Friday, May 30 forecast: Transitioning to dry pattern, but will it last?

Yahooa day ago

May will go down as another month with above normal rainfall at 7.57″. This brings our 2-month total from April and May to over 20″. We've seen enough, and we're catching a break for now, but another period of rain is likely later next week.

Dense fog may make your morning drive difficult. Visibility in some spots is reduced to less than half a mile. Fog is expected to lift by 9 AM, revealing a mostly sunny sky.
Today will be nice, so soak in every minute this Friday. Skies will feature a mix of sun and clouds this afternoon, along with periods of mostly sunny conditions. Temperatures will warm to the mid-70s with a light northwest breeze.
The weekend looks just as nice with a trend toward warmer temperatures. Humidity levels remain low, and rain chances are scarce. A slight chance for rain exists west of Highway 65 Saturday night. We get back to quiet and mostly sunny skies on Sunday with temperatures in the 80s.
Something else this weekend is the potential for wildfire smoke from Canada to create a hazy sky. Surface air quality should be fine as smoke is likely to stay in the mid to upper levels of the atmosphere.
Looking ahead at the upcoming pattern, another round of storms is positioned to arrive on Thursday next week.
June will likely begin with another rainy period starting in the middle of next week through next weekend. Several rounds of rain during the first 10 days of June could lead to more flooding. Enjoy the nice weekend, but we're not out of the woods yet.

More moisture moves into New Mexico through the weekend

Temperatures are going to be even hotter this weekend across the state with high temperatures climbing into the mid-90s this weekend in the Albuquerque Metro. Afternoon rain and thunderstorms will pop up across the mountain ranges first, before spreading into the lower elevations late in the afternoon and evening. Most of the storms will be over the mountains though this weekend. Heavy rain is possible out of some of these storms, which will bring a risk of burn scar flash flooding, especially in the Ruidoso area. A storm system will move into New Mexico Monday as it combines with moisture from what is currently a tropical storm in the eastern Pacific. This will bring widespread showers and storms across New Mexico, with a band of storms moving across the state Monday morning, then scattered showers and storms through the afternoon. Temperatures will also be cooler statewide on Monday with the rain. Isolated storm chances return to the northern half of the state Tuesday. Another low pressure system will move across New Mexico Wednesday, again bringing scattered showers and starts to a large part of the state. Drier weather will return statewide starting Thursday.
