Xi Jinping Urges Unity, Action on Climate at Leaders Meeting

It is a great pleasure to join you virtually at the Leaders Meeting on Climate and the Just Transition.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement. Over the past decade, global climate governance has gone through winds and rains, but green and low-carbon development has eventually become a trend of our times. This year also marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. As unprecedented global changes unfold at a faster pace, humanity has come to a new crossroads. Although some major country's persistent pursuit of unilateralism and protectionism has seriously impacted international rules and the international order, history will, as always, move forward through twists and turns. As long as we enhance confidence, solidarity and cooperation, we will overcome the headwinds and steadily move forward global climate governance and all progressive endeavors of the world. Let me share four points with you in this regard.
First, we must adhere to multilateralism. The more volatile and turbulent the international situation becomes, the greater the need for us to firmly safeguard the U.N.-centered international system and the international order underpinned by international law, and firmly safeguard international fairness and justice. The U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Paris Agreement are the legal cornerstone of international climate cooperation. It is important for all countries to champion the rule of law, honor commitments, prioritize green and low-carbon development, and jointly respond to the climate crisis through multilateral governance.
Second, we must deepen international cooperation. Solidarity and cooperation are needed more than ever as the world faces multiple, compounded challenges. We should rise above estrangement and conflict with openness and inclusiveness, boost technological innovation and industrial transformation through cooperation, and facilitate the free flow of quality green technologies and products, so that they can be accessible, affordable and beneficial for all countries, especially the developing ones. As a member of the Global South, China will vigorously deepen South-South cooperation and continue to provide help for fellow developing countries to the best of its capability.
Third, we must accelerate the just transition. Clear waters and green mountains are just as valuable as gold and silver. Green transformation is not only the essential way to address climate change, but also a new engine for economic and social development. Such transformation must be people-centered and pursued in a way that advances the well-being of people and climate governance in tandem, and strike a balance between multiple goals including environmental protection, economic growth, job creation, and poverty alleviation. Developed countries are obliged to extend assistance and support to developing countries, help drive the global shift toward green and low-carbon development, and contribute to the common and long-term well-being of people of all countries.
Fourth, we must strengthen results-oriented actions. Instead of talking the talk, we must walk the walk. We must turn our goals into tangible results through systematic policies and concrete measures. All parties should do their utmost to formulate and implement their program of action for nationally determined contributions (NDCs) while coordinating economic development and energy transition. China will announce its 2035 NDCs covering all economic sectors and all greenhouse gases before the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Belém.

Harmony between man and nature is a defining feature of Chinese modernization. China is a steadfast actor and major contributor in promoting global green development. Since I announced China's goals for carbon peaking and carbon neutrality five years ago, we have built the world's largest and fastest-growing renewable energy system as well as the largest and most complete new energy industrial chain. China also leads the world in the speed and scale of 'greening', contributing a quarter of the world's newly-added area of afforestation.
However the world may change, China will not slow down its climate actions, will not reduce its support for international cooperation, and will not cease its efforts to build a community with a shared future for mankind. With the future of humanity and the well-being of our people in mind, let's earnestly honor the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, do our utmost respectively and collectively, and build a clean, beautiful, and sustainable world together.

Taarek Refaat US President Donald Trump revealed on Friday evening that Chinese President Xi Jinping had agreed to resume the flow of rare earth minerals to the United States. "We've come a long way with the agreement with China," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. Beijing has stepped up its use of rare earth minerals as a strategic lever through a stringent export licensing regime modeled after US sanctions, a move that is reshaping the trade war between China and the United States. These measures give China unprecedented control over a vital joint in global supply chains, amid growing concern in Western capitals. During his remarks aboard Air Force One, he stated that he believes the US is "doing very well" despite ongoing trade tensions and economic uncertainty. He noted that there has been "a lot of progress" on the agreement with China ahead of Monday's discussions. Recent weeks have seen intense activity by international companies seeking to secure mineral export licenses from China, following the inclusion of advanced types of rare earth minerals on a regulatory list last April. In the latest development, US President Donald Trump spoke by phone with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, on Thursday evening to discuss this vital issue, amid the shutdown of some European production lines due to supply shortages. Meanwhile, White House trade advisor Peter Navarro said on Friday that a meeting between US and Chinese officials on trade is scheduled to take place within seven days. China produces approximately 70% of the world's rare earth minerals and has a monopoly on processing technologies, giving it an unparalleled industrial advantage. With the implementation of the new licensing system, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce effectively controls the flow of vital raw materials for auto, technology, and defense industries around the world. Egypt welcomes ILO resolution granting observer status to Palestine
Egyptian and Palestinian flags CAIRO – June 7, 2025: Egypt's Ministry of Labor has welcomed the decision by the General Conference of the International Labour Organization (ILO) to grant the State of Palestine observer status within the organization. The resolution was overwhelmingly adopted, with 386 votes in favor, 15 against, and 42 abstentions, marking a significant step forward for Palestinian representation in international labor affairs. Egyptian Minister of Labor Mohammad Jubran extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Palestinian delegation—comprising representatives of the government, employers, and workers—on this historic milestone. He praised the ILO's decision to grant Palestine "non-member observer state" status, describing it as a just and overdue recognition. The resolution was adopted during a plenary session on Friday, June 6, as part of the 113th Session of the International Labor Conference, held in Geneva from June 2 to 13, 2025. Minister Jubran delivered Egypt's official statement in support of the resolution during the plenary session on Thursday at the United Nations Palace. In his remarks, he welcomed the adoption of what he described as a 'historic resolution,' noting its alignment with the United Nations General Assembly resolution of May 10, 2024. That resolution affirmed Palestine's eligibility for full UN membership under Article 4 of the UN Charter and called for its admission to the United Nations and its specialized agencies. The ILO's 352nd Governing Body session subsequently adopted a resolution to amend Palestine's status, enabling its delegation to participate more fully in the organization's meetings and activities. Minister Jubran stated: 'This resolution embodies a historical truth and a recognition of the rights of a people who have suffered for more than seven decades under foreign occupation, blockade, oppression, and the killing of women and children.

UN Member States to Adopt Voluntary Political Declaration to Solve Marine Crisis
Rana Atef More than 2,000 scientists and advocates from at least 100 countries participated in the One Ocean Science Congress, dedicated to the increasing marine crisis. 'The ocean is suffering at the cause of humanity,' said the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, who spoke at the opening ceremony on Tuesday. She added, 'Either we save our oceans or the entire race will pay.' Rising sea temperatures due to global warming, ocean acidification, plastic pollution, and offshore oil and gas developments are some of the threats plaguing the ocean. 'Sound research shows global human health is intrinsically linked to a healthy ocean,' said Peter Thomson, the United Nations secretary-general's special envoy for the ocean. The ocean greatly contributes to producing more than half of the oxygen humans breathe, in addition to balancing Earth temperatures by absorbing excess heat and carbon dioxide. 3 billion people depend on the ocean for their daily activities, according to the United Nations. But, at the congress's opening ceremony, Thomson said, 'the ocean's health is currently, measurably in decline.' Now is the time to chart a new future for the ocean, he said. 'Faith has been placed upon this congress to serve as the scientific pillar of the U.N. Ocean Conference,' said Thomson. He added: 'We're expecting that the scientifically compiled conclusions of this congress will inform the leaders and the representatives of governments and civil society who will be attending the conference.'
