Saturday, May 31 forecast: Quick hitting storm could bring rain tonight
The weekend is off to a great start! Sunny, mild, not windy. All good things! The skies, however, are a bit hazy from smoke created by wildfires in Southern Canada. Air quality is currently okay, but feel free to check AirNOW for further updates. Download our KOLR 10 weather app A small storm system is tracking through the Plains this evening and will bring rain and thunderstorms to parts of Kansas and Oklahoma. Spots near and west of Highway 65 in Missouri and Arkansas have a low risk of seeing any rain tonight, but it is possible. Rainfall totals are thankfully expected to stay on the lighter side for areas that see rain tonight. Otherwise, tonight will be mild in the upper 50s to low 60s. Sunday will be warm in the 80s, and any clouds will be moving on by the morning. Skies may still be hazy on Sunday from wildfire smoke. A south breeze returns on Monday and that should help remove some of the haze in the sky by Tuesday. Temperatures will stay warm in the low 80s on Monday and Tuesday. Our next chance for rain and storms develops late Tuesday. This wave of thunderstorms may also produce a little severe weather. Rain chances will likely remain active through the work week. Additional storms are lining up, and we could be dealing with another rainy weekend next week. The overall pattern in June will likely begin soggy, but end on more of a drier note as we get past the middle of the month. Fingers crossed! Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Friday, May 30 forecast: Transitioning to dry pattern, but will it last?
May will go down as another month with above normal rainfall at 7.57″. This brings our 2-month total from April and May to over 20″. We've seen enough, and we're catching a break for now, but another period of rain is likely later next week. Download our KOLR 10 weather app Dense fog may make your morning drive difficult. Visibility in some spots is reduced to less than half a mile. Fog is expected to lift by 9 AM, revealing a mostly sunny sky. Today will be nice, so soak in every minute this Friday. Skies will feature a mix of sun and clouds this afternoon, along with periods of mostly sunny conditions. Temperatures will warm to the mid-70s with a light northwest breeze. The weekend looks just as nice with a trend toward warmer temperatures. Humidity levels remain low, and rain chances are scarce. A slight chance for rain exists west of Highway 65 Saturday night. We get back to quiet and mostly sunny skies on Sunday with temperatures in the 80s. Something else this weekend is the potential for wildfire smoke from Canada to create a hazy sky. Surface air quality should be fine as smoke is likely to stay in the mid to upper levels of the atmosphere. Looking ahead at the upcoming pattern, another round of storms is positioned to arrive on Thursday next week. June will likely begin with another rainy period starting in the middle of next week through next weekend. Several rounds of rain during the first 10 days of June could lead to more flooding. Enjoy the nice weekend, but we're not out of the woods yet. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Heavy Rainfall in Ozarks Breaks 80-Year-Old Record
The Ozarks have officially recorded their wettest April and May on record, with over 20 inches of rainfall falling across the region in the last two months. This surpasses the pervious record set back in 1943. Year Total Precipitation April & May 2025 20.02″ 1943 19.99″ 2017 19.45″ 2019 18.18″ 1957 17.27″ April and May are typically two of the wettest months of the year, but these year's totals have far exceeded expectations. The excessive rainfall has led to swollen rivers, saturated soils, and localized flooding. Check out his video of the James River as it approched near record values. We will be getting a break from rain for the first week of June before more is expected to return. Thankfully, the severe weather season is expected to slow down as we transition into in the summer pattern. Download our KOLR 10 weather app Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Tuesday, May 27 forecast: Trying to shake off the showers
We almost got through today without rainfall. An afternoon wave of rain spilled across the area, as another pocket of upper-level energy moved through the wet weather pipeline. Download our KOLR 10 weather app This wave of rain is lighter than past waves and won't last through the night. Showers will shift east of the Ozarks through midnight with cloudy skies the remainder of the night. A pocket of low pressure parked across the Dakotas and Minnesota is pushing a conveyor belt of rain makers across the region. Another pocket of upper-level energy is poised to make for wet weather Thursday, but there will be a gap in the rain on Wednesday. Morning clouds will thin with some breaks in the clouds, allowing for more sun by the afternoon hours. Temperatures will respond by warming into the 70s. The next wave of rain will set up by sunrise Thursday, spilling into Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas. There could be a bit of thunder, but no severe weather is expected at this time. The rain will shift east through the area, exiting by late afternoon. Areas to the west (near and west of Hwy. 65) should see a little afternoon sunshine. High temperatures will run cool again thanks to the clouds and wet weather. Clouds will clear out in time for the end of the week, with Friday shaping up to be the nicest day of the week. Skies will be mostly sunny, humidity levels will be comfortable, and afternoon highs will be nice enough to have the windows open. Another system will dive south into the area by Saturday afternoon, triggering a wave of showers and thunderstorms. At this stage, the highest chances will be west of Highway 65, and severe weather chances look limited. Much of the day will be dry, and temperatures will be warmer, putting an end to the unusually cool stretch of May weather. As we flip the page on the calendar from May to June, look for an early summer pattern to settle in. A much warmer weather pattern will settle in for next week. It will also be a time to dry out, with rain chances remaining low until the end of the week. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Tuesday, May 27 forecast: Rain continues to impact the Ozarks
Flooding has been a major issue around the Ozarks, hampering holiday plans on area rivers along with creating dangerous driving conditions. This is especially true around low water crossings, many of which have been impacted by flooding through the weekend. Download our KOLR 10 weather app Yesterday's rain added about a half-inch to our monthly rain gauge in Springfield. This brings the monthly total to 6.67″ of rain, nearly 2″ above normal. Spotty light rain showers and pockets of drizzle will persist today. Today won't be as much of a washout as it was on Monday. Temperatures should be warmer today but still below normal, nearing 70° this afternoon. Rain chances slump to near zero tonight and Wednesday. Clouds will thin out some, too, offering a little sunshine and a boost in high temperatures. The dry weather will be short-lived with rain returning on Thursday. Another wave of low pressure will move through the area Thursday, bringing showers and some thunder. The rain will move in during the morning, moving out as we head through the afternoon. Rain amounts won't be as heavy as this past weekend, but we'll still be soaked in many spots with rain totals near half an inch over Southwest Missouri into Northern Arkansas. Thursday's storm will finally clear out the clouds for a day. Friday is shaping up to be bright and mild. Another system may move into the Ozarks Saturday, bringing a risk of scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms. At this stage, the highest chances will be west of Highway 65, and severe weather chances look limited. Sunday looks dry, and both days look warmer with highs around 80°.
