Man Utd face three-way transfer battle to re-sign player they released
Manchester United are weighing up a move for Vanja Milinkovic-Savic as they consider their goalkeeping options. Andre Onana has not inspired and while he's expected to stay is set to have a new back up next season - but Manchester City and Chelsea are also in the running.
The Torino goalkeeper has kept 11 clean sheets for the mid-table Serie A outfit and has caught the eye of some of the Premier League 's major sides, reports Tutto Mercato. The goalkeeper's contract with Torino runs until 2026 and it includes a release clause worth €20million (£16.9m).
United once had Milinkovic-Savic on their books but were unable to sort a work permit out and had to release him as a result. In May 2014, United reached an agreement to sign the goalkeeper from Vojvodina, setting them back just shy of £2million. He remained there on loan for another season but never actually made an appearance for the Red Devils.
Having failed to earn a work permit to play in England Milinkovic-Savic was released in November 2015 and he signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Polish club Lechia Gdansk, before later moving to Italy.
The Serbian has said on his own future: 'I have learned that setting goals is not a positive thing, it is better to do things with the lights off. Then in all teams there are replacements of players who are sold and bought, the important thing is to find the right players to strengthen the team.'
Torino's president Urbano Cairo has spoken out and confirmed that no bid has yet been lodged: 'He had a great championship and it is normal that he receives a lot of attention, but no offer has arrived yet.'
Onana was signed two years ago by Erik ten Hag as David de Gea's replacement - after the club allowed him to leave at the end of his contract. The Cameroon shotstopper's ability with his feet was seen as a huge bonus, but he's made numerous mistakes that have led to goals in both his seasons in Manchester.
Question marks hang over him in what is a massive summer for Ruben Amorim, who will need to be ruthless if his stint at Old Trafford is a success. The goalkeeper was recently dropped by his coach, but was quickly re-installed as the club's No 1 after less than a week.
Altay Bayindir is expected to depart as he eyes more minutes to further his Turkey ambitions and a return to his homeland is on the cards. Tom Heaton - the club's third choice - has his contract expiring at the end of the season with no decision made on his future but there is an expectation that the veteran stopper could retire.

Spurs and Palace yet to reach Eberechi Eze agreement
Tottenham are yet to reach an agreement with Crystal Palace over the signing of Eberechi Eze but talks are ongoing as a conclusion nears, the PA news agency understands. Spurs entered negotiations with their Premier League rivals last Monday over the potential addition of Eze, who has been a long-term target. Advertisement New Tottenham boss Thomas Frank is in desperate need of creative reinforcements and even though Eze featured in Palace's 0-0 draw at Chelsea on Sunday, PA understands positive dialogue continues between both clubs with an expectation that a deal can be reached. Working. — Crystal Palace F.C. (@CPFC) August 17, 2025 Eze was recommended to Spurs during his time at QPR by old scout David Pleat, but subsequently signed for Palace in 2020 and has since developed into one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League. After Tottenham failed in their efforts to sign Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White last month, Frank turned his focus to Eze, especially after James Maddison suffered a serious knee injury to join Dejan Kulusevski on the sidelines. A release clause in the region of £68million in Eze's current deal at Palace expired on Friday and, despite further talks on Saturday, a day later the England international played 84 minutes in the club's league opener with Chelsea. Advertisement Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze applauds the fans (John Walton/PA) Palace boss Oliver Glasner afterwards expressed his desire to play Eze in Thursday's Conference League qualifier with Frederikstad, but may not get his wish. While reports on Tuesday that an agreement between Spurs and Palace had been reached were slightly premature, negotiations appear to be heading towards a conclusion that would result in Eze moving across London. It would end Eze's five-year stay at Selhurst Park where the 27-year-old has scored 40 times across 169 appearances for Palace, including the winner in their 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final in May.

Unlikely hero of opening weekend might strike gold again in Gameweek 2
WHO would have predicted that Dan Ballard (£2m) would sit atop the Dream Team rankings after Gameweek 1? The Sunderland centre-back banked 18 points on the opening weekend of the season to outperform every other Premier League player. Ballard scored the second goal in his side's 3-0 victory over West Ham on Saturday as the Black Cats marked their return to the top flight in fine style at the Stadium of Light. The 25-year-old produced a pinpoint header from the penalty spot to double Sunderland's lead in the 73rd minute. And that decisive contribution was just one facet of a superb all-round performance. Ballard registered the most clearances, shots and duels won in the game, not to mention an outstanding goal-saving block when the score was 0-0. BALLARD BRILLIANCE IN GAMEWEEK 1 Goal +6pts Clean sheet +5pts Bonus points +3pts 2 shots on target +2pts 90 minutes played +2pts 4 Just a handful of Dream Team managers benefited from this substantial haul but Ballard's popularity has risen sharply since the weekend. Having appeared in less than 1% of teams at the Gameweek 1 deadline, his ownership now stands at 8.8%. Amazingly, he's now the ninth-most selected defender in the game. On the surface, this may seem like a classic case of chasing lost points, a rash overreaction to the opening weekend's action. However, there is method to this madness. 4 Gaffers should endeavour to build their overall budget during the first few months of the campaign by recruiting players just before they increase in value. Remember, player prices are determined by performances in relation to their current price. Given Ballard was the joint-cheapest player in the game when he racked up his 18-point return, his price will certainly increase come the Gameweek 2 deadline. If Sunderland were due to face Liverpool, Arsenal or Manchester City this coming weekend then Dream Team bosses would not be so keen on the Northern Ireland international. But as it happens, Regis Le Bris's side have a favourable match-up against Burnley. All things considered, Ballard has a reasonable chance of bagging another clean sheet against the Clarets. Gameweek 2 also brings a Carabao Cup game against Huddersfield for Sunderland. Rotation is to be expected in the early rounds of the cup competitions so Ballard may not feature against the League One side but it's a potential bonus opportunity on top of his favourable trip to Turf Moor. This popular transfer works from both a financial and fixture perspective. Sunderland's fixtures appear more challenging after the first international break but Ballard may have served his purpose by then.
