Even though AI can solve world-class math problems, it still struggles with high school-level equations. That's the paradox that Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis claims is preventing AI from becoming fully AGI. The culprit is apparently an unexpected lack of consistency. Demis Hassabis believes that the most significant barrier to full AGI is AI's inconsistency in reasoning and problem-solving. Fixing the flaw will necessitate advances in reasoning, planning, and memory, not just more data or computing power. Demis Hassabis stated that "some missing capabilities in reasoning and planning in memory" need to be fixed. Hassabis stated in a Tuesday episode of the "Google for Developers" podcast that even sophisticated models such as Google's Gemini still make mistakes on problems that most schoolchildren could figure out, as quoted in a report by Business Insider. He cited Gemini models that have been improved with DeepThink, a method that improves reasoning, and that have the potential to take home gold at the International Mathematical Olympiad, the most prominent math competition in the world. The same systems, he claimed, can "still make simple mistakes in high school maths," and he referred to them as "uneven intelligences" or "jagged intelligences,' as quoted in a report by Business Insider."Some dimensions, they're really good; other dimensions, their weaknesses can be exposed quite easily," he stated. It's not just about getting more data and computing power to get to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), which is the point at which AI can think and reason like a person in all areas. AI's weaknesses can make its strengths less useful if they aren't consistent. For example, an AI that can solve graduate-level physics problems but not basic algebra is not really intelligent in the same way that people are. Google CEO Sundar Pichai came up with the term "AJI", Artificial Jagged Intelligence, to describe the current state of the technology because it isn't balanced, as quoted in a report by Business Insider. Hassabis says the industry needs "new, harder benchmarks" to thoroughly test AI's strengths and weaknesses and make sure it works well on all kinds of Hassabis is still hopeful, though, and thinks that AGI could be here in five to ten years. He does, however, stress that Big Tech still hasn't figured it out. Before the launch of GPT-5, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said something similar. He said that GPT-5 is a big step forward, but it is not yet true AGI. Altman said that one major gap is that AI can't keep learning on its own from new information it comes across in real time. The EB-5 visa program requires a minimum capital of $1,050,000, whereas the Targeted Employment Area needs a minimum of $8,000,000. Investors that make the required investment in a US-based business and create or maintain ten permanent full-time jobs for eligible US workers are allowed to apply for lawful permanent residence and get a Green Card under the EB-5 visa program. All about EB-5 visa requirement The EB-5 visa program requires a minimum capital of $1,050,000, whereas the Targeted Employment Area needs a minimum of $8,000,000. A federal court issued an order in a lawsuit concerning the 'sustainment period' for money invested through the EB-5 visa program. The disputed topic was about the timeframe under which EB-5 investors can withdraw their investments and still qualify for a US green card. OpenAI recently unveiled GPT-5, describing it as its most capable AI model yet. In an interview with Big Technology, OpenAI's COO Brad Lightcap has now claimed that this version is four to five times more accurate than its earlier versions. He says the upgrade will be more noticeable for some users than others, largely because of how the model now works behind the think now with GPT-5 and obviously with future models, we have seen consistently the rates of accuracy and the rates of hallucination go up and down respectively. GPT-5 depends on how you measure it, but it's four to five times more accurate than its predecessors," he explained that GPT-5 changes the way people interact with ChatGPT. In practice, this means the model might take extra time to "think" through a complex query, while keeping simpler answers fast. Lightcap described this as more than a convenience upgrade. By dynamically adjusting its reasoning process, GPT-5 can deliver better responses across different types of questions, whether it is writing, coding, or tackling a health-related topic. The model's improvements are not limited to speed and reasoning. He asserted that the model has also been trained with a particular emphasis on medical reasoning and health-related queries. It is being said that this is in response to a growing number of people using AI tools to understand health conditions or manage ongoing company is clear, however, that GPT-5 is not meant to replace doctors. Instead, it is designed to give people more awareness and context, such as explaining a medical condition, its common symptoms, and possible care options. Many of them have only experienced the more basic GPT-4.0, which works like a fast, search-style assistant. With GPT-5, these users will see, for the first time, a model that can decide when to take extra time to deliver a more thoughtful answer. For long-time Plus subscribers and advanced users, who have already had access to reasoning models like GPT-4.1 and OpenAI's 'o-series,' the improvement will still be noticeable, though perhaps less its advances, GPT-5 is not being called artificial general intelligence (AGI). Lightcap said the technology shows early signs of AGI-like abilities, such as multi-step reasoning and better tool usage, but is still part of a gradual evolution rather than a clear-cut breakthrough. - Ends
