Brewers edge Dodgers for 10th straight win, completing season sweep
Shohei Ohtani hit a two-run homer for the Dodgers, but Isaac Collins snapped a sixth-inning tie with a two-run single as the Brewers finished 6-0 this season against the defending World Series champions. They extended their longest winning streak since 2021 by sweeping the NL West leaders for the second time in two weeks.
Los Angeles has dropped 10 of 12 overall.
Collins' two-out single to center field off reliever Lou Trivino (3-1) broke a 4-all tie and put Milwaukee ahead for good after a back-and-forth start. The Dodgers cut their deficit to a run in the ninth and loaded the bases with two outs, but Uribe got Betts to line out to center for his sixth major league save and second this year.
Jose Quintana (7-3) allowed four runs over six innings for the win.
Los Angeles starter Clayton Kershaw permitted five hits and three runs (two earned) in 4 1/3 innings. Ohtani launched his 34th homer of the season and Esteury Ruiz hit his first with the Dodgers.
First baseman Freddie Freeman exited in the sixth after getting hit by a pitch on his left wrist.

The Dodgers committed a trio of defensive miscues that helped the Brewers erase an early 3-0 deficit. Third baseman Tommy Edman airmailed a throw to first, Ruiz missed a cutoff man from left field and Andy Pages whiffed on a liner to center — all with two outs — to allow three Brewers runs to score.

Dodgers' two-way star Shohei Ohtani to pitch on Wednesday
Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani is expected to start on the mound Wednesday as he continues his buildup from elbow surgery that kept him from pitching all last season. Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday before the Dodgers faced the Boston Red Sox in the finale of their three-game series that the plan is for Ohtani to work four innings at Cincinnati, with an off day to recover before hitting in a game. With the Japanese superstar working his way back along with left-hander Blake Snell, who pitched 4 2/3 innings on Saturday in his fourth rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City, the Dodgers will be using a six-man rotation. They currently have Clayton Kershaw, Tyler Glasnow, Dustin May, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Emmet Sheehan in the rotation. 'Shohei is going to go on Wednesday and then he'll probably pitch the following Wednesday, so that probably lends itself to the six-man,' Roberts said. In Ohtani's last start, he allowed one run and four hits in three innings against Minnesota on July 22. He struck out three and walked one, throwing 46 pitches, 30 for strikes. Roberts feels like this season is sort of a rehab year in the big leagues and doesn't foresee the team extending Ohtani's workload deep into games for a while. 'I think this whole year on the pitching side is sort of rehab, maintenance,' he said. 'We're not going to have the reins off where we're going to say: 'Hey you can go 110 pitches.' I don't see that happening for quite some time. I think that staying at four (innings) for a bit, then build up to five and we'll see where we can go from there.' Also Sunday, the club activated right-handed reliever Blake Treinen from the injured list and recalled left-hander Justin Wrobleski. The 37-year-old Treinen was a big part of last season's run to the World Series title, picking up two victories in the Series against the New York Yankees. He has been sidelined since April 19 because of forearm tightness. 'I think the only thing I'm going to be mindful of is the up-down,' Roberts said on Treinen's usage. 'To come into an inning of leverage, I have no problem.' Wrobleski, 25, is with the Dodgers for the fourth time this season. He's a starter now, but Roberts said he'll work out of the bullpen. 'Just trying to get a quality arm, get some length, potentially using him in two-inning stints, three-inning stints is going to be helpful for our 'pen,' Roberts said. 'The goal is to get the best pitchers on your roster in whatever role.' To make room on the roster, LA optioned right-handers Will Klein and Edgardo Henriquez.

Orioles RHP Tomoyuki Sugano ponders his future with the trade deadline approaching
BALTIMORE (AP) — There are plenty of reasons why the Baltimore Orioles would love to hold onto Tomoyuki Sugano for the rest of the season. The Japanese right-hander is loved in the clubhouse, rarely misses a start and, most important, knows how to win on the mound. Those qualities also make Sugano quite appealing to a contender looking to upgrade its starting rotation before Friday's trade deadline. Sugano shackled the Colorado Rockies on four hits over six innings in Baltimore's 5-1 victory Sunday. He matched his season high with eight strikeouts and improved to 8-5. Signed to one-year contract in December, Sugano has clearly been a success in his first season in the big leagues after an impressive career in Japan. The question is, will the 35-year-old rookie stay in Baltimore or be traded by the last-place club? Sugano would prefer to stay put, but he's beginning to understand that anything can happen right up until the final minute of the fast-approaching deadline. 'It's obviously my first time. I don't know what's going to happen,' Sugano said through an interpreter after Sunday's game. After a solid start with the Orioles, Sugano struggled in June and was blown out in successive starts against Tampa Bay (June 27) and Texas (July 2). Then, after adjusting his delivery, he gave up just four hits in six innings against the Mets on July 10 to get back on track. On Sunday against the Rockies, he looked particularly sharp in what might have been his final outing with the Orioles. 'We need him,' interim manager Tony Mansolino said. 'When Sugano throws the ball well, he gives us a chance to win. And we need to win games.' So does a team looking to make a run at a pennant or World Series championship. Alex Bregman hits 2-run HR, Red Sox take series vs. Dodgers with 4-3 win
BOSTON (AP) — Alex Bregman hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the fifth inning and the Boston Red Sox hung on to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 Sunday for a series win. Rookie Roman Anthony added an RBI triple for the Red Sox, who captured their first series since the All-Star break. Boston had a 10-game winning streak entering the break. Boston closer Aroldis Chapman walked off the mound with an apparent injury in the eighth inning. In to face the top of the Dodgers' order, his velocity was noticeably down to the mid-90 mph on his fastball instead of the high 90s to low 100s. Michael Conforto hit a solo homer and had two doubles for the Dodgers. Jordan Hicks entered and got out of a two-on, one-out mess when Teoscar Hernández lined to second and Ceddanne Rafaela dove to the bag, beating Hyeseong Kim for double play. Hicks pitched the ninth for his second save. Brennan Bernardino (4-2) got an out in relief for the victory. Facing his former team for the first time since getting the final out of the World Series for them last fall, Boston right-hander Walker Buehler gave up three runs in 4 2/3 innings.
