Bhalki's BKIT honoured with award for academic excellence

The Hindu19-06-2025
Bheemanna Khandre Institute of Technology (BKIT), Bhalki, has earned a prestigious accolade for its exemplary academic practices.
The institute has been selected by Begin Up Research Intelligence Private Limited, a Bangalore-based research organisation, as the recipient of the 'Excellence in Education Standards Adaptability and Implementation' award for the academic year 2025.
BKIT Principal Udaykumar Kalyane expressed immense pride in this recognition, attributing it to the institution's unwavering commitment to academic quality, innovation and holistic development of students.
'BKIT's success stems from several foundational strengths. The college boasts a team of highly experienced and dedicated faculty members who ensure academic rigour and provide strong mentorship. A consistent academic schedule supports uninterrupted learning, while the institution's willingness to embrace new technologies keeps it aligned with current industry demands. Regular interaction with industry partners enriches student learning through practical exposure and a strong alumni network plays a key role in mentoring and guiding students,' Mr. Kalyane said in a media release.
In addition to these strengths, he added, BKIT has implemented several noteworthy initiatives that have significantly contributed to its recognition.
'The Centre of Excellence is a unique programme that provides skill training to students from their first to final semesters without any additional cost. BKIT has also forged partnerships with leading organisations to offer training, support and inspiration to its students. Alumni are actively involved in sharing their expertise and mentoring students. Weekly mock tests are conducted to assess and improve technical and IT skills. Parents are kept regularly informed of their children's progress through SMS updates on attendance and internal assessment marks,' he said.
According to Mr. Kalyane, the college has also introduced online foreign language learning, beginning with Japanese, to broaden students' global opportunities apart from promoting well-being and holistic growth through yoga, music and sports classes.
'This award not only affirms BKIT's adaptability to evolving educational standards but also reflects its commitment to nurturing future-ready graduates through quality education, industry collaboration and comprehensive student development,' he said.

Maha cabinet approves Rs 18 crore to make air travel from Solapur to Pune & Mumbai feasible

Kolhapur: The state cabinet approved Rs 18 crore to ensure air travellers from Solapur can travel to Pune and Mumbai at a subsidised rate of Rs 3,240 per seat, covering 100% of the operational cost of the service. The refurbished Solapur airport commenced flight operations with the Solapur-Goa route. However, despite several efforts, airline operators were hesitant to provide regular air services from Solapur to Mumbai and Pune, citing unaffordable ticket prices as the airport is not included in the Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme for regional connectivity. To make air travel between Solapur and Pune and Solapur and Mumbai viable, state govt decided to grant a subsidy per seat to offset operational losses and make air travel affordable for people. "For one year, govt will provide a viability gap funding subsidy of Rs 3,240 per seat with a total budget of Rs 17.9 crore. After one year, the airport will come under the UDAN scheme and, thereafter, the state will grant 20% of the travel fares as per the UDAN scheme guidelines, and the viability gap funding will cease to exist," said the cabinet decision. A Goa-based airline currently operates flights on four days of the week — Monday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday — from the Solapur airport. The flight lands at Mopa airport. A senior airport official said, "The discussions are on with other private air service providers to start services for connecting flights between Solapur, Pune, and Mumbai. The mid-size airplane (60 seater) will be deployed along the routes." Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Wagh Bakri Tea Group launches Royale blend

The Ahmedabad-based over 130-year-old Wagh Bakri Tea Group on Tuesday launched the Royale blend, the group's first major product launch in the CTC, black tea category in nearly three decades. During the launch event, Wagh Bakri Tea Group Executive Director Paras Desai said that a month before the official unveiling, Royale was served at Wagh Bakri Tea Lounges in Gujarat, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, and Haryana, where customers embraced it 'wholeheartedly and praised its rich, satisfying experience'. Royale is crafted from '100% handpicked Assam tea leaves, combining high-grown long leaves with robust CTC teas. The result is a bold flavour, vibrant Kesari hue, and mesmerising aroma designed to satisfy discerning palates,' said a statement from the company. This blend will be priced at Rs 180 for 225 grams and Rs 360 for 450 grams. The rollout begins in Ahmedabad and Vadodara. 'Gujarat is home to Wagh Bakri. Starting here is a rational decision backed by our strong regional presence and robust distribution,' said Wagh Bakri Tea Group CEO Sanjay Singal. 'If you give quality to consumers, they will definitely come back,' he added. Singal noted that while Punjab and Jammu tops the list in per capita spending on tea, Gujarat and Maharashtra lead the premium tea segment. He added that the 'aspirational generation' is driving the premiumisation trend, with more customers willing to pay for superior products. 'Wagh Bakri Royale is our finest blend to date, a unique mix of tradition and innovation,' he said. With an annual turnover of Rs 2,000 crore and distribution of over 50 million kilograms of tea, Wagh Bakri has its roots in South Africa where Gandhian Narandas Desai started his first tea estate and launched it as the Gujarat Tea Depot.
