Sovereign Art Foundation Charity Award Ceremony Raises BHD 686,210 Under Patronage of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad
Manama: The fifth edition of the Sovereign Art Foundation Charity Award closing ceremony was held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs. The event was organized by the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF) in partnership with the Sovereign Art Foundation, raising approximately BHD 686,210 to support the RHF's educational and health programs.
According to Bahrain News Agency, HH Shaikh Nasser affirmed that His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's continued support for charitable work reflects a deep commitment to protecting vulnerable groups and promoting dignity and social welfare. HH Shaikh Nasser highlighted the role of such initiatives in fostering a culture of giving and strengthening social cohesion in Bahrain and abroad.
The event featured an exhibition and charity auction of student artworks, with proceeds directed to RHF's educational and health programs. His Highness emphasized the importance of integrating charitable values into youth education and praised the creativity and civic spirit expressed through the students' artistic contributions.
His Highness also emphasized the efforts of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in supporting humanitarian projects within the national agenda. Platinum sponsors, including Arabian Gulf University and Bahrain University College, were honored for their support, along with other sponsors and contributors to the charity auction.
Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, RHF Secretary-General, commended HH Shaikh Nasser's support for the foundation, recalling his personal donation of a childhood artwork in the first charity exhibition as a gesture of encouragement for young artists and belief in the transformative power of art.

'They are not granted to those who pose a threat to public safety or social peace,' he said. 'Rather, they are designed for individuals who have recognised their mistakes, taken responsibility, and committed to reintegrating into society.' He described the programme as a humanitarian initiative that strengthens national trust, reunites families, and enhances a legal culture rooted in accountability and reform. Centre of Excellence In a significant announcement, the Minister revealed plans to establish the Centre of Excellence for Alternative Sanctions and Open Prisons, a regional hub that will train and qualify professionals involved in implementing alternative sentencing. 'This centre will help advance the system further and share Bahrain's successful model with neighbouring countries,' he stated. He added that the initiative reflects the Kingdom's growing influence in regional justice reform and will serve as a beacon for other nations looking to modernise their penal systems. Since its inception, Bahrain's alternative sentencing and open prison programme has earned recognition on the local, regional, and international levels. Developed in partnership with the Public Prosecution, the programme is rooted in the principle that while justice must be served, it should also provide avenues for redemption and rehabilitation. 'Every person, despite their setbacks in life, deserves a chance to correct their behaviour,' the Minister affirmed.

17 open-air sites ready for Eid Al Adha prayers
Dr. Shaikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Futtais Al Hajeri, Chairman of the Sunni Endowments Council, has announced that Eid Al Adha prayers will be held at official mosques and designated open air prayer areas under the Directorate's supervision on Friday June 6, at 5:00 a.m., in observance of the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). A dedicated committee formed by Dr. Shaikh Al Hajeri identified the main prayer sites, including those designated for expatriate communities in selected schools across the Kingdom. The committee confirmed the locations and closures as follows: East Hidd 1. Prayer Area in East Hidd (Hayy Al Julaiah); Closures include Al Noor Prayer Area (Kooheji), Fatima bint Fahad Al Musallam Mosque, Ahmed Abdullah Al Khaja Mosque, and Mohammed bin Mohammed Ahmadi Mosque. 2. Final Five Chosen for $1m Humanity Prize
TDT | Manama The race for one of the world's richest humanitarian honours has narrowed, with five nominees shortlisted for Bahrain's Isa Award for Service to Humanity, which carries a $1 million prize, a gold medal, and a royal certificate of appreciation. The shortlist was finalised during the tenth meeting of the award's fourth cycle, chaired by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Special Representative of His Majesty the King and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. HH Shaikh Mohammed lauded the international jury for conducting a transparent and impartial selection process. Next stage begins The Board of Trustees has tasked the Isa Award General Secretariat with conducting thorough field verification to authenticate the achievements and credentials of the five finalists, selected from over 150 candidates representing a wide range of humanitarian fields across the globe. Launched in 2008 to honour the memory of the late Amir Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Isa Award celebrates individuals or organisations making extraordinary contributions to human welfare. It is awarded every two years under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Previous recipients include Dr. Jemilah Mahmood from Malaysia for disaster relief, India's Professor Achyuta Samanta for his work in education and poverty eradication, the Children's Cancer Hospital in Egypt, Pakistan's EDHI Foundation, and Nepalese ophthalmologist Dr. Sanduk Ruit for restoring sight to the underprivileged.
