We've been together for 25 years & they said it would never last – we embrace our issues, says Catherine Zeta-Jones
AS she plans a huge celebration to mark her 25th wedding anniversary with Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones is also laughing at the cynics who said their marriage was doomed. The acting couple seemed an unlikely match at the start. 6 6 Welsh beauty Catherine was 28 and about to secure A-list status starring in 1998 movie The Mask Of Zorro with Antonio Banderas, after finding fame in the UK with wholesome ITV show The Darling Buds Of May. Meanwhile, Basic Instinct star and ladies' man Michael, then 53, had separated from first wife Diandra Luker, who he eventually divorced in 2000, and had done a stint in rehab for booze and drug issues in 1992. But Catherine, now 55, recalled: 'We've been married 25 years, it's something to celebrate. And they said it would never last! 'It's a journey of learning and loving and fun, and the prospect of reaching a 25-year anniversary is really quite thrilling. I remember my mum and dad celebrating theirs.' The anniversary of their lavish wedding ceremony at the five-star Plaza Hotel in New York is in November, but Catherine will be too busy to celebrate on the actual date. She is now starring as Morticia Addams in the second series of Wednesday, which was released on Netflix this week, and will be filming season three on their big day. But Michael, now 80, doesn't mind waiting a few weeks for a party. Catherine said: 'I've been working a lot this year and he's been so supportive. I think we're going to be doing a party around the holidays because I'll be shooting season three. It's such a short period of time I have off. 'Difficult times' 'September 25 is both our birthdays. So from September 25 through to Christmas is a pretty busy time.' During the past quarter century, cynics have at times believed their predictions the couple wouldn't last. The Mask Of Zorro staring Catherine Zeta-Jones The stars themselves have been candid about the struggles they faced. In 2010, Michael announced he was undergoing intensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy to treat stage 4 throat cancer, which he said was caused by the HPV virus. The year after, Catherine revealed she had been diagnosed with bipolar II, struggling with the stress of her husband's illness. Then, in 2013, they announced that they had separated, but reconciled months later, with Michael saying: 'I think every couple has their difficult times. We're back, stronger than ever.' Surviving the tough spells has made them even more determined to celebrate with their children Dylan, 25, and Carys, 22, together with Michael's son Cameron, 46, from his first marriage. The Hollywood pair have amazing careers behind them, with Michael having been in Romancing The Stone and Wall Street, and Catherine in Chicago and Entrapment. But Catherine, now 55, recalled: 'We've been married 25 years, it's something to celebrate. And they said it would never last! Catherine Zeta-Jones But she says their greatest achievement is simply being parents. They raised Dylan and Carys out of the spotlight in Bermuda, where Michael's mother, Diana, was born. In 2009, they returned to New York. Showing off her moves Catherine said: 'Our children are truly wonderful. It's that fine balance of not putting them in a gilded cage of protection, of allowing them to make mistakes, of guiding them.' Wednesday, which launched in 2022, also stars Jenna Ortega in the title role and Luis Guzman as Morticia's husband Gomez. It became a huge hit for the streamer and won four Primetime Emmy Awards. Catherine admits that she relates to the Addams family, saying: 'It's a family who have issues, and we all relate to that. But we embrace our issues. 6 6 'We don't shun or hide them or try to put them in a box.' Morticia and Wednesday have a strained relationship in the show, but Catherine says that she and real-life daughter Carys share a close bond. The actress reveals Morticia's parenting style involves 'nurturing and then having discipline'. Carys has experienced a small dose of her parenting style. Catherine said: 'I did give her side-eye the other day. I rolled my eyes, and she went, 'Don't Morticia me, Mom'. I thought it was a wonderful new line that kids can say to their mothers, 'Don't Morticia me'.' In addition to her happy off-screen marriage, Catherine said she is lucky to have a great on-screen hubby in Luis. She added of the Puerto Rican actor: 'We don't rehearse our chemistry, it just seems to really show up. We did this movie called Traffic 25 years ago and had a great friendship. 