'I gave my dog an unusual name and everyone gives me weird looks in the park'

While Luna and Baileys are common names for canine companions at the
dog
park, one woman's
golden retriever
has been turning heads with its unique name that stands out from the pack. Posting on Reddit, the owner expressed her intent behind the name selection.
She said: "She's my first dog as an adult, and I put so much thought into naming her, wanted something elegant, unique but not ridiculous, a little literary but still cute." She detailed her choice of naming her dog Ellowyn, which conjures images of "forests, old poetry and a fairy-tale".
Speaking about the unconventional pet name of Ellowyn, she added: "[It's] not made up, not trendy-trendy, just... whimsical."
However, this unique name has led to quite the reaction when called out in public, with some even asking her to change the moniker for the sake of her pet.
Describing reactions from those closest to her, she recounted: "Here's some of the feedback I've gotten from people I thought would be supportive. My roommate, 'Oh. That's... a name. Are you gonna call her Ellie or something normal?'"
"A pal from uni days queried, 'Is that, like, Elowen? But spelled wrong? Or... Tolkien?' Her brother's reaction was to shoot over a meme about modern pet-naming tropes: 'My brother sends me a meme about white girls naming their pets like Renaissance babies.'".
Even her mum chimed in with practical concerns, with the Redditor adding: "My mum, 'Are you sure that's not going to confuse people at the vet?' She's a dog. Not enrolling in kindergarten!'".
Despite offbeat responses, the fact remains that Ellowyn is responding well to her name and embodies its whimsical nature. The dog lover added: "For what it's worth, Ellowyn responds to it already, and it suits her perfectly.
"She's calm and a little goofy and loves pinecones. Anyway, lesson learned: maybe I won't announce the name next time until it's on the dog tag and too late to argue."
Thankfully, people in the comments section reassured the dog owner there was nothing wrong with her pet's name. One said: "I think if it were a child it would be [bad], but pets kind of have different rules. They don't need to know how to spell their name and they won't know if anyone makes fun of them. The only person who will have to correct people on spelling is you!
"I mean, my cat is called Inspector Clawseau. And the dog is Bruce Springersteen. And many pet rats with silly pun names. If it make you happy then who cares?".
Another user chimed in: "It's a dog. Name as you please, but from years of experience with dogs it's not a name that rolls off the tongue when trying to train them or call their name from danger.
"That can be the official name but I suspect that Ellie will get a better response from the dog."
Meanwhile, a third user shared: "My dog was named Elphaba three years ago, way before the movie came out and only theater nerds knew who she was.
"I caught so much cr*p from family and friends who were convinced the dog would never learn her name. She got the last laugh though. Elphie answers to Elphaba, and every nickname you could make from it, and the whole family still said it wrong until the movie was popular (insert eye roll here, you're welcome)."

Things you didn't know about Baileys

The name Baileys isn't Irish either According to the Irish Times , Gluckman and Seymour-Davies borrowed the name from Baileys Bistro, a restaurant located beneath their new office in SoHo, London. It just sounded right. Baileys comes in more flavours than you'd expect Above From Dublin to the world: Baileys has won hearts with its variety of flavour twists (photo: Getty Images / Monica Schipper) Beyond the original Irish Cream, the brand has expanded its repertoire to include indulgent favourites like Salted Caramel, Espresso Crème, Chocolate Cherry and Vanilla Cinnamon. Seasonal specials such as Pumpkin Spice keep things fresh, while the vegan-friendly Baileys Almande—made with almond milk—offers a plant-based option. Limited-edition releases such as Strawberries & Cream, Chocolat Luxe and Dulce de Leche (the latter exclusive to Mexico) prove Baileys isn't afraid to experiment. Pure ingredients, proudly sourced Each year, Baileys uses more than 250 million litres of fresh milk sourced directly from Ireland. According to a 2015 report by the Irish government's Merrion Street agency, this milk is collected from over 40,000 cows across 1,500 carefully selected farms. It is then transported to the Baileys facility in Dublin, where it becomes the cream used in the liqueur—a product with a shelf life of up to two years. Above Baileys has come to symbolise indulgence and ease (photo: Instagram / @baileysofficial) At least five men have laid claim to its creation The names most often associated with Baileys' beginnings include David Gluckman, David Dand, Mac Macpherson, Steve Wilson and Tom Jago. Among them, Jago is widely regarded as the most credible source. A pioneer in spirits innovation, he also helped create Johnnie Walker Blue Label and Malibu, and later co-founded The Last Drop Distillers with James Espey. According to Jago, Gluckman and Seymour-Davies were copywriters, Macpherson served as the chemist, Wilson assisted him, and Dand oversaw the project. Together, they experimented with a mix of whiskey, cream, sugar and chocolate, along with a name that would eventually become world-famous. A favourite among women Above Versatile and stylish, Baileys pairs beautifully with a wide range of treats (photo: Instagram / @baileysofficial) With an approachable alcohol content of around 17% and a soft, sweet profile, Baileys holds strong appeal, particularly among women. In 2014, Diageo launched a female-focused campaign titled 'This is for Us,' conceived by an all-female creative team at BBH London. According to Irish Central, the campaign was crafted specifically for the Millennial woman. It isn't just for after dinner In 2019, Baileys debuted a line of coffee creamers (think cold brews in flavours such as Caramel and Irish Coffee) aimed at brightening up your morning ritual. The brand has also ventured into desserts, releasing products like yoghurt and chocolate biscuits for fans wanting a little extra indulgence.

