BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – You could definitely smell what Mexico Beach was cooking Saturday morning. They held their 25th annual Gumbo cook-off.
The event was held at Boat Ramp Park just off Highway 98.
There was a gumbo and a Brunswick Stew division, with cash prizes for the top 3 in each category.
There were also awards for best team spirit and best Mardi Gras decorations.
Barbeque Monsters won first place in the gumbo division, and second in Brunswick stew.
Celebrations continue at PCB Mardi Gras
Team leader David Braun says that engaging with the community is what makes this event so special to attend.
'The favorite part for me is handing out the samples and meeting people and talking to people from all over the country and all walks of life and everybody's having a great time and smiling and it's just a great event,' Barbeque Monsters Team Leader David Braun said.
While this is the third time their gumbo has taken home the gold, this is the first time that they've ever placed in Brunswick.
All the proceeds from the event will go towards funding the city's Fourth of July fireworks.

Golden Retriever Puppy Forgets How To Use Stairs, His Response Goes Viral

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A golden retriever puppy's hesitation to walk down a set of stairs has left internet viewers in stitches. Savanna Evans (@savvyevans), 34, from Lakeway, Texas, shared a video of her puppy, Steve, lying halfway down the staircase and refusing to make his way to the bottom, despite her gentle words of encouragement. The clip has since gone viral, garnering more than 455,300 views and over 51,000 likes on TikTok. "The big stairs were no problem, but those last little ones? His ultimate nemesis," Evans told Newsweek. The video shows Steve facing his biggest "nemesis"—a small set of stairs inside the family's home. Normally, she added, Steve would attempt them only if bribed with treats, but in a follow-up clip, he managed it all on his own. Evans described Steve as goofy, silly, and full of charm, with a love for food and people alike. Evans said the sweetest part is the close bond Steve has formed with her 5-year-old son, calling them inseparable best friends. The family brought Steve home on the Fourth of July when he was just 8 weeks old. He had been the runt of the litter and the very last puppy left without any interest from others. To Evans, though, Steve was perfect, and her son's request for a puppy made the timing ideal. From the start, Steve fit seamlessly into the family. Evans reflected on how special the pup has become, noting that he went from being "the last pick" of his litter to the star of their household—and, now, a viral sensation. TikTok users couldn't get enough of Steve's antics. "This Golden is smart, because he knows walking the stairs at his age will be bad for his joints," posted Bart. "You got to walk with them," added Rich. "I feel he tumbled down the previous stairs and at this point he's like no thanks im good here," wrote Honey. "Sources say he is still there waiting …" commented Isabelle. "Those little legs are tired after all those stairs," one user shared. "Start of his manipulation! He's no fool," another viewer commented. "I want to land so many kisses on this floofy baby," added a third. Ashley shared a similar memory, writing: "My boy did something similar when he was about baby. I took him for a walk and as soon as we got in front of our driveway he plops down and refused to walk on the very short driveway to the house, I had to carry him." MSNBC to change name to 'MS NOW' in Comcast spinoff deal

Print Close By Hanna Panreck Published August 18, 2025 MSNBC is set to change its name as part of Comcast's spin-off from NBC Universal, which the company announced in late 2024, according to the Wall Street Journal. The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that the left-leaning network's new name will be "My Source News Opinion World," or MS NOW. CNBC, USA, Oxygen and E! are also included in the Comcast spin-off. CNBC is going to keep its name, according to the WSJ, but is working on a new logo. The move is part of the networks' attempt to separate themselves from NBC, according to the WSJ. Cesar Conde will continue leading the NBCUniversal News Group, but now that group only includes NBC News, the NBC News Now streaming service, Telemundo and owned-and-operated local stations. The well-capitalized independent company ("SpinCo") will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content," a November press release from Comcast read. Suni Lee On Her Makeup Routine and Mental Health Post Olympics

