Barcelona confirmed Lamine Yamal as the new No. 10 and also officially signed until 2031 with a €1 billion release clause and has a hometown mural.
Barcelona have officially confirmed that Lamine Yamal will wear the club's legendary No. 10 jersey starting from the 2025-26 season.
The move, long anticipated by fans and insiders alike, was finalized following Ansu Fati's loan move to Monaco, which includes an option to buy.
Yamal now steps into the shirt previously worn by club legends, including Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, and Diego Maradona, marking a major milestone in his meteoric rise at the club.

Yamal Signs New Long-Term Deal
Alongside the number switch, Yamal also formally signed his new contract, first agreed in May, which ties him to Barcelona until 2031. The deal features a €1 billion release clause, a clear indication of the club's commitment to the 18-year-old prodigy.
Now entering his third full senior season, Yamal is widely recognized as one of the most exciting attacking talents in world football, having delivered a breakout 2024-25 campaign.
To commemorate the milestone, a mural honoring Yamal has appeared in Rocafonda, his childhood neighborhood in Mataró. Rendered in striking graffiti with the iconic No. 10, the tribute has drawn praise from the local community and the club.
The mural, located in the 304 postcode, celebrates not only Yamal's footballing journey but also his deep-rooted connection to the area where he grew up.
A Quiet but Symbolic Announcement
Barcelona had originally planned a grand reveal—combining the contract renewal, jersey number change, and official shirt launch. However, concerns that public celebrations could stir controversy led the club to opt for a private ceremony at the Ciutat Esportiva.
The event was attended by club president Joan Laporta, sporting director Deco, and Yamal's family. The choice to keep things subdued reflects Barcelona's careful strategy in managing Yamal's rising profile.
Interestingly, the new Barça jersey was initially launched without a No. 10—prompting fans to wonder whether they could customize it. This delay was part of the club's decision to ensure that Yamal's transition to the No. 10 shirt is symbolic, controlled, and respectful of both legacy and future expectations.

Barcelona Delays Camp Nou Return, Citing Licensing Issues! New Date Is...

Last Updated: Barcelona postponed their return to Camp Nou, initially set for August, due to difficulties in obtaining a partial opening license. Barcelona postponed their return to Camp Nou, originally scheduled for August, extending the stadium's reopening further. The club had intended to host a friendly match on August 10 as their first game back after two years of construction, but cited difficulties in obtaining a partial opening license as the reason for the delay. Barcelona announced that the initial match at the Spotify Camp Nou has been suspended. Due to the extensive work completed, meeting the regulations for the first occupancy license proved impossible, despite the club's desire to open sections of the stadium. The first match at Camp Nou is now planned for a La Liga game against Valencia on September 13 or 14, with Barcelona's first three league matches being played away from home. However, the club did not confirm if the stadium will be ready for this fixture or possibly a home Champions League tie beforehand. The friendly match, reported to be against Italian side Como, will now be held at the Johan Cruyff stadium next to the training ground. Barcelona have been playing at the Olympic Stadium on Montjuic hill for the past two seasons during the Camp Nou redevelopment. Initially, Barcelona aimed to return to Camp Nou in November 2024 to celebrate the club's 125th anniversary, but the stadium's opening has faced repeated delays. The stadium's capacity will be around 60,000 until the work is completed next summer, eventually expanding to 105,000 seats. The Camp Nou rebuild project is estimated to cost Barcelona 1.5 billion euros ($1.75 billion). What Did Barcelona Say About Camp Nou? 'This decision is due to the fact that the necessary work to comply with the requirements of the Ordinance Regulating Municipal Intervention Procedures in Construction Works has made it impossible to complete the procedures required for the granting of the initial licence," Barcelona said in a statement. 'Specifically, due to the scale of the work carried out, it has not been possible to meet all the conditions laid out by the regulations governing this licence, despite the club's intention to reopen the redeveloped stadium sector by sector. 'The club is liaising closely with Barcelona City Council and the relevant authorities to make progress on the different requirements and will inform its members and fans of any new developments regarding the return date. This delay does not affect the planned schedule for the repayment of the Espai Barca debt," the club's statement added. view comments First Published: July 18, 2025, 23:36 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Barcelona's planned Camp Nou return in August delayed

La Liga champion FC Barcelona said on Friday that the Joan Gamper Trophy match on August 10 has been suspended due to construction delays at the revamped Camp Nou stadium. Barcelona's match against Como in the Joan Gamper Trophy will be the first match set to be held at the new Camp Nou. 'This decision is due to the fact that the necessary work to comply with the requirements of the Ordinance Regulating Municipal Intervention Procedures in Construction Works has made it impossible to complete the procedures required for the granting of the initial licence,' the club said in a statement.
