MP bus tragedy that killed over 60: Rewa court acquits all three accused 19 years later
Judicial Magistrate First Class Panna Nagesh on Friday acquitted Ajay Pratap Singh (52), Ramesh Tiwari (42) and Shriniwas Tiwari (60), the owner and conductors of the bus, due to lack of evidence.
On October 19, 2006, the bus with registration number MKA 3163 plunged into Govindgarh pond when it was on its way to Rewa from Jigna. Among those killed was the driver.
Rewa, Jun 1 (PTI) A court in Rewa in Madhya Pradesh gave 'benefit of doubt' and acquitted three persons in connection with the 2006 Govindgarh bus tragedy in which more than 60 occupants of the vehicle were killed.
The court observed that it could not be proved with the prosecution's evidence that the bus was being driven rashly and recklessly at the time of the incident.
Furthermore, the driver of the bus too had died in the accident, the court pointed out.
'Under these circumstances, it could not be found that the accused had any role in running the bus without registration on the day of the accident,' the court said while acquitting the trio under Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act.
Their lawyer Rajiv Singh Shera said the prosecution failed to prove whether the bus had valid fitness and permit documents.
'As a result, the court acquitted the owner and conductors,' he said. PTI COR LAL BNM

Allahabad HC stays arrest of music producer Sunil Yadav in kidnapping case
According to the prosecution, Anupama was in love with Sunil Yadav, and they were going to get married in April this year. A two-judge bench comprising Justice Siddhartha and Justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra also issued notice to Sushmita Yadav, a sister of the alleged victim, Anupama Yadav. Prayagraj, Jun 3 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court has stayed the arrest of music producer Sunil Yadav, who was booked allegedly for kidnapping a woman whom he had signed for an album, a court official said on Tuesday. On February 19, Sunil Yadav came to Anupama's house and said he had to go to Nepal for wedding shopping. He took Anupama in a car, a Mahindra Scorpio. After two hours, Surya Kumar Yadav, Sunil's brother, got a call from Anupama, who told him Sunil was not taking her to Nepal, but to Bihar. After the call, her mobile phone became unavailable. On February 22, around 9 am, Sunil Yadav told Sushmita over the phone that Anupama was not with him. Sushmita has since alleged that Sunil Yadav has either sold her sister, aged 25, or murdered her. Sunil Yadav alleged that the two sisters ran a blackmail racket. According to his counsel, Sunil Yadav had given Anupama a role in an album and paid her around Rs 6 lakh. But she refused to work on the album, and subsequently fabricated the kidnapping story, he claimed. On February 23, Sunil Yadav was booked under sections 87 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing a woman to compel her marriage, etc) of BNS at the Kotwali Police Station in Deoria district. 2 held in Rs 24 cr investment fraud linked to online grocery app
1 2 Hyderabad: Hyderabad's central crime station (CCS) police have arrested two individuals in connection with a ₹24.3 crore investment fraud case, originally registered in April 2024. The prime accused, Mukesh Chowdhary, 33, founder of Urban Market, an online grocery application, and Amit Kumar Pilania, 31, a businessman from Pune who was initially the complainant in the case, were apprehended by CCS officials from Malakpet on May 30. According to the investigation, the accused collected large sums from multiple investors during 2023–24, falsely promising business returns through the Urban Market platform. Notably, Pilania—who had initially filed a complaint against Mukesh—was later found to be an active participant in the scheme. This revelation came after a thorough review of Registrar of Companies (ROC) filings and bank transaction records. In his original complaint, Pilania claimed to have known Mukesh for over 20 years and alleged that, at Mukesh's request, he invested more than ₹15 lakh in the business. He further accused Mukesh of operating the business in his name and continuously demanding additional funds. The case was first registered at Malakpet police station on March 18, 2024, under sections 417 (cheating), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. It was subsequently transferred to the CCS and re-registered on April 27, 2024, under the same sections. During the investigation, CCS officials found that Pilania was not just a victim but also complicit in defrauding investors. Several genuine victims later approached the police, reporting collective losses amounting to ₹24.3 crore from the fraudulent investment scheme associated with the Urban Market app. As a result, police also invoked section 5 of the Telangana Protection of Depositors of Financial Establishments Act, and arrested both accused from Malakpet. They were produced in court and remanded in judicial custody on May 31. The CCS continues to investigate the case to identify other victims and additional collaborators involved in the fraud.