6 6 'We enjoy each other's company and respect each other as artists.' Catherine, who won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Velma Kelly in 2002 film Chicago, as well as a Tony award for A Little Night Music on Broadway in 2009, said the new series sees her showing off her moves again. 'Secret weapon' She said: 'I'm a dancer and Luis moves very well. He worked so hard to get those moves.' Catherine revealed that one scene with Jenna in Wednesday sees her dust off another old skill — the sword-fighting she mastered for The Mask Of Zorro. She revealed: 'Jenna and I had so much fun. I did sword-fighting in Zorro, so, excuse the pun, it was my secret weapon.' The new Wednesday features a host of stars, including Brits Billie Piper, Joanna Lumley and Thandiwe Newton, plus US actors Steve Buscemi and Haley Joel Osment. It's a journey of learning and loving and fun, and the prospect of reaching a 25-year anniversary is really quite thrilling. I remember my mum and dad celebrating theirs Catherine Zeta-Jones Even Lady Gaga is making an appearance. She was invited on to the series after clips of Wednesday dancing went viral when fans set them to Gaga's track Bloody Mary. The megastar singer flew to Ireland to film scenes and Catherine says she was a joy to work with. She explained: 'To have a woman of that calibre within our environment, it's so incredibly amazing. 'When I met her, she was humble, gracious, creative, collaborative and a woman who is just, you know, it exudes from her — greatness. She doesn't know it. 'She's a wonderful artist. And I get to say now, 'I met Lady Gaga'.' Not to mention Gaga can say she met Catherine Zeta-Jones . . .

Olly Murs says he avoids baby classes so it's ‘not all about me' as he prepares for ‘craziness' of having 2 kids under 2
OLLY MURS and his wife Amelia have very different attitudes when it comes to parenting. The couple – who have a 15-month-old daughter, Madison, and are expecting their second in just a few weeks – are at odds about how organised you need to be for the arrival of a baby. 6 6 'Amelia thinks I'm mad,' Olly, 41, explains. 'But I just say: 'We'll deal with it when it comes.' "The most important thing for me is that Amelia's healthy, everything goes OK and that the baby is fine. "So let's not stress about what we're going to be doing at Christmas or the new pram or buying an extra bed. 'These are the things that Amelia worries about, but it will all work out.' The former bodybuilder, 33, smiles and shakes her head, revealing Olly has his 'own baby' to worry about first. 'I've got a list of things I need for the hospital and he's like: 'Let me get my new single out and then we can talk!'' Talking of getting prepared, have they found out if it's a boy or a girl? 'We don't know the sex,' says Amelia. 'We had a surprise with Madi, so we are going to do it again.' Olly adds: 'We have [the baby's sex] in an envelope. "I thought Amelia would have buckled at this point and peeked. "Maybe she has – I'll get to the hospital and everything will be a certain colour!' As for the prospect of juggling two under two, Amelia admits that there's a mix of emotions. 'I'm excited that they are going to be close in age. "They'll get to a point where they can entertain themselves. "But this is going to change the dynamic of the house completely again. "Last night, when we put Madi to bed, I said: 'Can you imagine what it's going to be like? "Having another baby needing our help, crying and wanting cuddles,'' she says. 'And that's just me,' Olly jokes. 'Seriously, though, this is why Amelia and I work. 'TOUGH BUT EXCITING' "She overthinks certain things, which is fair because it's a big commitment having two kids. I just deal with it when it happens. "I've no idea how I'm going to feel having no sleep again. "But we wanted to start a family together, so in the moments of doubt and thinking: 'This is crazy', we just need to remember we're so blessed to have children. 'It is going to be tough – but exciting. "What we've got as a foundation is really important and we would never have started a family if we didn't have all this love. "So we know that, no matter what happens, we can get through all the obstacles.' Amelia's relieved she's not having to deal with one of the obstacles they faced with Madison, which was being left, quite literally, holding the baby. 