
HM King approves Sunni and Ja'afari Endowments reform
His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa issued Decree (28) of 2025 amending certain provisions of Decree (6) of 1985 regarding the organisation of the Sunni and Ja'afari Endowments Council and their administration, based on a proposal by the Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments and following the approval of the Cabinet.
According to the decree, Article 8 of Decree (6) of 1985 shall be replaced with: 'Each of the two general endowments directorates shall be headed by a Director General who is not a member of either council, and shall be appointed by Royal Decree. The Director General shall oversee administrative and financial affairs within the directorate, prepare the council's agenda in coordination with the council chairman, and serve as secretary to the council personally or through a designated employee. The Director General shall not have voting rights in council deliberations but shall be responsible for implementing its decisions.'
The term 'General Directorate of Endowments' shall replace 'Directorate of Endowments' in Article 4 of Decree (6) of 1985.
The term 'two General Directorates of Endowments' shall replace 'Directorates of the Sunni and Ja'afari Endowments Councils' in Article 7 of the same decree.
The term 'General Directorate of Endowments' shall replace 'Directorate' in Article 11 of the same decree.
Article 10 of Decree (6) of 1985 shall be repealed.
The Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments shall implement the provisions of this decree, which takes effect upon issuance and shall be published in the Official Gazette.

Bahrain's pioneering alternative sentencing model is influencing justice reform efforts across the Arab region, legal and law enforcement experts said at the First International Conference on Alternative Sentencing. Transition Egypt's former Interior Minister, Major General Ahmed Gamal El Din, noted that his country is transitioning from traditional incarceration to rehabilitation-focused facilities equipped with modern healthcare, drug treatment programmes, and educational services. He emphasised the role of technology in administering alternative sanctions while protecting public security and individual rights. Brigadier General Osama Majed Al-Majed, Assistant Director General of Kuwait's General Directorate of Correctional Institutions, outlined recent legal reforms in his country, including the new Domestic Violence Law and Alternative Sentencing Law No. 5 of 2025. These laws promote community service and rehabilitation as judicial alternatives, aiming to reduce reoffending and support reintegration. Collaboration He also called for continued regional collaboration in shaping responsive legal frameworks. Colonel Dr. Ali Al-Zuabi from the UAE Ministry of Interior shared the UAE's preventive justice strategy, which focuses on crime deterrence through advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and smart surveillance systems. Italy marks Republic Day with reception in Manama
The Embassy of Italy in Bahrain held a reception to mark the 79th anniversary of the Italian Republic, attended by ministers, diplomats and senior government figures. Among the guests were Justice Minister, His Excellency Nawaf Al Ma'awda, Sustainable Development Minister Noor Al Khulaif, and the President of Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) H.E. Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. Also present were H.E. Ambassador Dr Shaikha Munira bint Khalifa bin Hamad Al Khalifa, director-general of the Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa Academy for Diplomatic Studies, and H.E. Ambassador Shaikh Abdulla bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, who oversees bilateral affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. H.E.