A lot has changed for Suni Lee since winning the bronze medal in the all-around and uneven bar finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She's transitioning out of gymnastics (her words, not mine). She's moved from her hometown of Saint Paul, Minnesota, to New York City. She's become a fashion girlie (and sat front row at Tommy Hilfiger and Off-White's New York Fashion Week show to prove it). She even made her modeling debut and appeared in the 2025 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue (alongside her teammate Jordan Chiles). But one thing has remained the same for Suni: her love of beauty. 'I started getting my nails done and having a full beauty routine at 16,' she told me via Zoom. At 22, she's entering the world of beauty-influencer-dom, posting regular GRWM videos and partnering with brands like Tatcha, Make Up For Ever, Laneige, and Ole Henriksen, to name a few. Of course, Suni is not immune to viral beauty hype, but despite her access to everything, her beauty routine consists of plenty of affordable drugstore staples. 'A face full of drugstore beauty is refreshing to me,' she says. 'Just because something is super expensive, people think that it's automatically a good product and that they need it,' Suni says. 'But I'm like, 'No, you can buy this at Target. Go to CVS—like, it's right there.' You don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on products because they're hyped up right now on TikTok.' After her Cosmopolitan shoot, during which Suni exclusively wore drugstore makeup, I caught up with the gymnast to talk about everything beauty. From why she hates facials to the color she calls her 'good luck charm,' Suni spilled all of her makeup and skin secrets. But we also got into a bit more of what makes Suni, well, Suni—like her confidence journey, where she wants to travel, and the shows she's watching right now. I like to keep it simple because I have really sensitive skin. I'm not really into facials. I've had a couple done and it's always super relaxing, but my skin actually breaks out more after. Instead, I love a good collagen mask. Have you seen the salmon DNA one? Obsessed with those. And then I love to just do a depuffing gua sha. Every time I come out of a facial, I look amazing. My skin's glowing. And then, a couple days after, I have pimples everywhere. I'm like, What's going on? And then I realized it's from the facial. So the night before a big event, I do my gua sha routine, and then I put on my mask. I go to sleep, wake up, wash my face again, and then, usually, glam will come to my apartment, so it's easy. Every time I come out of a facial, I look amazing. My skin's glowing. And then a couple days after, I have pimples everywhere. I'm like, What's going on? And then I realized it's from the facial. I feel like I'm more of a makeup person. When I tried to do a more intense skincare routine and started using like 15 different products, my skin freaked out. I realized I needed to tone it down, so now I just stick to three products. But I feel like makeup always makes me feel confident and better by the end of the day. I always have to moisturize. My favorite product is the Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream.* It's the perfect base for my makeup. And then, of course, sunscreen as well. *Editor's note: She's the face of the Tatcha Dewy Milk Moisturizer. My sister first introduced me to makeup and I wasn't into it, but then I started to wear makeup when I was competing, and my love for it grew from there. Makeup makes me feel confident and pretty, and I usually have the best competition of my life wearing it. That's when it started becoming a part of my competition routine. It sparked the love that I have for the whole getting-ready process. My sophomore year of high school. Everyone looked so much older than me, and I felt like I looked like a kid compared to them. I did a little bit of concealer at first and thought, I look so good. Then I got into long, thick eyelashes. I started getting lash extensions at 16. It definitely makes my life a lot easier. When I'm wearing lashes, I wake up and automatically feel confident. My makeup routine is a lot faster too—with extensions, I can do my whole face in three minutes. When I take them off, I feel like a completely different person. I almost have an identity crisis. When I took them off for this Cosmo shoot, I was low-key freaking out, but I ended up loving how everything turned out. I don't like primer actually, because I feel like it pills, but I also feel like it just depends on whatever primer you're using. I'm not a foundation person either, but I am a concealer-all-over-the-face person. I want my beauty marks to shine through. These days, I'm trying to lean more into my natural side and just embrace my natural beauty. Under my eyes, I like the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind. Right now, I like the Hourglass concealer all over my face. The best beauty tip I've gotten was from Simone. We were