach. He is a very particular guy, a very detail-driven guy. He certainly knows what he wants.' Springboks, Dricus: What time to watch these stars in action?
The Springboks are back in action this Saturday as they tackle Australia in their Rugby Championship opener, but many sports fans will also be just as interested in Dricus du Plessis' UFC title defence. Du Plessis (23-2) has in fact not lost since October 2018, and will attempt to knock Khamzat Chimaev from the ranks of the unbeaten as he returns to the Octagon in what will be his third fight in defence of his UFC middleweight belt. Due to the time difference, the main card is scheduled to start from 04:00 (SA time) this Sunday morning, but the exact time will also be determined by the length of the preliminary fights prior to the Du Plessis-Chimaev bout. For those wanting to get up early for this fight, it does mean they might need to take it a little easy during the braais and 'watch parties' that will undoubtedly be taking place around South Africa for the Springboks-Wallabies clash. That Rugby Championship encounter will kick off at 17:10 at Ellis Park, while it also can't be forgotten that this will be followed later in the night by the battle between the All Blacks and Argentina in Córdoba (23:10 kick off time in SA).
