Gas Malaysia unveils Malaysia's first centralised biomethane injection station

Published on: Tue, May 20, 2025 Text Size: Pic by Muhd Amin Naharul/The Malaysian Reserve KLUANG: Gas Malaysia Berhad, via its subsidiary Gas Malaysia Green Ventures (GMGV), has launched Malaysia's first marking a major step in the nation's green energy transition. Officiated by Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, the facility will channel biomethane from nearby palm oil mills into the natural gas grid, supporting Malaysia's National Energy Policy, NETR, and the National Biomass Action Plan. Chairman Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee highlighted the initiative as part of Gas Malaysia's GM32 Strategy to drive cleaner energy solutions. The biomethane produced will be ISCC-certified, aiding industrial partners in meeting sustainability targets and supporting a circular economy. The event also saw recognitions from the Malaysian Book of Records, a financing deal with AmBank, and a green tech collaboration with Evonik. The facility is expected to be operational in the second half of 2025.

'Most of them are on contract,' he told reporters briefly in Dengkil, Selangor, today. Advertisement He was asked to comment on the national oil and gas company's announcement that it intends to reduce its headcount by more than 5,000 people, and to freeze hiring until December 2026. The retrenchment plan is part of a company-wide restructuring as Petronas looks to reduce costs due to falling crude prices. Petronas president and group CEO Tengku Muhammad Taufik Aziz was reported as saying yesterday that the company sets its budget based on Brent crude oil priced at around US$75 to US$80 per barrel. The global benchmark is currently trading near US$65, down about 13% this year, as trade tensions threaten global growth and OPEC+ restores production. Petronas's net income slid 32% in 2024 after a 21% drop in 2023. Separately, Anwar said he will contact Thai prime minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra this afternoon to discuss the Thai-Cambodia border dispute. 'We will release a statement after that,' he said. Thailand and Cambodia have seen military clashes since 2008, resulting in at least 28 deaths. Cocoa Board looks towards Sabah interior

KENINGAU: The Malaysian Cocoa Board (MCB) will continue to play an active role in supporting the development of the country's cocoa industry, particularly in Sabah's Interior region. Its Chairman Datuk Matbali Musah, said various initiatives are being implemented, including the Cocoa Farm Rehabilitation Programme, agricultural input assistance, research on superior cocoa varieties, and technical guidance for farmers. Advertisement He said these efforts are important to ensure that the dried cocoa beans produced meet high quality standards, thereby increasing market value and enhancing Malaysia's reputation in the international cocoa market. Matbali, who is also the Member of Parliament for Sipitang, said this while officiating the Cocoa Cluster Strengthening Programme for the Interior Zone of Sabah held here, on Thursday. Organised by the MCB, the programme brought together more than 200 participants from various zones, including Keningau, Tenom, Sook, Tambunan, and Nabawan. 'This is a proud achievement because we are not only sharing knowledge but also fostering a sense of unity among the cocoa community in Sabah,' he said. Matbali also stressed the importance of good agricultural practices, sustainable pest and disease management, and the adoption of the latest cocoa farming technologies. He said MCB hopes cocoa farmers in Sabah will take further steps by joining cooperatives and becoming involved in downstream processing, including the production of locally made chocolate products. He expressed confidence that with support from entities such as Koperasi Koko Kluster Sabah Berhad, the cocoa industry holds great potential to stimulate the local economy and attract interest from rural youth. MPOB TOT 2025 to drive palm tech commercialisation for industry, MSMEs
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Palm Oil Board Oil Palm Transfer of Technology Programme 2025 (TOT MPOB 2025) is set to offer commercialisation opportunities for palm-based technologies to industry players, local companies, as well as micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani will officiate the MPOB's annual flagship event, which will be held in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor. More than 500 participants comprising oil palm industry players, MSME operators and stakeholders interested in technology commercialisation are expected to attend. TOT MPOB 2025 presents commercialisation opportunities for technologies developed by MPOB researchers across various segments of the oil palm value chain. Scheduled for June 19, the event will feature upstream technologies such as elite planting materials, artificial intelligence (AI) applications in plantations and integrated pest management techniques. In the midstream sector, processing and milling technologies for industrial application will be showcased, while downstream offerings will include formulations for personal care products, health food and animal feed. "Industry participation in the TOT programme offers access to new technologies and innovations within the palm oil production chain, along with opportunities to explore research and commercial collaborations, intellectual property protection through technology licensing, and engagement in a sustainable palm innovation ecosystem," said MPOB director general Datuk Dr Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir. He added that the event will carry a special theme in conjunction with MPOB's 25th anniversary since its establishment on May 1, 2000. He said MPOB will showcase technologies developed over the past 25 years that are aligned with industry needs and commercialisation potential.