at the U.S. Classic, and she was using a lip stain. I thought, That's genius. I'm always in the back corner reapplying my lip liner and lip gloss—I don't want my lips to look dry when I'm out there and the camera is so close on your face. But after that meet, I went home, bought a lip stain, and then I used it at the Olympics. It doesn't come I wore a red lip to championships because my leotard was all red and super sparkly. From that meet on, I was like, Oh, red lips are my good luck charm. I'm a very superstitious person. So I wore a red lip to the Olympic trials, got named to the Olympic team, and then I wore it again on all-around finals, and it was a really good meet. Now I'm like, Maybe I need to start incorporating more red. I thought I had a red leotard curse, because I would always have a bad meet in a red leotard. But I broke the curse at championships, and now I want to wear red all the time. It's definitely been a really tough journey but also such an amazing, fun journey because I've learned to be so confident in my skin and my body. You know, being a gymnast, our bodies are always being talked about. I've had to go through a lot of therapy and self-affirmations telling myself that 'I look beautiful today' and 'I'm the most confident I've ever been' just so that when I go out there and compete, I can have the best competition of my life. But now, actually, with the cameras zooming so close to my face and my skin, it gets me excited about my makeup. It's fun for us gymnasts to let people see what we do with our faces. Last year, we had so much fun at the Olympics, trying to have our looks reflect our personalities and just laughing and smiling on camera. l remember when I was a junior elite gymnast, I was on the Jumbotron, and I was cheering, 'Let's go!' And one of the girls next to me was like, 'Suni, don't do that.' They only wanted us to be serious and focused all the time. They didn't want us to have fun. Now, we want younger girls to see that you can compete on the biggest stage in the world and you can still have fun. I've been doing a lot of journaling and trying to keep all of my friendships really close. I feel like during this time—where I'm transitioning out of gymnastics and into different careers, being in a different city without my family and my friends—it's been a really hard change and a really big adjustment for me. So I've just been talking to them every day. A self-care day for me is just being at home, doing a face mask, taking a nice bath, eating a good meal, and watching TV to keep my mind at ease. I've been really into coloring lately. If I don't, then I'm just going to sit here in my thoughts, which isn't always the best. I like to do things to get myself out of the house. I try to make little goals for the day. I hate eating alone, so I'm gonna eat by myself today, or I'm gonna go on a walk just because I am a very introverted person. So I feel like my days are normally super calm, and when I'm not working, I like to just be at home and be at peace. I'm watching You right now. But I've also really been into Black Mirror. I love scary things. Crime solving too. Law and Order: SVU is my favorite show of all time. She's, like, the nicest person ever. My dream is to guest-star on the show. I feel like everything has changed so much. In New York, you walk the streets and you see the coolest people ever. Everyone's so chic and timeless. I used to wear the baggiest clothes everywhere. Sweatsuits all day every day. It's cold in Minnesota in the winter, and there's not a lot of distraction there, and I'm only there to train. So I'm like, What do I need to get dressed for? Now, I feel like I'm more of a sweater or a cardigan with a tee or tank top, some trousers, and a heeled boot. I love it so much because it gives me something to look forward to. Like, when I wake up, I'm like, Oh, let me put on a cute outfit today and just go for a walk. Like, you could literally wear heels to go for a walk or run errands in New York. It's so normal here, which is why I love it. In Minnesota, people would look at me like I'm trying so hard. My favorite place I've been was probably Medellín, Colombia. I went there because of gymnastics. It was the most beautiful city I've ever been to. I wish I could go back. The scenery was just so beautiful. But I have been dying to go to Thailand, and I'm actually going in July for three weeks. My parents have been, like, four times, and I haven't been able to go. I was never allowed to skip practice, so I've had to miss out on all the trips, but now I have the time, so we're gonna go for three weeks. I'll be with my sisters and my best friends. So it's gonna be so much fun. Check out all of Suni's favorite drugstore makeup products here. Lead image: Versace dress, Ariana Boussard-Reifel ring. Styled by Kaia Carioli.