'We had to get through me being away on tour with Take That when Madi was born,' explains Olly. 'We had the wedding, and then you went: 'Olly I'm pregnant.' "We checked my diary and saw I was going to be away, but we figured it out. "We know what works and what doesn't work and I think we're going to be amazing.' 'Just no more tours for a while!' jokes Amelia. Having a pop-star partner isn't without its problems, with Olly admitting he's had to sit out some of the baby classes to avoid taking attention away from Amelia. 'We went to get Madi's jabs and it was so weird. "The nurse said: 'Oh, I saw you with Take That last week. Did you enjoy the gig?' "It was quite awkward, although it's nice that people are nice to us. 'I've come to [baby] swimming too, but it's really important for Amelia to have her own life. "It's important for her to have her own mum friendship group – not be all about me. "It probably sounds like a weird thing to say. "But I wanted Amelia to feel like a normal mum and be treated like everyone else. "Whereas if I had turned up, it would be a whole thing. 6 'We've agreed we want Madi to have as normal a life as possible. "We don't really post about her on social media and we try to keep her away from that side of it.' Now, the pair are inspiring other parents to connect with fellow mums and dads as the new ambassadors of Marks & Spencer's first ever Sparks loyalty club, The Parent Hood. 'It's crazy how much it's blown up,' says Olly. 'Amelia told me: 'I'm off to M&S in Essex to meet up with other parents and eat free cake.' "Then they asked us to be ambassadors. "I'm really proud of her for getting involved, because being at home with the baby could be quite lonely at times. "Now she's helping other people to do the same. "And it's for dads too. "Men don't really talk about their own feelings, so it's good to have somewhere to [do that]. 'I'm lucky, as I've got Wrighty [his Heart FM co-host Mark Wright, who has welcomed his daughter Palma with wife Michelle Keegan in March]. "We've both become parents around the same time. "We spend most of the radio show talking about the babies, saying: 'Do you do this?'' The couple, who are clearly crazy about each other, have playful banter throughout our chat and constantly tease each other. Amelia reveals: 'He's away a lot but what really bugs me is when he comes home, he's got a big suitcase that lives at the bottom of the stairs and he doesn't empty it for weeks.' 'We've lived together for six years,' Olly says. 'I'm always travelling – I know in a couple of days I'll have to pack it again, so might as well leave it.' 'But Olly, you don't re-pack it,' she scolds. 'You just get another bag and then there's two of them!' 'Babe, it's an organised mess. I know exactly what is in it,' Olly replies. 'And you are Miss Hoarder. Our fridge is full of stuff. "We bicker over that. Amelia hates the way I fill the dishwasher and I bicker with her about the fridge. "You can't see what's in it.' 'I do like to stack the dishwasher in a really logical way,' Amelia nods. 'Not just thrown in. When Olly does it, I've got to take it all out and fix it.' There was almost a much bigger row when the singer misplaced his wedding ring. 'BODY-SHAMMING BACKLASH' 'Oh god, don't mention it,' Olly begs. 'I only found it yesterday. Amelia said: 'You're not in trouble yet, but it's getting to that point…' "I knew I'd lost it in the house as I took it off to train because it's a bit chunky. 'I had this overwhelming feeling that my wife gave this to me on my wedding day and I need to find it. "I couldn't focus on anything else. It was in the cupholder on the treadmill – I was so relieved that I FaceTimed Amelia straight away. "Some would say: 'It's just a ring', but if I lost it I'd be really upset, because it was such a special moment when she put it on my finger.' On the topic of training, Olly has overhauled his fitness regime this year, but when he eventually showed off his six-pack on social media, he was shocked by a vicious body-shaming backlash. He was urged to give up the training as women preferred his 'huggable dad bod' to his new physique, and he was told his muscles made him look 'aged and too lean'. During his 12-week plan, former Team GB boxer Harvey Horn coached him in boxing. Olly has spent 18 months learning the sport from scratch and says he finds it a helpful stress release. He also underwent an intensive weight-lifting programme with plenty of deadlifts, lunges, squats, dips and pull-ups, as well as only eating a nutrient-dense diet. 