ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — Two murder suspects have been arrested by Albuquerque police on Wednesday. One suspect is accused of fatally shooting a man in 2021, then killing a witness in 2022. The second suspect is accused of driving the car used in the secondary, retaliatory shooting.

Police say Nathanial Lopez, 29, is being charged with two open counts of murder and one count of shooting at or from a motor vehicle resulting in death. Angelique Salazar, 30, is facing an open count of murder and a conspiracy charge.
On Dec. 23, 2021, police say Lopez allegedly shot Christopher Pino, 32, after a fight at Bluewater Village Apartments off Coors Boulevard in west Albuquerque. Krystal Castillo, who was dating Pino, told a friend she saw Lopez kill Pino. Castillo also told her friend she was terrified Lopez would try to kill her due to her witnessing the shooting.
Four months later, on April 25, 2022, Castillo saw Lopez at a gathering. A witness said Lopez got out a handgun and threatened Castillo, who left the gathering. When Castillo returned to her apartment with a friend, Lopez was waiting in a car. The vehicles approached each other. A witness said he saw Lopez lean out of the passenger side window, then fire several shots towards their car. Castillo was struck and taken to the hospital, where she died.
In 2022, Lopez was arrested in a different incident. His gun was taken as evidence. Investigators found out that a gun was used in both homicides. When detectives questioned Lopez, he denied his involvement. The investigation carried on until detectives obtained arrest warrants on May 22. He was arrested nearly a week later on Wednesday, May 28.
Salazar was also arrested on Wednesday. Police say she was driving the silver Ford Escape from shots were fired from in the 2022 shooting.

Warmer temperatures return for the weekend, wildfire smoke to glaze the sky

ST. LOUIS – The lingering rain of Thursday evening has exited, but some clouds and a few wrap-around showers will linger through 8 a.m. Friday morning. Skies will clear later Friday morning, with sunshine returning Friday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to reach highs in the upper 70s. That sunshine may be a bit hazy Friday due to smoke from Canadian wildfires moving through the upper atmosphere and into the Mississippi River Valley. Expect that smoke to be around through the weekend, leading to some stunning sunrises and sunsets. 'Will you marry him?': 3rd grade teacher proposed on last day of school The weekend looks much warmer and almost completely dry, with high temperatures in the mid-80s for Saturday and mid- to upper 80s for Sunday. A backdoor cold front, sinking out of the Great Lakes, may squeeze a few spot showers out over Illinois late Saturday. Most will stay dry. We'll be in the upper 80s early next week, close to the 90 F mark we have yet to hit officially this calendar year in St. Louis. It's expected to be cloudy Tuesday with breezy conditions and rain chances late in the day. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Friday, May 30 forecast: Transitioning to dry pattern, but will it last?

May will go down as another month with above normal rainfall at 7.57″. This brings our 2-month total from April and May to over 20″. We've seen enough, and we're catching a break for now, but another period of rain is likely later next week. Download our KOLR 10 weather app Dense fog may make your morning drive difficult. Visibility in some spots is reduced to less than half a mile. Fog is expected to lift by 9 AM, revealing a mostly sunny sky. Today will be nice, so soak in every minute this Friday. Skies will feature a mix of sun and clouds this afternoon, along with periods of mostly sunny conditions. Temperatures will warm to the mid-70s with a light northwest breeze. The weekend looks just as nice with a trend toward warmer temperatures. Humidity levels remain low, and rain chances are scarce. A slight chance for rain exists west of Highway 65 Saturday night. We get back to quiet and mostly sunny skies on Sunday with temperatures in the 80s. Something else this weekend is the potential for wildfire smoke from Canada to create a hazy sky. Surface air quality should be fine as smoke is likely to stay in the mid to upper levels of the atmosphere. Looking ahead at the upcoming pattern, another round of storms is positioned to arrive on Thursday next week. June will likely begin with another rainy period starting in the middle of next week through next weekend. Several rounds of rain during the first 10 days of June could lead to more flooding. Enjoy the nice weekend, but we're not out of the woods yet. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
