Steve Clarke names Scotland team to take on Iceland in Hampden friendly
Scotland boss Steve Clarke has named his starting line-up as the national team prepare to take on Iceland at Hampden.
Friday's friendly is the country's first game since the Nations League playoff defeat to Greece back in March.
It is the first of a double header ahead of Monday's match in Liechtenstein.
Scotland start with Angus Gunn in goals behind a defence of Max Johnston, John Souttar, Grant Hanley, Kieran Tierney and captain Andy Robertson.
Napoli Serie A winning duo Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour are beside Bologna skipper Lewis Ferguson and John McGinn in midfield, with George Hirst leading the line in his first start.
Sturm Graz right back Johnston also makes his first start, after winning his first cap from the bench in the game against Greece in Athens.
With World Cup qualifiers on the horizon, Clarke will be aiming to get his side back to winning ways against Iceland.
The journey towards North America, where the World Cup will be held in 2026, begins in Denmark on September 5.

Henderson began his career with hometown club Sunderland and was at Wembley to see the Black Cats beat Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final to secure a £200million return to the top-flight last month. He has been told by Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel that there is a place for him in England's World Cup squad next summer if he can maintain his form and fitness - and he started against Andorra on Saturday. Henderson's experience would be invaluable for Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris to call on - although whether the Wearside club would match the money he earns in Holland remains to be seen. Ajax moved on Liverpool to make Heitinga their new coach after sacking Francesco Farioli for a dramatic late-season collapse that cost them the Eredivisie title. Heitinga, who joined Arne Slot 's backroom staff at Anfield last year, has already arranged the return of former Southampton winger Dusan Tadic to the Johan Cruyff Arena - and the belief is that the Serb will replace Henderson as club captain. Henderson moved to Amsterdam in January 2024 in a bid to secure a place in England's squad for the Euros after an unhappy six months with Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq. But Gareth Southgate still didn't take him to Germany and the player was involved in a row with Ajax during the winter transfer window when they refused to let him take up an offer to join Monaco. Henderson's improved form saw him recalled to international duty when Tuchel named his first England squad in March for the World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia. Tuchel explained that the former Liverpool skipper is a vital influence for him both on and off the pitch. Henderson has won 83 caps for his country. When he spoke to the Dutch media following the end-of-season collapse that saw Ajax throw away a nine-point lead in the final five games to allow PSV Eindhoven to snatch the title, he admitted: 'I am really proud of what we have achieved this season with Ajax. But next season here? We will have to wait and see. 'The club will have to make decisions. Not just about me, but about other players too. We will also have to sit down at some point with the club and find out what they want to do with the financial situation. 'We have to look at who they want to stay and who they don't. I just want to have a bit of rest, clear my mind. First the national team and then a real holiday.'

'Clarke seems to be doing no future planning'

Over the next two years, four or five others will be in the same position as Hanley and Steve Clarke seems to be doing no planning for the Clarke just isn't inventive, he is absolutely devoid of any ideas and should've walked after the Germany The pool of players in the Scottish team have all been successful at their respective clubs. And yet, they are unable to play a co-ordinated organised game for Scotland. The strikers consistently miss, the defence fails to defend, and the midfield lacks co-ordination. Our stand-in goalkeeper had a bad game. However, Scotland was having success with these players in the past, so what has changed? Why do they no longer gel as a team? I think the root of the problem lies with the coaching staff, the tactics employed, and poor preparation. Somewhere along the way management and coaches have fallen short of the fans expectations and, in performance terms, have Ross Doohan should be called up. He had some top performances at Aberdeen last season and is a more experienced goalkeeper. And he's played in Under-21 Clarke has to go. Now. How many excuses for insipid performances? He sticks with people who are not delivering. There is loyalty and stubborn stupidity. His selections are unadventurous and uninspiring. The crowd now expects failure. He cannot get a performance out of these players - see the Euros. Time for a change now before we lose the first two World Cup qualifiers and have nothing to do for the next two An absolute shocker of a performance against Iceland, with the horrific goalkeeping situation coming to the fore. Only George Hirst came close to pass marks. World Cup qualification hopes look slim at best, and Clarke's future as manager surely has to be in doubt. The team look to be lacking any ambition and inspiration.
