Actor Silambarasan, popularly known as Simbu or STR, is currently promoting 'Thug Life', his upcoming film with Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam. During the film's promotion, Simbu revealed intriguing details about his next project, tentatively titled 'STR 50'. The actor said that he would be playing a character with feminine characteristics.In an interview with Behindwood, the actor said, 'Yes, there's a role with feminine elements in the film. We even discussed it with Kamal Haasan to understand how to approach it. Only when an actor gets something different like this can he show his true calibre.'advertisementThe project, which marks his 50th film, will be produced under his home banner Atman Cine Arts. Opening up about why he turned producer, Simbu explained, 'I feel producing myself is better. I can create the kind of cinema we imagine without compromises.'
Interestingly, 'STR 50' was initially announced in 2023 as a collaboration with Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International. However, that project was later dropped. Kamal Hassan, in the same interview, revealed, 'We wanted STR for 'Thug Life', so we sacrificed the earlier project. They can still make it, it's a beautiful story.'Reuniting with long-time collaborator Yuvan Shankar Raja for music, 'STR 50' also ropes in Manoj Paramahamsa as cinematographer and Praveen for editing. ‘Thug Life' box office collections day 2: Kamal Haasan's film collects only Rs 7.50 cr: Faces steep drop

According to early estimates reported by the Sacnilk website, the film earned Rs 7.50 crore (across all languages) in India on Day 2, a significant decline from its Rs 15.5 crore opening. This brings the total two-day India net collection to Rs 23 crore. The dip in collections raises questions about the film's ability to sustain its momentum over the weekend, especially in non-Tamil markets. Occupancy dips outside Tamil Nadu 'Thug Life's Tamil version maintained a moderate occupancy rate on Friday with an overall 31.41%. The film showed gradual improvement throughout the day in Tamil Nadu, particularly in Chennai, which recorded a 59% night show occupancy. Housefull 5 Box Office Collection day 1: Decent start for Akshay Kumar's film, crosses ₹13 crore on opening day
Housefull 5 Box Office Collection day 1: The much-awaited film, Housefull 5, starring Akshay Kumar and his gang released in cinema on Friday. Off to a decent start, the murder mystery has crossed ₹ 13 crore at the box office. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Housefull 5 has so far minted ₹ 13.81 crore. However, these are the real-time updates from morning and afternoon. The final figures will be out after 10 pm. If the film maintains similar momentum during the evening and night shows, its total earnings could potentially double by the end of the day. Housefull 5 had an overall 20.93% Occupancy on Friday in 2D format. The 3D format saw an occupancy of 10.76% on June 06, 2025. Cities like Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Ahmedabad had the highest occupancy with the highest number of screenings for the film in all formats. Following closely is Pune, Bengaluru and Surat on the list. Housefull 5 is clashing with the Hindi version of Kamal Haasan's Thug Life which was released a day ahead of Housefull 6. Thug Life, however, has received an underwhelming response. On the other hand, both the films are also clashing with Maddock Films' Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi.
