NDP 2025: Fighter jets form diamonds in the sky in honour of Singapore's diamond jubilee
Every moment in the airborne showcase of teamwork and technical skill symbolised each of the six decades of Singapore's journey of resilience and unity.
SINGAPORE - Eyes turned skywards as the thunder of jet engines shook the air above the packed Padang, which rippled with excitement.
Streaks of smoke and the gleam of fighter jets cut through the cloudy skies , as the Republic of Singapore Air Force unleashed its capabilities in an aerial display on Aug 9 at National Day Parade (NDP) 2025.
At a couple of key moments, fighter jets shot through the sky in a diamond formation, in honour of Singapore's 60th birthday.
Raising the ante, the RSAF staged a multi-axis fly-past for the first time, sending out six F-15SG jets to zoom in from two directions – half from Marina Bay, the other from above the National Gallery – criss-crossing on three different axes.

Minutes later, six F-15SG fighter jets roared overhead in an arrow-shaped formation as they saluted the nation with a 'bomb burst' manoeuvre – where the aircraft soar upwards before splitting off in different directions, mimicking the explosion of a bomb. Following closely behind were four F-16 jets in a diamond formation.

Two specially choreographed aerial displays, done in honour of SG60, wowed the crowd.
The first saw six F-15SG jets flying in an arrowhead formation. Then, in unison, the two outermost jets peeled away to rocket in almost-vertical climbs that left a trail of white smoke in the sky, as the remaining four jets held steady in a diamond formation.
The second special display featured four F-16 fighters performing a complex diamond cross turn manoeuvre. The jets flew alongside one another in a diamond formation before splitting off in different directions with perfect timing and precision.
The action overhead continued during the mobile column segment – the action on land seamlessly integrated for the first time with an aerial flypast featuring 22 aircraft flying in four striking formations.
The crowd excitedly waved their flags, as six F-15SG jets thundered in from opposite directions and crossed paths overhead before climbing almost vertically, kicking off the integrated segment.
Land vehicles and aircraft took turns to command attention: An array of vehicles from the Singapore Armed Forces and Home Team rumbled on the ground, while an A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport plane, four F-16 fighters, and one G550 airborne early warning aircraft flew above them.
Then came the choppers' turn to thrill the audience. An S-70B Seahawk, two Apache attack helicopters, two H225M medium-lift helicopters and a CH-47 heavy lift helicopter made up the helicopter fly-past.

The aerial segment closed with a transport formation fly-past, featuring two C-130 Hercules aircraft – the same plane that carries the Red Lions parachutists during their iconic free-fall jumps.

Typically unseen as these aircraft fly high above the skies, the Hercules planes flew in low alongside two Fokker 50 transport aircraft, giving the audience a close-up view of these workhorses.
After the aerial extravaganza ended, generations of servicemen and women rode down St. Andrew's Road in various land vehicles saluting the crowd, marking the start of the evening show.

Trump vows to evict homeless from Washington, official says National Guard may be deployed, World News
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump pledged on Sunday (Aug 10) to evict homeless people from the nation's capital and jail criminals, despite Washington's mayor arguing there is no current spike in crime. While details of the plan were unclear, the administration is preparing to deploy hundreds of National Guard troops to Washington, a US official told Reuters, a controversial tactic Trump used recently in Los Angeles to tackle immigration protests over the objections of local officials. Trump has not made a final decision, the official said, adding that the number of troops and their role are still being determined. Unlike in California and every other state, where the governor typically decides when to activate Guard troops, the president directly controls the National Guard in Washington, DC. Past instances of the Guard's deployment in the city include in response to the Jan 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol by a mob of Trump supporters. "The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY," Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. "We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital. The Criminals, you don't have to move out. We're going to put you in jail where you belong." The White House declined to explain what legal authority Trump would use to evict people from Washington. The Republican president controls only federal land and buildings in the city. Trump plans to hold a press conference on Monday to "stop violent crime in Washington, DC." It was not clear whether he would announce more details of his eviction plan then. There are 3,782 single persons experiencing homelessness on any given night in the city of about 700,000, says the Community Partnership, an organisation working to reduce homelessness in DC. Most such individuals are in emergency shelters or transitional housing, rather than on the street, it says. A White House official said on Friday more federal law enforcement officers were being deployed in the city following a violent attack on a young administration staffer that angered the president. Alleged crimes investigated by federal agents on Friday night included "multiple persons carrying a pistol without license," motorists driving on suspended licenses and dirt bike riding, a White House official said on Sunday. The official said 450 federal law enforcement officers were deployed across the city on Saturday. The city's police department says violent crime was down 26 per cent in DC in the first seven months of 2025, compared with last year, while overall crime was down about seven per cent. The Democratic mayor of Washington, DC, Muriel Bowser, said on Sunday the capital was "not experiencing a crime spike." "It is true that we had a terrible spike in crime in 2023, but this is not 2023," Bowser said on MSNBC's the Weekend. "We have spent over the last two years driving down violent crime in this city, driving it down to a 30-year low." Bowser said Trump was "very aware" of the city's work with federal law enforcement after meeting him several weeks ago in the Oval Office. The US Congress has control of DC's budget after the district was established in 1790 with land from neighbouring Virginia and Maryland, but resident voters elect a mayor and city council. 79 arrested, over 3kg of heroin seized in 5-day drug blitz

SINGAPORE - A total of 79 people were arrested in a five-day drug bust where a total of almost 3.5kg of heroin was seized, among other drugs. In a statement on Aug 11, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said that the anti-drug blitz took place from Aug 4 to 8, and covered areas like Ang Mo Kio, Bukit Batok, Jurong, Pasir Ris, Tampines and Yishun. The drugs seized are 3,457g of heroin, 909g of Ice (methamphetamine), 3g of cannabis, 5 Ecstasy tablets, 5 Erimin-5 tablets and 1 bottle of GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate). Anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of diamorphine, or pure heroin, or 250g of methamphetamine may face the mandatory death penalty. The drugs are estimated to be worth more than S$470,000, and the heroin, Ice and cannabis seized could feed the addiction of 2,160 abusers for a week, CNB said. Among the 79 arrested were five suspected drug traffickers, including four Malaysians, who were nabbed in raids where the bulk of the heroin and Ice were seized. Separately, CNB officers arrested a Singaporean man, 53, a Malaysian man, 39, and a Malaysian woman, 43, near Jurong West and Henderson Road early on Aug 6, following a tip off. The Malaysian man was found with 60g of Ice and key cards to a hotel near Geylang, said CNB. CNB then raided the hotel rooms and found a total of about 1,421g of heroin, 62g of Ice and drug paraphernalia. Later on Aug 6, CNB arrested a 28-year-old Malaysian man near Tampines for suspected drug offences, in a follow-up operation. Investigations are ongoing.
