While the Last Real Champion walked with the gold still around his waist, his win attracted the attention of his other iconic rival, CM Punk. The Best in the World dropped a photo of Cena's shot with the belt after Backlash win, with the text stating that he is still the champion. Punk wrote,
"For now,"
sparking a huge debate about whether he could be next in line to face him.

Cena and Punk have a historic past at the event. In 2011, Money in the Bank took place in Punk's hometown of Chicago, Illinois. He challenged Cena for the WWE title in one of the greatest in-ring showdowns of all time. The ending was even memorable as Punk defeated Cena, took the WWE title, and fled from the crowd, not before blowing a kiss to McMahon as his contract ended that night.
Interestingly, Cena announced his farewell tour last year at Money in the Bank PLE and even got snapped with Punk following the announcement.
