Boeing Engineers Turn Startup Arc Into Marine Powerhouse With New $168K Electric Boat That Outpaces Gas Competitors

Yahooa day ago

Arc, a California-based startup founded in 2021 by former Boeing (NYSE:BA) engineers Mitch Lee and Ryan Cook, announced on May 15 its third all-electric boat model, the Arc Coast, priced at $168,000.
The new 24-foot vessel follows the sold-out Arc One and the still-available Arc Sport, originally priced at $300,000 and $268,000, respectively, and offers a more affordable entry point for recreational boaters. According to Electrek, this new model is aimed at broader recreational markets, offering simplified design and reduced material costs while still delivering the power and performance of its predecessors.

Arc Coast features a high-voltage 226 kWh battery, the same system used in the Arc Sport, which, according to Electrek, gives the boat a top speed of 50 miles per hour and a cruising time of four to five hours on a single charge. Instead of the large outboard engines common in traditional boats, Arc says it uses a compact sterndrive system.
The open deck accommodates up to 10 passengers, creating more room for fishing, relaxing, or swimming without the bulk and noise associated with combustion engines, Electrek reports.
Arc said in a statement that the center console format has long been used for fishing and sandbar outings, offering flexible movement and social space. The Arc Coast was designed from scratch to deliver quiet electric performance, streamlined software, and a simplified ownership experience compared to traditional gas-powered boats. The design also enables Arc to simplify the layout and reduce material costs.

'People love center consoles, but the experience hasn't improved,' Lee said in the statement. 'The Arc Coast is what you get when you start from scratch: all the benefits of quiet and powerful electric performance, powered by advanced software, and paired with an ownership experience free from many of the headaches common with today's gas boats.'
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, diesel-powered boats contribute significantly to marine pollution through oil leaks, ground-level ozone, and toxic emissions that impact coastal ecosystems. Electric boats offer a cleaner alternative because they are quieter, require less maintenance, and can be charged with energy from renewable sources, Arc says.
Even when factoring in the environmental cost of lithium-ion battery production, a 2016 report suggests that electric marine transport remains more sustainable than extracting and burning billions of tons of fossil fuels each year.
Arc says it reused its existing battery system to reduce development time and expects to bring the Arc Coast to market in less than one year from prototype to production. While the $168,000 price tag still places the Arc Coast in the premium category, the cost is significantly lower than previous Arc models. The new model fits into a broader trend of electrification in transportation, where marine sectors are now undergoing rapid shifts toward battery-powered mobility, according to a 2025 report from Grand View Research.
Interested buyers can reserve the Arc Coast directly through the company's website, with deliveries expected to begin in 2026.

Qualcomm Expands into AI Data Centers with Alphawave IP Acquisition

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) is one of the 8 Best Inexpensive Stocks to Buy Right Now. On June 9, Qualcomm announced its agreement to acquire Alphawave IP Group for an implied enterprise value of ~$2.4 billion. The acquisition will be carried out through Qualcomm's indirect wholly-owned subsidiary, called Aqua Acquisition Sub LLC. This move aims to expand Qualcomm's presence in the booming AI data center market and reduce its reliance on smartphone chips. Cristiano Amon, President and CEO of Qualcomm, stated that Alphawave's high-speed wired connectivity and compute technologies are complementary to Qualcomm's power-efficient CPU and NPU cores, which include their next-gen custom Qualcomm Oryon CPU and Qualcomm Hexagon NPU processors. This acquisition is expected to provide key assets for Qualcomm's expansion into data centers, where growth in AI inferencing is driving demand for high-performance, low-power computing. An aerial view of a bustling semiconductor production zone showcasing the company's integrated circuits. Alphawave shareholders will be offered 183 pence per share in cash. This represents a premium of ~96% to Alphawave's closing price on March 31, which was the day immediately preceding Qualcomm's disclosure of its interest. The deal is not anticipated to face material regulatory obstacles, especially after Alphawave exited its Chinese joint venture, WiseWave, on June 9. The acquisition is expected to be completed during Q1 2026, pending certain conditions. Lucid Group Stock: Analysts Fear This 1 Problem Is "More Consequential" Than Investors Think

