Musgrave Park, Live at the Marquee, Cork, Friday-Thursday, June 27-July 3
What a week of gigs ahead. Duran Duran, supported by Nile Rodgers and Chic, play Musgrave Park (Virgin Media Park) on Tuesday, July 1, while the same night Live at the Marquee on the docklands, renowned blues player Joe Bonamassa plays Rory Gallagher on the first of three shows (next Thursday's show still has some tickets remaining). The Conoras play the Marquee on Friday, while the legendary Christy Moore returns on Saturday - expect classics and songs off last year's acclaimed album, A Terrible Beauty.
Talk: Gerry McAvoy
The Blue Angel, Cork Opera House, 2pm, Saturday, June 28
With the aforementioned Joe Bonamassa in town and Cork Rocks for Rory series of events continuing around the city, Gerry McAvoy, who played bass with Gallagher for 20 years, is in conversation on Saturday afternoon. Expect tales from the road and the recording studio. It's presented by Feedback Promotions as part of Gallaghers Music Festival, who are also staging a bus tour on Tuesday, July 1, of sights and landmarks associated with Rory. (Full disclosure... Streaming: Squid Game

Netflix's number one non-English language series of all time, Squid Game returns for its third and final season on Friday. Gi‑hun (Lee Jung‑jae) returns wounded, vengeful, and ready to dismantle the Squid Game empire from within. He will be forced to make some important choices as he and the surviving players are thrust into deadlier games that test everyone's resolve. With each round, their choices lead to increasingly grave consequences.
TV: Glastonbury 2025
BBC, Friday-Sunday, June 27-29
The cliche goes that the best way to experience Glastonbury is on your couch rather than in the usually muddy field of Somerset with over 250,000 people. Neil Young (his set won't be televised), Olivia Rodrigo (who played Dublin on Tuesday), and the 1975 headline, but the act everyone is talking about is Kneecap. It's unlikely their set will be shown on Saturday, however. Coverage begins on BBC Two at 5pm, while Kneecap's set on the West Holts stage is scheduled for 4pm to 5pm.
Comedy: Dara Ó Briain
Live at the Marquee, Sunday, June 29
It's a busy weekend of comedy in Cork, with Jarleth Regan doing a second night at the Opera House on Friday and Katherine Ryan playing a sold-out show there on Saturday. Meanwhile, on Sunday, Dara Ó Briain returns to the Marquee with his latest tour, Re:Creation, about the search for his biological father. Like the story itself, expect to be taken on a laugh-filled journey by one of the best standups around.

Daniel Day-Lewis makes acting return after eight-year hiatus in film directed by his son
The three-time Oscar winner announced he would no longer work in Hollywood after starring in Paul Thomas Anderson's 2017 film Phantom Thread. But he has returned for the new family drama Anemone, and takes centre stage in a new image ahead of the family drama's New York Film Festival premiere next month. The English actor, 68, has co-written Anemone with his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, who is also the director of the project. An image of Day-Lewis in the woods looking up into the sky with co-star Sean Bean has been released by Focus Features. Anemone explores themes of 'fraught' relationships between fathers and sons, and brothers with a 'mysterious, complicated past'. Set in Manchester in the north of England, an official description of the movie calls it 'an absorbing family drama about lives undone by seemingly irreconcilable legacies of political and personal violence.' It follows Bean as a middle-aged man who 'sets out from his suburban home on a journey into the woods, where he reconnects with his estranged hermit brother (Day-Lewis). Samantha Morton, How to Have Sex actor Samuel Bottomley and Safia Oakley-Green, known for her work in the horror film Out of Darkness, will also star in supporting roles. Day-Lewis confirmed he would be returning to acting in September 2024, when his son's project was first announced. In 2017, the star's team said, three months before the release of Phantom Thread: 'Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject.' The reasons behind his decision remained a mystery. The actor is one of the most widely respected actors of his generation, and has been awarded numerous accolades throughout his career. Oasis are gearing up to play two sold-out shows at Dublin's Croke Park this weekend in what will be the Britpop legend's first gigs on Irish soil since 2008. Brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher will play to 160,000 adoring Irish fans over this Saturday and Sunday after the pair finally settled their long-running feud last year and announced their much-anticipated reunion tour following a 15-year hiatus The Gallagher brothers have a long history with Ireland - their parents' homeland. Their mother Peggy was born Charlestown, Co Mayo and moved to the UK in 1961 aged 18, originally working as a housekeeper in Manchester. It was there where she met Thomas Gallagher, who hailed from Duleek in Co Meath. Liam and Noel have often spoken with pride of their Irish roots, with the older Gallagher brother claiming in his 2021 autobiography that their Irish upbringing made Oasis what it was. "We are Irish, me and Liam, pretty much," Noel wrote. "There is no English blood in us... "Oasis could never have existed, been as big, been as important, been as flawed, been as loved and loathed, if we weren't all predominantly Irish." Oasis have played numerous memorable gigs in Ireland over the years, from their first ever Irish gig at Dublin's Tivoli Theatre in September 1994 to playing for 80,000 fans at Slane Castle in 2009 in what proved to be one of the band's final shows before they split in acrimonious circumstances.
