Watch: Yashasvi Jaiswal Dances In Front Of English Crowd After Dropping 4 Catches
Last Updated:
Yashasvi Jaiswal had a mixed outing in his first Test on English soil that saw him drop as many as four catches after scoring a century.
Yashasvi Jaiswal may have enjoyed adulation during his debut Test innings on English soil having scored a brilliant century but by the end of the contest, the fans turned on him. Jaiswal scored 101 off 159 after India were put in to bat first in the first Test at Headingley that concluded with their five-wicket defeat to England on Tuesday. While India's batting collapses and listless bowling took the brunt of crticisim, their fielding also came under severe scrutiny.
Through the course of the five days, India dropped as many as eight catches that allowed England to limit the first innings deficit to just six runs and left a toiling Jasprit Bumrah frustrated. It was Bumrah's brilliance that despite the lack of support from his fielding unit, he managed to take a five-for in England's first dig.
Four of these catches were dropped by Jaiswal who had a nightmare on the field.
While he was facing the heat from fans for his poor catching, the ended irking them even further after dancing for the English crowd even as India were hurtling towards a record defeat on Day 5.
And fans took to social media to vent their ire.

India endured a second lower-order batting collapse in the series opener which meant England were left chasing 371, a target they achieved in some style to take 1-0 lead in the five-match series. India became the first team in Test history to lose a match despite hitting five centuries – two from Rishabh Pant and on each from KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Jaiswal.
The Gill-led side thus began their campaign in the latest ICC World Test Championship cycle with a defeat. The tourists now have a week to recover from the loss and plot their comeback at Edgbaston – the venue of the second Test.

Kuldeep could be the X-factor for India: Ex-ENG cricketer Monty Panesar
Former England spinner Monty Panesar has suggested that India should consider replacing Shardul Thakur with Kuldeep Yadav for the second Test against England in Birmingham, where spin is expected to play a more significant role. India suffered a defeat in the opening Test at Headingley as England successfully chased 371, powered by Ben Duckett's 149. 'Kuldeep could be the X-factor for India' Panesar believes Edgbaston's pitch offers enough spin for India to benefit from playing both Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, with the latter bringing a much-needed attacking edge. 'Kuldeep could be the X-factor India need. The surface in Birmingham does tend to help spinners, and Kuldeep has the ability to trouble batters even without much turn,' Panesar told PTI. Kuldeep's record backs up Panesar's point, the left-arm wrist-spinner has 56 wickets in 13 Tests at an average of 22.16. Comparatively, Thakur has claimed 33 wickets from 12 Tests with a higher average and strike rate. Thakur's limited contribution with both bat and ball at Leeds, including 2 wickets for 89 runs in 16 overs, raises questions about his current value in English conditions. Panesar argued that if Thakur isn't going to bowl extended spells, his inclusion makes little sense. While some may debate replacing Jadeja with Kuldeep, Panesar believes the better option would be to field both spinners, Jadeja as the containing bowler and Kuldeep as the strike option. 'Jadeja bowls quickly and economically, but Kuldeep brings a real threat. However, Kuldeep can't really be used to contain. That's why India might opt for two spinners, with Jadeja playing the holding role and Kuldeep going on the attack,' said Panesar. Panesar, who played a crucial role in England's 2012 Test series victory in India, concluded that Kuldeep's current form and ability to challenge batters on flatter pitches should earn him a spot in the XI for the second Test.