The EV maker's sales are expected to explode in the coming year. But analysts fear that Lucid Group will face financing troubles. Significantly more funding will be needed in the period ahead. 10 stocks we like better than Lucid Group › Lucid Group (NASDAQ: LCID) stock has tremendous long-term growth potential. Its market capitalization right now is under $7 billion -- less than 1% the size of Tesla. This year, sales are expected to grow by 78%. Next year, another 96% sales growth is expected. There's only one problem. According to analysts from Bank of America, there is one emerging risk that is "more consequential" than the market realizes. It's possible that this risk could eventually sink the entire business. After reporting a $397 million fourth-quarter loss this February, Lucid revealed that its longtime CEO, Peter Rawlinson, would be stepping down. It was a surprise to most investors. Rawlinson's comments made the move seem less abrupt than it appeared from an outside perspective, but his absence from the quarterly conference call drew uncertainty. After leading the electric vehicle (EV) maker for 12 years, overseeing the launch of both its Air sedan and Gravity SUV, he simply stated that it was time to move on. "Now that we have successfully launched the Lucid Gravity, I have decided it is finally the right time for me to step aside from my roles at Lucid," Rawlinson explained. Regardless of why Rawlinson stepped aside, many analysts weren't pleased. "We think the departure of Lucid's founder, CEO, and CTO, Peter Rawlinson is much more consequential than understood by the market," Bank of America analyst John Murphy explained after downgrading the stock to underperform. "We now expect product development to stall, consumer demand to be dampened, and anticipate additional funding opportunities could be put at risk." Access to funding is the most critical risk for Lucid. The company now has less than $1.9 billion in cash on the books, yet it posted a $2.4 billion loss over the last 12 months. The company already raised $1.75 billion in late 2024 despite a weak share price, and its shares outstanding have jumped by roughly 30% over the past six months. All in all, Lucid has been racing to raise cash. Yet its cash burn remains very high, share dilution is accelerating, and its share price remains in the dumps, limiting its ability to self-finance without massively diluting shareholders. If capital access is further restrained, as Bank of America believes could happen, the situation could quickly become dire. But could Lucid really go bankrupt over the next 12 months? Like most early stage EV companies, Lucid has been losing money for its entire operating history. It's very expensive to design, build, and scale a capital-intensive business like this. Only until critical scale is achieved, largely through the release of affordable mass market vehicles, do profit margins typically turn positive. Fortunately, Lucid is on the cusp of releasing three new mass market vehicles. Management recently reaffirmed that the first of these should begin production in late 2026, though these timelines are often pushed out. Meanwhile, rapid sales growth from its recently introduced Gravity platform should provide investors with additional confidence. But there's no doubt that time is limited. Some analysts have lost faith in the company, and positive profit margins are still likely years away, leaving the business dependent on outside funding to survive. While it's a very rough estimate, Lucid currently needs around $500 million in cash per quarter to stay afloat. Its current cash pile, plus additional stock sales, should give it at least another year. However, significantly more funding will be needed to get its mass market vehicles into production. That'll likely require sizable share dilution. So while the company may survive, there's no guarantee that long-term investors will benefit. Apple's AI Misstep? 5 Tech Updates Your Business Can't Ignore

