"Gegar Vaganza" winner Liza Aziz dismisses notion of "easy win"

Yahoo12-02-2025

12 Feb - Liza Aziz has dismissed the idea that it was an easy win for her when she was named the winner of the 11th season of "Gegar Vaganza", having faced challenges throughout the weeks leading to the finals.
The singer, who spoke to the media following her win, said that it was wrong to say that the songs given to her were all easy songs, as she had only a week to learn them just like the other contestants.
"Usually, I would listen to the song multiple times until I got it. I wouldn't have won by not doing my best. It wasn't easy to memorise the lyrics as well," she said.
Liza also stated that she didn't expect to win that night, and had thought it would go to Ning Baizura.
"All I know is that I would be happy enough to be able to do my best performance. But to win, that's a bonus. Praise be to God," she added.
Liza performed Celine Dion's "I Surrender" and the duet "Cinta" with Kris Dayanti at the finale held on 9 February.
The second place went to Ning Baizura, with Sheila Abdul winning third place.

‘Liza' is a captivating portrait. Why does she still feel elusive?

A friend of Liza Minnelli recalls asking the star whether she had enjoyed a dinner party. 'Oh, it was okay,' Minnelli replied. 'They wanted her' — meaning the hurricane of limbs with the saucer eyes gleaming under the spotlight, rather than the woman underneath. So, which version do viewers get from 'Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story'? After the documentary premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last June, Minnelli told People magazine that she planned to release a memoir, expected next spring from Grand Central Publishing. Among her inspirations, the 79-year-old cited 'a sabotaged appearance at the Oscars,' in 2022, and 'a film with twisted half-truths.' Presumably, she was referring to 'Liza,' which debuts Tuesday as part of the PBS American Masters series, though the film appears to have been made with Minnelli's enthusiastic involvement.

Lesley Chiang signs with LA talent agency after TVB departure

24 Mar - It seems Lesley Chiang is taking her career international just three months after leaving TVB! The actress and singer-songwriter has officially signed with Los Angeles-based talent agency Prestigious Powerhouse. The news was announced by the agency on 20 March with a couple of studio photos of the singer-actress, writing, "Lesley Chiang - Newly Signed, LA Theatrical. Lesley Chiang is a Canadian actress and singer songwriter, who is best known for her role as Liza in the Hong Kong sitcom "Come Home Love: Lo and Behold," for which she won the 2022 TVB Award for Breakthrough Star." "She starred in her first American role for the Amazon Prime limited series 'Expats'," the company added. It was back in December that the singer, who is also the daughter of veteran actor Paul Chun, revealed that she has ended her contract with TVB after seven years. "Throughout these years, I've had many exciting and challenging roles in acting, hosting, and singing. I've learned and grown a lot, and I'm forever grateful for the opportunities that came my way. As I step into the next chapter of my life, I'm filled with excitement for what's to come. I'll continue to pour my heart into my work as an actress and singer-songwriter. I really, really, really love what I do, and I feel so lucky to be able to chase my dreams!" she posted. (Photo Source: Lesley IG)
