Nickson Okosun on target as Watford Under-21s frustrated by Fleetwood in opener
The Hornets trailed to a Lucas Taylor strike just after the break but Okosun tapped home a leveller on the hour mark to ensure the shares were spoiled.
Okosun had already come close early on, Amin Nabizada teeing him up but his effort was blocked.
The striker was then denied an opener by the offside flag as Watford dominated the opening 45 minutes.

It was the visitors, led by former Hornet Mark Yeates, who took the lead in the second half, though, when Taylor finished off a Raffaele Cirino cross.
Okosun levelled shortly afterwards, following in after goalkeeper Luke Hewitson couldn't hold Nabizada's shot.

Under-21s lead coach Charlie Daniels said: "I was pleased with the way we played and how we created.

"I thought we thoroughly deserved a couple more but the goalie played well.
"Then it was just one lapse of concentration when we conceded.
"It was pleasing for us with the way that we played and our application, we're just disappointed to not come away with the win."

Match report: Watford 2-1 Queens Park Rangers
Luca Kjerrumgaard's brace was enough to earn Watford a 2-1 win, their first of the season, against QPR Vicarage Road. Having sprung a surprise by leaving out Kwadwo Baah and selecting a 3-5-2 shape, Paulo Pezzolano's side were on the front foot from the off and did the damage in the first half. Kjerrumgaard concerted the excellent Nestory Irankunda's cross to open the scoring on 20 minutes before adding another three minutes later from Imran Louza's delivery. Kieran Morgan pulled a goal back before the break, causing a few second-half jitters, particularly when Imran Louza was sent off in added time. After defending one final corner, though, the hosts held on to collect three points. Watford started the game quickly, Kjerrumgaard heading over and Kayembe forcing a save from 20 yards within five minutes of kick off. The system was causing QPR lots of problems, with Irankunda enjoying the freedom of a central role as Watford created space all over the pitch. The Australian did brilliantly to win a header and tee up Edo Kayembe for a long-range shot that swerved wide but it wasn't long until he produced his first assist for the club. Kayembe clipped the ball into space down the left channel and Irankunda was onto it, racing away from the QPR defence and squaring for Kjerrumgaard to tap home on 20 minutes. Three minutes later, it was two. Irankunda drove Watford up the pitch again and the ball was eventually worked to Louza on the right side of the area, the Moroccan picking out Kjerrumgaard at the back post to head in his second. Imran Louza on the ball (Image: Alan Cozzi/Watford FC) Marc Bola cleared a Sam Field header off the line at the other end but Pezzolano's side continued to enjoy themselves, Louza leading a 4-v-2 break before misplacing his pass and Ngakia firing over from close range after being found by Kayembe. Just as they looked set to be able to pat themselves on the backs after solid first half, however, Morgan crashed in a fine strike from the edge of the box to make things nervy. The second half did not generate the same momentum, with QPR fractionally on top as the game went scrappy. Sam Field headed wide and Rayan Kolli mishit a volley for the visitors, while Pezzolano brought Baah off the bench on 55 minutes. The introduction of Richard Kone as a substitute brought more life to the visitors and the striker soon had a header cleared off the line by Bola. At the other end, Baah went close with two 83rd-minute shots as the Hornets closed in on a first win of the season. QPR continued to push and Louza was sent off in added time as a high boot was punished. The Hornets held on without him, though, to scenes of celebration at Vicarage Road. Watford: Selvik; Abankwah, Keben, Kyprianou; Ngakia, Sissoko, Louza, Kayembe, Bola (Andrews, 74); Kjerrumgaard (Doumbia, 74), Irankunda (Baah, 55) Unused subs: Baxter, Alleyne, Dele-Bashiru, Ince, Vata, Semedo

Watford talisman Kwadwo Baah can get the Hornets' campaign going against QPR
The roar from the away end at The Valley whenever Kwadwo Baah received possession in space spoke volumes. Watford supporters direct much of their optimistic energy towards Baah, a player barely on the radar 12 months ago and now approaching talisman status. The 22-year-old only played 35% of available minutes last season but the Hornets' most fruitful spells aligned with when he was at his best. But it was actually Baah's decisive influence on games that were not going Watford's way that highlighted his impact. The explosive winger won a late penalty at home to Sunderland, bagged the winner against Middlesbrough and brilliantly assisted equalisers at Hull and Cardiff to earn his team points that would not have materialised without him. More: Predicting Watford's starting line-up to play QPR on Saturday That ability to bend the game to his will is what Paulo Pezzolano could really do with a dollop of against QPR on Saturday, as he looks for the victory that can kickstart his reign at Vicarage Road. The head coach repeatedly makes clear that his team needs time and patience to show the best version of themselves over the course of the season. But while any major concern after just two losses – one of which was a narrow defeat from a promising display, the other set in motion by a very poor 45 minutes from what was largely a second string – is premature, it is clear the Uruguayan could do with a positive day to get the 2025/26 wheels turning. With his ability to turn water into wine, Baah can be the game-changer required. Baah was ultimately very well defended at Charlton – though still posed a threat, and perhaps should have set up the opener when he had Mamadou Doumbia waiting for a simple tap-in but pulled the ball back to Luca Kjerrumgaard instead. Against Norwich City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, however, the electricity sorely lacking from Watford's performance was provided as soon as he was introduced in the 61st minute. Kwadwo Baah in training (Image: Alan Cozzi/Watford FC) Fewer than 10 minutes after coming on he had outstripped his full-back and scored, before continuing to provide the most likely route to an equaliser. Pezzolano said after the game: "He is a very explosive player. "We know his quality and that depending on the opposition we can position him on either side." That is a reference to Baah's cameo coming from the left flank, a position the winger told The Watford Observer he felt was his best earlier this summer because it increases his goal threat. Baah combines pace, strength and a fine control of the ball to terrorise full-backs on either wing. While he is a remarkably direct player, it is notable how rarely he runs the ball out of play, always seeming to win a corner at worst. His prowess is such that the Hornets would surely have gone close to securing a top-six finish had they had him in the side from January onwards last term, an absence that remains relevant to this season. Baah suffered a substantial tear to his thigh against Preston at the beginning of the year and sustained a recurrence on his starting comeback at Bristol City in April, a situation that needs managing as he builds his workload and because specifically his style may exacerbate it. Kwadwo Baah during his excellent 2024/25 season (Image: PA) He was withdrawn after an hour last week and Pezzolano was keen to stress on Tuesday that his side are not over-reliant on the forward. He said: "All teams have players that can make a difference. "We feel that KB [Baah] can be one of those players for us, but also Nestory [Irankunda] and [Giorgi] Chakvetadze, when he is available. "Then we have Luca [Kjerrumgaard], Vivaldo {Semedo]. We also have players down the middle like [Moussa] Sissoko and [Edo] Kayembe. Even the full-backs." If the Hornets are to put their first points of the season on the board on Saturday, though, it is clear who is most likely to do the damage.