Travis Kelce seemingly unfollows Ryan Reynolds amid Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni legal battle

Travis Kelce has apparently stopped following Ryan Reynolds on social media, despite what seemed like a previous friendship . Devoted Taylor Swift fans on Reddit initially spotted the unfollowing on Sunday, April 27, prompting various outlets to report on it. Although the reason behind the supposed unfollowing remains unclear, Page Six speculates that it might be connected to the Kansas City Chiefs tight end's attempt to distance himself from the ongoing legal dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. However, some fans hit back, realizing that social media doesn't necessarily equate to real life friendships. After all, Taylor and Travis don't even follow each other. Taylor has avoided following anyone at all for years. Travis' decision to unfollow comes after a source revealed to PEOPLE, in an article published on April 24, that Taylor "was really hurt" by her involvement in the ongoing legal battle. The Cruel Summer singer was mentioned in Justin's countersuit, which claimed she participated in supporting Blake's script rewrites during a rooftop meeting, allegedly using her husband and "megacelebrity friend" to pressure him into liking the rewrites, reports the Mirror US . "Blake knew she and Taylor would come back from this at some point and that their friendship wasn't done for good," a source spilled to the media outlet. "Taylor was really hurt by this situation, so she's relieved they were able to recover from this and put it all behind them because it wasn't something she took lightly," the insider continued. Taylor has kept mum on the legal drama thus far. Outlander Frank Randall's secret time travel preparation for daughter Brianna exposed

Outlander's Frank Randall, portrayed by Tobias Menzies, had a complicated relationship with his wife Claire Fraser, played by Caitríona Balfe, especially after she returned from the past pregnant with the child of 18th-century Highlander Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan), whom she had fallen in love with, reports the Express . However, Frank's love and devotion to his daughter Brianna MacKenzie, played by Sophie Skelton, were unwavering. Despite struggling to come to terms with Claire's incredible tale of time travel and Jamie Fraser, Frank seemed to secretly believe her story and even researched the Scot in historical records. It appears that Frank had a hunch that Claire and Brianna would eventually travel back in time to be with Jamie. As a result, he prepared Brianna from a young age for the possibility that she might go in search of her biological father. Fans took to Reddit to speculate about what Frank really knew about Jamie, time travel, and how he equipped Brianna with the necessary skills in case she went through the stones. One user posted on the forum: "He knew Claire and probably Bree would go back when Bree was young, because he started "training" from her from an early age." Frank always suspected Claire and Brianna would go to the past (Image: STARZ) The fan continued: "I'm sure she mentioned when she started horseback riding, handling a knife or gun, or fishing (one of the skills) and a rough age but I can't recall the book or the scene." The user stated: "He had a great interest in Jamie, Fraser's Ridge, and the revolution early enough to have researched, written, edited, and published a book before he died." Further, they expressed their belief that Frank's military intelligence background significantly contributed to his knowledge: "I still believe Frank's background in military intelligence played a role in his research." Brianna was equipped with the skills to survive in the past in Outlander (Image: STARZ) Another person voiced similar thoughts, suggesting deep military intel roots: "Yes, it definitely feels like he knew A LOT more than we know right now because of his background in the military intelligence, maybe even about time travellers." They speculated on Frank's belief in Claire's time-traveling tales: "Maybe he believed Claire's story because of her 18th century outfit or he knew more before then because of his connections with Roger's father for example." Raising questions about Frank's possible insights, they asked: "My question is, could've he known other time travellers too (and also about their abilities) or could've he had someone on the "inside" (like someone who could travel in the same time period as Claire and Bree)?" Frank Randall may have known more about time travel than he let on (Image: STARZ) A third commenter revealed a sense of oversight regarding Frank's intentions: "I also feel like a complete moron 20 years into this not realizing or thinking about Frank at all actively training Bree to be in the past though it is all so obvious now after reading here [sic]." And they elaborated on Frank's foresight: "Frank knew Claire would return to past while Bree was still a little girl. "I believe he corresponded with the Reverend frequently, and the Reverend kept tabs. "I believe he knew Jaime was alive the whole time, and didn't tell her out of fear he could be the catalyst that would set events in motion of Claire going back and taking Brianna. One thing we know for sure, he knew they BOTH went back [sic]." It seems Frank had knowledge all along that his daughter would traverse through time and took steps to prepare her for it. Frank Randall trained Brianna from an early age for the past (Image: STARZ) Frank's teachings to Brianna highlighted her adeptness, especially when contrasted with her husband Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin), who found himself at odds with his lack of practical skills in the past. For Roger, adapting to the past was a harsh lesson for the historian, marked by some particularly tough and brutal experiences, including an accidental attack by Jamie who mistook him for Brianna's assailant. Moreover, Roger endured an accidental hanging but miraculously survived, although the experience left deep scars. Over time, Roger found his footing in the historical setting, finding solace and purpose within the church as he settled into life with his family.