'It was all mad,' he admits. 'I wasn't worried about posting my before-and-after photos. "I was pumped. I was genuinely really excited to say: 'Look, I've got myself fit. I'm ready for the tour.' 6 'But what came after left me so deflated. Especially as I had put all this work in. "It was tedious not eating whatever I wanted. I never expected that reaction and it really upset me. 'What bothered me most is why people thought it was necessary. It wasn't like I said: 'Which do you prefer?' I didn't. 'Everyone's entitled to their opinion. But in January, we'd just found out Amelia was pregnant. "I was lazy and had eaten everything over Christmas. I was lethargic and I wasn't sleeping well. "I made some changes and felt so much better. "I had more energy, I was better at getting up and going to sleep. "I felt more focused, I was just a much better person. 'Then I was told: 'Your fans preferred you the way you were before.' "It's like, I should not have got fit and looked after my wellbeing? I was just so confused. "Things like that don't usually affect me too much. But it did annoy me. It upset Amelia, too.' Amelia, who previously worked in the fitness world, says: 'It was body-shaming. "And maybe that's why it triggered me, because I've had that as well. "People have said I look like I need a good meal or I look like a man. "I was kind of used to all that. "But why should Olly have to deal with that at such a public level? "Working out is so good for his mental health, too, yet he was criticised for it.' Olly's image overhaul comes after battling multiple knee injuries over the last six years. A 2019 operation to reconstruct his anterior cruciate ligament left him bed-bound and unable to exercise, and he put on 2st, reaching 14st 3lb. The following year, he shed the weight thanks to Amelia's guidance, nutrition plan and motivational encouragement. 6 But more surgery followed in February 2022, and his weight fluctuated again. 'Only Amelia and those close to me know what a dark time I went through after my knee op,' he admits. 'My knee buckled on stage and I had to go through all the rehab again. " I didn't even know if I was going to be the same performer. "I wanted to celebrate 15 years in the industry with the biggest tour and being the best version of myself. "The reaction was disheartening. "At the end of the day, as long as my wife fancies me and she loves me, that's all that matters.' Of course, another motivation for getting fit has to be hanging out with Mark Wright, who's no slouch in the six-pack department himself. Olly laughs: 'He was getting really jealous. "He said: 'Oh my god, Olly, you gotta stop looking good because I ain't in the gym as much as I used to be!'' The Essex lads have such a good friendship, they're hoping their wives form a similar bond. 'We've been trying to get the four of us together for years,' Olly explains. 'But our schedule's always all over the place. "Hopefully this month we can do it, as Amelia's never met Michelle. "Michelle wants to meet Amelia, too. Everyone's just so busy. "Michelle is away doing a shoot, Amelia's away with her friends, or Wrighty's wheeling and dealing somewhere. "We're going to do it before the baby comes. Something like a barbecue at home.' While touring is banned for the moment, Olly is making new music, which he's been playing to the bump. 'We were in the car and I had it on volume 16 and Amelia turned it down so Madi could sleep!' 'Oh, I've heard the new album – many times,' adds Amelia. 'Everyone kept asking if Amelia came on tour with me,' Olly says. 'But she once said to me: 'Does the tour change every night?' I went: 'No', so she said: 'Well, I don't need to come every night then!'' 'That sounds so savage,' Amelia protests. 'It wasn't like that. I always want to come and see you.' 'No, it does make sense,' Olly agrees. 'We've got a family to look after. 'EVERYTHING IS FOR THEM' 'But, honestly, the thing that motivates me more than anything is the kids getting to see me play. "Amelia brought Madi to my Plymouth gig and it was so special to know she was watching me. "I would love to see Madi come and watch me at London 's O2 and understand that 'that's my dad'. 'I definitely think having kids has inspired me to push on in my career. "Everything is for them, I just want to make them and Amelia proud.'