IND vs ENG: 'It is going to sting' — Rishabh Pant reacts after heartbreaking loss at Headingley
Rishabh Pant of India (Photo by) Even as England pulled off a remarkable five-wicket win in the opening Test at Headingley, India's Rishabh Pant walked away with a record that will go down in history. In a bittersweet moment, Pant became the first Indian wicketkeeper to score centuries in both innings of a Test match, an extraordinary feat that stood out in an otherwise forgettable outing for India. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Pant posted on X after the loss: "It is going to sting us for a while but we BELIEVE in bouncing back stronger." The message reflected both the pain and the resolve within the Indian camp after letting a golden opportunity slip away. Pant was India's heartbeat with the bat throughout the match. After scoring a fluent 134 in the first innings, the southpaw returned on Day 4 under immense pressure and counterattacked his way to 118 in the second, bringing up his second century of the match in just 130 balls. With this, he entered an elite club of Indian batters—Gavaskar, Dravid, Kohli, among others who've notched tons in both innings of a Test. More impressively, Pant became only the second wicketkeeper in Test historyafter Zimbabwe's Andy Flower in 2001—to achieve this feat. India Outplayed at Headingley | England Go 1-0 Up in the Series | IND vs ENG 1st Test His attacking style was once again on full display, particularly against young spinner Shoaib Bashir, whom Pant swept, reverse-swept, and charged at with unflinching intent. He also surpassed MS Dhoni to become the highest run-scoring Indian wicketkeeper in Tests on English soil. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Quiz: Who's that IPL player? India had posted 471 and 364, and set England a daunting target of 371. But Ben Duckett 's explosive 149, Root's calm 53*, and a late flourish from Jamie Smith proved too much. Despite the heartbreak, Pant's heroics gave India a fighting chance and reminded the world of his rising stature in the Test arena. Now with four Tests to go, India will look to bounce back, and if Pant's words and form are any indication, they'll do it with fire. Game On Season 1 kicks off with Sakshi Malik's inspiring story. India Told To Drop Shardul Thakur And Pick X-Factor Spinner: 'Doesn't Need...'
Last Updated: Monty Panesar suggests India replace Shardul Thakur with Kuldeep Yadav for the second Test in Birmingham. Former England spinner Monty Panesar believes it's time for India to replace seam-bowling allrounder Shardul Thakur with Kuldeep Yadav in the second Test in Birmingham, where spin is expected to play a more significant role. India suffered a loss in the first Test on Tuesday at Leeds, as the hosts successfully chased down a challenging target of 371 runs on the final day, thanks to a brilliant 149 by opener Ben Duckett. 'At Edgbaston, India could probably play (Ravindra) Jadeja and could actually go for the X-factor spinner in Kuldeep Yadav…we know that the Edgbaston wicket does turn a little bit. So you have that bit of an X-factor, which I think would be a better option. There's something about him," Panesar told PTI. Panesar, who played a crucial role in England's last Test series win in India in 2012, feels the statistics strongly favour Kuldeep. The left-arm wrist-spinner has taken 56 wickets in just 13 Tests at an impressive average of 22.16. In contrast, Thakur has 33 wickets in 12 Tests at a higher average of 29.36 and a strike rate of 46.8. 'He doesn't need turning tracks. This IPL showed that even without exaggerated turn, he can bowl tough lines that make life difficult for batters," he added. Thakur bowled just 16 overs, taking two wickets while conceding 89 runs in the first Test at Leeds and failed to make a significant impact with the bat, raising questions about his all-round value on English pitches that are no longer offering much seam movement. 'If Shardul Thakur is only going to bowl six to eight overs and not give you 15 overs in the day, there's no point in playing him," Panesar pointed out. When asked if India should pick Kuldeep instead of Jadeja, Panesar did not hesitate. 'I think they need to play Kuldeep because he has more of an X-factor. There's something about him. Jadeja bowls too quickly. So I think, yeah, they need to bring in Kuldeep Yadav instead of Jadeja. He becomes the main attacking option," he said. However, Panesar acknowledged that India might be reluctant to play only one spinner, especially given Jadeja's ability to contain runs. 'I just think India won't go with that. Because India likes a defensive spinner. And they can then use Kuldeep. Because Kuldeep can't defend. He only attacks. So if he goes the distance, then they're in deep trouble," he said. 'So I think they will probably play two spinners. Jadeja can then be the defensive guy. And then Kuldeep will be the attacking guy," added Panesar, who represented England in 50 Tests, 26 ODIs, and one T20I. With PTI Inputs First Published: June 25, 2025, 11:35 IST
