Physical therapist dies in nightmarish freak accident after his own hyperbaric chamber caught fire

Daily Mail11-07-2025
An Arizona physical therapist has died after the hyperbaric chamber at his clinic erupted into flames while he was inside it.
Dr Walter Foxcroft, 43, was killed Wednesday after a flash fire broke out inside his Havasu Health and Hyperbarics clinic just before 11pm.
The doctor's scorched body was found inside an oxygen therapy machine at his clinic, according to the Lake Havasu City Fire Department. No other injuries were reported in the incident.
A flash fire is a rapidly-spreading blaze that breaks out when a cloud of flammable gas, vapor or dust ignites and causes a fast-moving flame.
Hyperbaric chambers - sealed enclosures where barometric pressure is controlled by increasing air or oxygen - are highly flammable due to the high concentration of oxygen they contain.
Firefighters determined the facility was ventilated and checked for other flammable hazards before turning the case over to police and fire investigations.
The cause of the fatal fire remains under investigation.
Crews were called to Foxcroft's clinic in Lake Havasu City, near the Arizona- California border, at 10.50pm for reports of a person trapped inside a burning hyperbaric chamber.
By the time they arrived on scene, the building was already filled with smoke and flames were raging inside the oxygen treatment chamber.
Foxcroft was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear why he was inside the chamber so late at night.
The late doctor was a board-certified physical therapist with 27 years experience in the healthcare field, according to his clinic.
He was certified in hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which is used to treat a variety of health conditions including decompression sickness, carbon monoxide poisoning and non-healing wounds.
He was also trained in neurofeedback, photobiomodulation and spine mobilization.
Foxcroft earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Touro University Nevada in 2012, his LinkedIn profile states.
He founded his Havasu Health and Hyperbarics clinic just last year, which was the first-ever integrative naturopathic hyperbaric oxygen therapy center in the state, KARK reported at the time.
The practice will be closed until further notice while authorities investigate the blaze.
Before studying to become a physical therapist, Foxcroft attended the University of Arizona, graduating in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Physiological Sciences.
During his time at the university, he performed as the school mascot Wilbur T. Wildcat.
Arizona Cheerleaders & Mascots, in a heartfelt Instagram post, paid tribute to Foxcroft, saying: 'Wally was an unforgettable presence on the sidelines - an energetic, charismatic performer known for his signature moonwalk and passion for bringing joy to Arizona fans.
'He proudly returned for Homecoming, reconnecting with current mascots and sharing his spontaneous spirit as Wilbur with all of us.'
The team continued: 'Wally's dedication to uplifting others - through performance, healing, and innovation - will never be forgotten. Thank you, Wilbur, for the spirit, the showmanship, and the legacy you leave behind.'
After his stint as Wilbur, Foxcroft served as the mascot for the Arizona Cardinals and joined the team at Super Bowl XLIII in 2006.
He then returned to school to pursue physical therapy.

‘Overwhelmed' house with 400 guinea pigs discovered in LA

Volunteers from Southern California Guinea Pig Rescue (SCGPR) discovered over 400 guinea pigs living in unsanitary and overcrowded conditions at a hoarder's home in South Los Angeles. The property owner was facing eviction, and the animals, believed to have been left by a previous tenant, had bred uncontrollably, far exceeding initial estimates. Many of the rescued guinea pigs were found to be sick, injured, dehydrated, or malnourished, prompting SCGPR to appeal for public assistance with adoptions, fostering, or donations for their recovery and care. SCGPR expressed concern that the guinea pig population could reach nearly 1,000 by November if breeding continues, describing the situation as dire. The rescue group is urging city officials to fully investigate the case and improve systemic response protocols, disputing an LA Animal Services lieutenant's assessment that the animals were healthy.

Travis Kelce goes for solemn drive in LA while Taylor Swift helps her dad recover from shock heart surgery

Travis Kelce was pictured going for an evening drive around Los Angeles on Friday night while girlfriend Taylor Swift continued to help her father after his major heart surgery. Scott Swift, 73, is on the road to recovery after undergoing a quintuple bypass on his heart over a month ago after a doctor noticed something during a routine checkup. 'The doctor found something and everything happened so fast. But they took care of it,' an insider told the Daily Mail. 'Taylor has been so concerned with her mother's health struggles over the years that her focus was really only on her. Her dad was always in great shape.' Andrea Swift, 67, has weathered both brain and breast tumors. The Daily Mail learned on Thursday that, as the singer and her family rushed to Scott's bedside, it was Kelce who 'went into total caregiver mode'. Pictures showed the Kansas City Chiefs star driving around Los Angeles on Friday. It was unclear where he was going but he has been extremely present during Scott's health crisis. Whether it's been ordering takeout meals for Taylor - 'making sure she was eating' - or checking in personally on Scott following his surgery, it is understood that NFL star has really risen to the occasion. 'This was their first crisis together and Travis was doing everything right. If Taylor wasn't ready to marry him before, she sure is now. They were in love before, but now it seems unbreakable,' our insider said. And perhaps in the biggest show yet of that 'unbreakable' bond, it can also be revealed that Travis received a much-coveted phone notification... he was added to the Swift family group chat! Thankfully, the dad of two has made a speedy recovery, and a source close to Taylor has since told Daily Mail that Scott's recovery has so far been 'fantastic.' Throughout his recovery from surgery, both Swift, and her younger brother, Austin, were by his side during the scary time. Andrea, who he has been married to for 37 years, was also there to support him. Swift's rep told the outlet that his bypass surgery was not the result of a heart attack. The surgery is quite a major one, as it requires doctors to restore blood flow to certain areas of the heart. Swift has always been close to her parents, especially her father, as he's often seen at her concerts and even at football games to support her Kelce. The health scare comes at a bad time for Kelce, who is due to report for the Chiefs' training camp on Tuesday. Travis and the Chiefs begin their annual training camp in St Joseph, Missouri on July 22 and finish on August 13. They also have three pre-season games in the schedule against the Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks and Chicago Bears. Travis and brother Jason also announced this week there will be no new episodes of their smash-hit podcast 'New Heights' for the foreseeable future. Jason may be retired from the NFL but his younger brother is still active and will be unable to record while at training camp. As a result, the brothers will not be releasing new episodes of the show - which has 2.5 million subscribers on YouTube - for quite some time. In fact, a specific return date is yet to be confirmed by the duo as they prepare to turn their microphones off after next week's episode, which will be released on July 23. There are some pre-recorded interviews with special guests to come but there will be nothing new from the famous brothers. 'We have come to the end of the road,' Jason announced during this week's show.
