Years before she shared screen space with Salman Khan in Veer (2010), actress Zareen Khan was just another Bollywood fan. And now, a viral video from 2008 has taken the internet by storm — one where a glowing, visibly thrilled Zareen is seen taking Katrina Kaif's autograph at the Race premiere.
The clip, posted recently on Zareen's Instagram, captures a full-circle moment. In the caption, she writes, 'Oh my God! Watching this video brings back such fresh memories. I remember this moment so well… This was the premiere of the film Race. A big thank you to a friend who got us the passes. Back then, I was just a wide-eyed fan, never imagined I'd be part of the industry someday.'
She continues, 'But look at how happy I am in this video—completely fangirling, grinning ear to ear, getting an autograph from someone I found so beautiful.'
Before the big break
Interestingly, Race released in 2008—two years before Zareen's Bollywood debut opposite Salman Khan in Veer. The clip not only highlights the unpredictability of destiny but also Zareen's genuine admiration for Kaif, whom many had initially compared her to.
Hailing from a Pathan family, Zareen studied at Rizvi College of Science. Post her 12th, she took up a call centre job while juggling modelling assignments. Her dream, however, was to join an airline—until her weight became a roadblock.
A chance encounter with Salman Khan
Motivated to lose weight, she eventually slimmed down. One day, while visiting the set of Yuvvraaj, she caught Salman Khan's attention. Impressed, he offered her the lead role in Veer, marking her Bollywood debut in 2010.
Later, she also featured in the popular song Character Dheela from Ready and played a key role in Housefull 2. She expanded her career across Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi cinema with films like Jatt James Bond, Hate Story 3, and Nan Rajavaga Pogiren.
The journey continues
Zareen was last seen in Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele alongside Anshuman Jha. Her journey from the red carpet of Race as a fan to carving a space of her own in the film industry is a heartening reminder: dreams do come true—sometimes, just after an autograph.

On the compassions with Katrina Kaif 'Life after Veer was very bad for me, I got a lot of criticism. The film was a life-changing moment for me. For me, who used to be overweight, being compared to Katrina was huge, but it all backfired.' 'I felt like a lost child in the industry, plus there was hesitation. About 'Sitaare Zameen Par' 'Sitaare Zameen Par' is yet another masterpiece given by Mr. Perfectionist. The story sees a brash basketball coach who faces suspension for hiting the head coach. Not just this, he has other legal woes as well, and as an alternative to jail time, he is asked to serve community service. This service entailed the task of coaching a team of neurodivergent athletes, and from there, the real magic began. Directed by RS Prasanna, the film sees Genelia D'Souza alongside Aamir Khan. Further, there are 10 new faces that made their debut in the movie: Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Samvit Desai, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar. 'Sitaare Zameen Par' review With a rating of 3 stars, an excerpt from the TOI review reads - 'Despite a sensitive and layered subject, R S Prasanna's directorial venture, written by Divy Nidhi Sharma, remains a wholesome, feel-good watch. It strikes a commendable balance between delivering a message and educating viewers about ID, all with a lighthearted touch. At its core is a message of inclusivity—conveying that people with ID are employable, independent, full of life, and deeply empathetic. The film sensitively portrays the characteristic traits of the players' conditions without reducing them to labels—Bantu's (Vedant Sharma) stimming through ear-scratching, Guddu's (GopiKrishnan K Verma) aquaphobia, Sharmaji's (Rishi Shahani) speech impairment, and the less-recognised invisible autism in high-functioning Hargovind (Naman Misra). These are presented as facets of their personalities, not just symptoms.'

Indian Gen Zs Are Throwing Fake Weddings For Fun, Here's All About This OTT Party Trend

Last Updated: The Gen Z has moved away from the done and overdone cliche club nights. The hottest party trend they have started instead is a fake wedding party. Forget club nights and sundowner parties – the Gen Z in India has a knack for doing 'hatke' things, and this latest party trend is yet another proof. Gen Z has found a new way to party, and it's as extra as it is oddly wholesome. Welcome to the era of fake weddings. It's the newest trend where groups of friends throw a full-blown shaadi celebration, minus the actual bride and groom. What started as a quirky trend abroad has now found its glittering Indian avatar. Think: mandap setups, baraat-style entries, choreographed sangeet performances, wedding invites, a fake pandit, and yes, even a dhol wala for dramatic effect. At the heart of it is a simple idea: everyone loves the joy of Indian weddings, so why wait for someone to get married? A Wedding Without the Drama For Gen Z, who grew up watching grand Bollywood weddings and endless shaadi reels on Instagram, the fake wedding trend offers a chance to celebrate without the stress, family politics, or actual lifelong commitment. The idea is to dress up in your lehengas and sherwanis, dance your heart out, toast to love, and party like it's your own wedding (just without the future in-laws). What Is The Vibe? Fake weddings are over-the-top, deeply ironic, and designed for the 'Gram. You'll spot hashtags like #NotActuallyMarried and #ShaadiForTheVibe under Reels showing everything from haldi moments in Airbnb gardens to full buffet spreads featuring chaat counters and mocktails. What started as a fun party trend among Gen Z has now found many takers. Event management companies and even bars are hosting fake wedding parties with paid entry and food. In a world where traditional milestones are being delayed or redefined, this trend gives young people a way to embrace celebration on their own terms. It's campy, chaotic, and community-driven: exactly what Gen Z does best. So, if you see someone in a sherwani doing bhangra at a farmhouse on the outskirts of your city or in a bar with no actual bride in sight, don't be confused. It's probably just another Saturday night in Gen Z style. First Published: July 06, 2025, 17:50 IST