Here are five business technology news stories this week and how they affect your company. Did you miss them? Apple's annual World Wide Developer Conference this year seemed to fall short of expectations. According to one report its recent WWDC event has been a "disappointment on the AI front" and that the 'company failed to meet even the basic expectations. The same report said that 'Wall Street has also delivered a dip in the stock price after the event. There had been a lot of hype around Apple Intelligence a year ago. Many bullish analysts projected that this would start another big upgrade cycle for the iPhone and could open up new monetization options for the company. The hype has not met reality, and we have not seen any major upgrade trajectory in the iPhone in the last few quarters.' (Source: Seeking Alpha) Why this is important for your business: Two takes: 1 – The company is reinforcing its main product lines and that's a good thing. In its official update the company said it is rolling out major updates to its services this fall, enhancing user experiences across its operating systems. It is also upgrading Apple Maps to give users preferred routes and visited places for smarter navigation. Apple Wallet will feature Apple Intelligence-powered order tracking, Digital ID integration, and enhanced Apple Pay features. 2 – Patience. Unlike some of its other big tech competitors, Apple is more hesitant releasing products based on technologies that still aren't working as they've been hyped. By this I mean AI. This is a company built on innovation, quality and reliability. So the company is going slower down this road and only releasing new features when they are reliable enough to use. Does this mean that they're behind in the AI 'race?' Considering how long this race still has to go, I don't think so at all. Microsoft Teams is rolling out new feature allowing users to open core collaboration components such as chat, meetings, and files – in separate windows with Teams. This provides a more modular workflow across multiple displays or tasks – and allows users to tailor their workspace. The enhancement is in response to user's request for greater control over application management. Rolling out soon to commercial users, a preview is available by joining the Teams Public Preview or Targeted Release. 'This improvement enables users to manage their core collaboration applications more efficiently, ultimately leading to a more streamlined and effective work environment,' Microsoft stated. (Source: Cyber Security News) Why this is important for your business: As Teams grows in popularity more users within organizations need better control over their access, collaboration and data sharing. They also want a more individualized experience. These updates are a big step in that direction. If your company is using Teams my advice is to make sure it's the latest build and to also pay for a little training from a Microsoft consultant so that your users are fully taking advantage of this application. A new survey conducted by Reimagine Main Street in partnership with PayPal, reveals that 82 percent of small businesses believe adopting AI is essential to staying competitive. One thousand small businesses with revenue between $25,000–$5,000,000participated in the study. Over 50 percent are exploring AI, while 25 percent have already integrated it into daily operations. With automation, 77 percent see AI as a game-changer for marketing and customer engagement. Additionally, 53 percent say AI-powered cash flow forecasting would solve a major pain point by enhancing financial intelligence. Forty-five percent are eager to use AI for staffing, inventory, and marketing decisions. The survey categorizes businesses into Active Users, Explorers, and Non-Users – highlighting a shift from AI being a futuristic concept to a necessary tool for growth. (Source: PR Newswire) Why this is important for your business: I agree that AI is a game changer and that it will have a big impact on small businesses. But I don't believe it's having that impact yet. Sure, some businesses are dabbling with generative AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini and CoPilot, but these tools are still hallucinating (i.e. making errors) too much to be relied upon for any serious decision making. HubSpot has launched the first CRM deep research connector with ChatGPT, allowing businesses to apply AI-powered analysis to their customer data. This integration enables marketing, sales, and service teams to gain actionable insights without requiring extensive data expertise. Key features include AI-driven customer segmentation – businesses can analyze customer cohorts and create targeted engagement strategies. Sales optimization allows teams go identify high-value opportunities based on revenue, industry, and technology stack. Customer success insights utilizes AI to help detect inactive accounts with growth potential and suggests re-engagement strategies. HubSpot emphasizes that this tool democratizes advanced analytics for SMBs, making AI-powered insights more accessible. (Source: Business Wire) Why this is important for your business: This is really a game-changer for CRM applications. And there will more of this. But think of it: rather than building your own internal model you simply connect a chatbot like ChatGPT to your CRM system and then train it on your data. This way your sales and service teams can not only ask questions about customers, prospects and other CRM activities but ultimately launch agents to perform tasks automatically based on these queries. My expectation is that most mainstream CRM vendors will partner with the major chatbot providers to offer similar functionality in the near future. User-generated content (UGC) is becoming increasingly valuable for SEO – as Google prioritizes helpful, trustworthy, and people-first content. The search experience is evolving as platforms like Reddit and TikTok are influencing search rankings, indicating that users prefer real experiences and recommendations. UGC's SEO benefits include reviews, forums, and social posts help brands boost visibility and engagement. Google is integrating UGC more prominently to meet user expectations.. (Source: Search Engine Land) Why this is important for your business: As search behavior shifts, brands that embrace UGC will gain a competitive edge. Each week I round up five business technology news stories and give my thoughts on how these stories impact your business and mine.
