NEW DELHI: Centre has approved the deployment of 581 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), comprising roughly 58,000 personnel, for securing the
Amarnath Yatra
, beginning on July 3.
The pilgrimage is the first major crowd-attracting event to be organised in Jammu & Kashmir since Pahalgam attack. Both Pahalgam and Amarnath are in Anantnag district. In fact, Pahalgam falls on Amarnath Yatra route.
The 581 CAPF companies include 156 companies already stationed in J&K. An additional 425 companies are being sent to the UT, which include 128 CRPF companies, 130 from BSF, 45 from CISF, 55 from ITBP and 67 from SSB. These additional deployments are to be made available in the next few days.
The Amarnath Yatra will begin on July 3 and end on Aug 9. However, most of the yatris are expected to visit the cave shrine in the first 15-20 days of the pilgrimage, before the ice shivling melts.

Uttarakhand cabinet approves Lord Vishnu icon constructions at Badrinath

The Uttarakhand cabinet on Wednesday approved the construction of icons associated with Lord Vishnu at the Badrinath temple complex as part of its redevelopment master plan. The four projects include a Sheshnetra Lotus Wall to be built at the Badrinath lakefront, a Sudarshan Chakra sculpture to be erected at the Badrinath arrival plaza, a Sudarshan Chowk 'kalakriti' (artwork) to be installed at the same spot and a tree and river sculpture at Badrinarayan Chowk within the Himalayan temple's premises. Located at a height of more than 10,000 feet from the sea level, the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Informing the media about the decisions taken by the state cabinet, Shailesh Bagauli, Secretary to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, said. The projects have been conceived by the Tourism Department under the Badrinath redevelopment master plan. Their implementation will either be funded under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), or by the Centre or the state government, he said. The cabinet also gave its approval to restructure the Uttarakhand Human Rights Commission by creating 12 new posts in addition to the 47 already in existence. The cabinet also approved the creation of 15 new posts in the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission apart from the 62 already in existence for its better functioning. The cabinet decided to exempt only plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and strong hybrid electric vehicles from the motor vehicle tax payable under the new rule 125 'M' of the Central Motor Vehicles (Ninth Amendment) Rules, 2023. The objective of the decision is to encourage vehicle owners to purchase and use vehicles of the said category and also to reduce pollution. The tax exemption will be valid only once in the current financial year 2025-26, Bagauli said.

The Centre has granted approval for a long-stalled railway project in Kerala , Minister V Abdurahiman said on Tuesday, paving the way for the construction of a rail line connecting Angamaly and the foothills of Sabarimala.A decision in this regard was taken during a meeting held between Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi, Abdurahiman said in a expert team from the Centre is scheduled to arrive in Kerala the very next day, and the land acquisition process is set to begin in July itself, he length of the railway line between Angamaly and Erumeli, proposed in the 1997-98 railway budget, is 111.48 km."With this, a new world of rail connectivity and development is opening up for Kerala. It will also boost the economic growth of Ernakulam, Idukki and Pathanamthitta districts," Abdurahiman, who also took part in the meeting in Delhi, Sabari railway line also has the distinction of being the first line to connect Idukki district with the railway line, sanctioned by the Indian Railways during late 1990s, has been pending for nearly three decades.A meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in last December, had decided to seek approval from the central government for implementing the Sabari Rail Project through the Angamaly - Erumeli - Nilakkal route in an expanded manner.