Robert MacIntyre runs off 6 birdies in a row for 62 to lead BMW Championship
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — Robert MacIntyre seized on a softer Caves Valley after a two-hour storm delay and rode the best putting round of his year with six straight birdies to post an 8-under 62 for a three-shot lead over Tommy Fleetwood in the BMW Championship on Thursday. MacIntyre finished it off with a 5-foot birdie putt on 18th hole, and that was the easiest of his final six birdies. He holed a 65-foot birdie putt on the 12th and followed that from 40 feet. And he kept right on going until he matched his low round on the PGA Tour and left everyone chasing after the opening round of the penultimate postseason event. 'The last six holes is probably as good as I've ever putted in a stretch of holes,' he said. Scottie Scheffler was tied for the lead when he returned from the delay and birdied three of his final four holes for a 66. Rickie Fowler was another shot behind, a big step toward making the Tour Championship for a shot at the FedEx Cup. MacIntyre looked to be unstoppable except that he ran out of holes. 'When I went back out, I had a 7-footer for birdie which was going to set the tone for the rest of the afternoon, and I rolled that in nicely,' said MacIntyre, who then rolled along quite nicely. It was a different course when the top 50 in the FedEx Cup arrived to Caves Valley, which hosted the BMW Championship in 2021. Patrick Cantlay won in a playoff over Bryson DeChambeau after both finished at 27-under 261. It has gone through a big renovation, changed to a par 70, and it was playing tough enough that Viktor Hovland at 67 had the low score of the morning before a bank of dark clouds and heavy rain pounded the course. Softer greens made all the difference, but the 62 by MacIntyre was no less impressive. The Scot also shot 62 at the Travelers Championship last year. 'The course was a lot softer, so we did have a chance of shooting a score,' Fleetwood said, who was on the 16th hole when MacIntyre finished. 'Did he finish with quite a few birdies maybe?' Six of them. 'That helps,' Fleetwood said with a smile. It was a nice start for Fleetwood, too, particularly after another tough ending last week when he had a two-shot lead with three holes to play and finished one shot out of a playoff at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in his bid for his first PGA Tour title. The goal was to get back into contention as quickly as possible. This was only one round, but it was a good start. Fleetwood had one of only two bogey-free rounds, the other belonging to Hideki Matsuyama (69). 'I've been a pro for — I don't know how long, I'm not going to do the math — but I've had my fair share of playing rubbish,' Fleetwood said. 'I've spent weeks playing terrible. So playing well and being in contention is a privilege. You've got to enjoy those times. So while I'm playing well, I'm kind of enjoying it as well.' Scheffler played with Rory McIlroy as the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds in the FedEx Cup, which means nothing at this stage because every one of the 30 players who advance to East Lake will start from scratch as they play for the FedEx Cup. McIlroy struggled off the tee, had three bogeys in six holes and pulled it together for a 70 that included eight straight pars at the end. Scheffler wobbled a bit at the turn, twice missing greens and failing to get up-and-down. But he had three birdies in four holes at the start, and three birdies in four holes at the end. 'Golf course definitely got a bit easier but did a good job of taking advantage of the holes I had left,' said Scheffler, who posted his 14th consecutive round in the 60s. Hovland came into the BMW Championship at No. 28 in the FedEx Cup, right on the bubble for being in the top 30 to reach the Tour Championship. He figures good will take care of that. It was a more significant start for Fowler, who barely got into the top 50. Ditto for Michael Kim and Jason Day, both outside the top 40. They each shot 68. Xander Schauffele, who has never missed the Tour Championship since he won it as a rookie in 2017, might see that streak end. He was at No. 43 and is searching, and it showed. He opened with four bogeys in six holes, battled back and closed with a double bogey for a 74. ___
