South Africa Choke Again, Fail To Score 7 Runs In Last Over Of Tri-Series Final

News1826-07-2025
Matt Henry bowled the final over of the T20I Tri-series final in Harare on Saturday, and the 33-year-old pacer successfully managed to defend 7 runs to seal a famous win for NZ.
South Africa needed 7 runs from six balls on Saturday (July 26) to win the T20I tri-series final against New Zealand in Harare, but they failed to score seven runs and went on to lose the match by three runs in a dramatic manner. At the end of 19 overs in the run chase, the South African team was cruising at 174/4, and the target was 181 runs.
Just when everyone started thinking that the game was over for New Zealand, Mitchell Santner handed the ball to Matt Henry, and the 33-year-old fast bowler successfully managed to defend seven runs to secure a famous win for his team.
On the first ball of the final over, he bowled a dot ball against dangerman Dewald Brevis and then on the second ball picked up his wicket. Brevis tried to play a big shot against Henry but was caught by Michael Bracewell near the boundary ropes. Brevis faced 16 balls and, with the help of one four and three sixes, scored 31 runs.
On the third ball, Corbin Bosch also tried to play a big shot, but this time Bracewell failed to complete the difficult catch, and the South African all-rounder completed two runs to bring down the equation to 5 needed from 3 balls.
On the fourth ball, Bosch ran one run to bring George Linde back on strike.
On the fifth ball, when South Africa needed 4 runs to win from two balls, Linde tried to play a big shot down the ground, but Daryl Mitchell completed a super diving catch to stun South African fans.
Linde's wicket on the penultimate ball of the run chase left South Africa needing a boundary on the last ball, but Senuran Muthusamy failed to score any runs.
The clip of the final over by Henry was shared on X by FanCode, and within no time, the video went viral on the internet.

Henry finished the match with figures of 2 for 19 in three overs, and for winning the match for Kiwis in the last over, he bagged the Player of the Match award. He also finished the T20I series with a total of 10 wickets in four matches, which was the most by any player, and it helped him bag the Player of the Series award.

Mohammed Siraj Called 'Pantomime Villain' After Heroic Show: 'People Love To Hate Him'

Last Updated: Mohammed Siraj's stellar performance in the 5th Test against England led to a 2-2 series draw, taking 23 wickets. Mohammed Siraj has become the toast of Indian cricket following his gust-busting spell in the 5th Test that concluded with a remarkable win for the tourists and a 2-2 conclusion to their five-match series with England. Siraj finished the tour with 23 wickets and kept hitting the headlines with his performance and histrionics. He took a six-fer at Edgbaston, a five-over at Oval and then had skirmishes with England batters including Ben Duckett. He was punished for his aggressive send-off to Duckett with the two brushing shoulders. He was left crestfallen after becoming the 10th Indian wicket to fall in the unluckiest of fashion at Lord's that sealed a thrilling England win. He dropped a catch of Harry Brook on the fourth day of the 5th Test which, again, left him devastated. Brook went on to score a century – an innings that seemed to have put England in the driving seat in the hunt of another 350-plus chase. Monday was Siraj's redemption as he starred in India's defense of 35 runs on the final day as the visitors knocked down the remaining four wickets to ensure the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy ended on level terms. And former England captain Nasser Hussain has praised Siraj, drawing comparisons with the legendary Shane Warne who was loved and hated by fans in equal measure. Daily Mail. 'He's a born entertainer, but crucially he's got all the other attributes you need at the highest level: heart, passion, and ultimately skill," he added. Hussain then shed light on how Siraj has polished his skill to outfox the best batters of this generation. 'He's (Siraj) gone from being a hit-the-deck bowler using wobble seam to trap people LBW – as he did with Joe Root – to one who has developed outswing so big that Shubman Gill wasn't interested in taking the second new ball," he wrote. Then, there is the fabulous yorker, such as the one to Crawley late on day three. He went to it again just before midday, knowing that Gus Atkinson was trying to hit him over midwicket for a second six that would have tied the game, nailing it under the most immense pressure," he added. Hussain said the series was the best since the Ashes 2005 which England won in dramatic fashion. 'The fifth morning was so dramatic that you really couldn't script it, concluding the best series I've seen since 2005," he wrote. view comments First Published: News cricket Mohammed Siraj Called 'Pantomime Villain' After Heroic Show: 'People Love To Hate Him' Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Sub-junior Boxing Nationals to be held in Greater Noida from August 7

New Delhi, Aug 5 (PTI) More than 700 pugilists, including 400 boys and 300 girls, will compete in the Sub-junior (U-15) National Championships to be held in Greater Noida from August 7 to 13, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) said on Tuesday. As part of BFI's broader vision to build a robust grassroots-to-elite pathway, the Sub-Junior Nationals, to be held across 15 weight categories, will serve as a crucial platform to identify young talent and prepare them for bigger competitions. The event follows the successful conduct of the men's, women's, and junior Nationals earlier this year. Haryana (girls) and Chandigarh (boys) are the defending champions. 'The Sub-Junior Nationals are where India's boxing journey truly begins," said Ajay Singh, the BFI's Interim Committee president-chairperson. 'This platform helps identify talented individuals and allows them to experience real competition early in their careers. The skills, discipline, and confidence developed here are the first building blocks of international success. This is a significant grassroots step in these young boxers' journeys, and we're sure we'll see many stars of the future in action." Boxers will compete under World Boxing technical rules, with three rounds of 1.5 minutes each, with a minute's rest in between rounds. A 10-point scoring system will be followed. Medal winners from the REC Combined Talent Hunt 2024 are also eligible, making the competition even more competitive. At the recent Asian U-15 and U-17 Championships, Indian boxers bagged 43 medals and finished second overall. Yograj Singh Compares Siraj With World Cup-Winning Captain: 'Reminded Me...'

Last Updated: Former cricketer Yograj Singh saw shades of former India World Cup-winning captain in Mohammed Siraj's spell at the Oval. Mohammed Siraj's sensational five-wicket haul at the Oval reminded former India cricketer Yograj Singh of the legendary World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev. The outcome of the first edition of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy was determined in the first hour of the final day, with India clinching a thrilling six-run victory, a memorable success story. After weather interruptions caused an early end to the fourth day, the situation was clear for both sides. England needed 35 more runs to reach the 374-run target. Meanwhile, India required four wickets to thwart England's attempt to spoil Shubman Gill's debut series as captain. Siraj and Prasidh Krishna's intense bowling spells in a light drizzle in London dismantled England's lower order, concluding the five-match series in a 2-2 draw. Yograj was highly impressed by India's spectacular performance. He noted that Siraj's bowling reminded him of the legendary Indian captain Kapil Dev, renowned for his brilliant spells. The 67-year-old praised Gill's mature captaincy, observing that it did not seem like he was leading the team for the first time on an important overseas tour. 'The way our players have performed, it was incredible to watch. Mohammed Siraj's bowling reminded me of Kapil Dev. Shubman Gill's captaincy appeared mature, as if he wasn't captaining for the first time," Yograj told ANI. In the series' decisive moment, Siraj delivered the final blow with his trademark 'Sui' celebration. On his 1,113th delivery of the series, he executed a perfect yorker, hitting Gus Atkinson's stumps to secure India's narrow six-run victory, finishing with five wickets in the second innings and match figures of 9/190. Throughout the five Tests, Siraj has been a dynamic presence and a tireless worker, consistently delivering wicket-taking spells for India. He redefined workload management, giving his all in the five Tests, and emerged as the series' leading wicket-taker. Siraj's determination and resilience were evident in the 1,113 deliveries he bowled, claiming 23 wickets at an average of 32.43.
