St Mirren strategic move will make club 'robust, compliant and secure'
The partnership comes as clubs across Scottish football face escalating financial pressures – with rising national insurance, minimum wage rates and energy costs adding significant strain to already tight budgets.
For St Mirren, which operates under a community-ownership model, the decision reflects a wider shift in mindset: treating back-office functions with the same strategic importance as on-field performance.
Keith Lasley, the club's Chief Operating Officer, said: 'In today's football economy, every part of the club has to deliver. We've got no luxury of inefficiency – not with the cost base clubs are facing today.

SOLVD. gives us confidence that payroll – a function that affects every player and staff member – is robust, compliant and secure.
'It's a major step forward for our team, ensuring there's no longer a single point of failure and giving us real confidence that things are being taken care of in the payroll front. It's a major step forward.'
SOLVD. provides end-to-end business support services — including payroll, finance, HR, customer experience and reporting — to major employers across the UK. It was originally created as the in-house shared services team for transport giant Abellio, and has since evolved into a stand-alone company headquartered in Glasgow with a 150-strong workforce.

The firm has processed over 300,000 payroll transactions annually with over 99% accuracy, and is a recipient of the Investors in People Platinum award. Its expansion into sport and education reflects growing demand from high-trust, high-pressure sectors seeking reliable back-office solutions.
Valerie Mitchell, Managing Director at SOLVD., said: 'Clubs like St Mirren are taking bold, smart steps to modernise. They're recognising that operational systems – from payroll to reporting – are critical to how a club runs, how it protects its people, and how it stays resilient.

'And for us, it's another example of the role Scottish expertise can play in supporting complex, national-scale systems — whether that's in sport, transport, or beyond.'
The club confirmed that no job losses are involved in the move. Instead, the goal is to eliminate 'single points of failure,' reduce internal pressure on lean teams, and futureproof a core function.

Weinstein's Saba Capital bulks up hedge fund talent with hire from Millennium
By Svea Herbst-Bayliss NEW YORK (Reuters) -Hedge fund manager Boaz Weinstein, best known for his winning bet against the JPMorgan Chase trader known as the London Whale, is hiring two senior partners as his firm, Saba Capital Management, plans to expand into quantitative credit trading. New York-based Saba, which invests $6 billion on behalf of clients and has been trying to shake up the closed-end fund industry, will reunite with Jeremy Benkiewicz, a co-founder of the firm, early next year, people familiar with the matter said on Monday. Saba is also making Kieran Goodwin, who has been advising the firm, a partner to lead Saba's move into quantitative credit trading, said the people, who are prohibited from discussing personnel decisions publicly. Benkiewicz will rejoin the firm in February. He had worked with Weinstein for nearly two decades at Deutsche Bank and at Saba and is an expert in credit trading, cross-asset relative value and convertible arbitrage trading. Benkiewicz worked most recently as a portfolio manager at hedge fund Millennium Management for five years. Neither he nor Millennium responded immediately to requests for comment. Goodwin previously worked at King Street where he was a partner, a member of the investment committee and was the head of trading. He could not be reached for comment. Later this year Saba will launch a predominantly systematic trading strategy called Saba LT that aims to identify credit dislocations and seeks to gain a foothold in the accelerating electronification of corporate bond trading. To lay the groundwork for the expansion, Saba previously hired quant traders Robert Rappleye and David Buckman from hedge fund Jane Street. Competition among hedge funds for talent is fierce with top portfolio managers and traders commanding eye-popping pay packages as firms try to woo more pension funds, endowments and other investors with promises of capturing some of the market's upside but ensuring smaller losses on the way down. Weinstein, who won a stock picking contest in high school by beating out thousands of other students, most recently waged a battle to shake up the UK investment trust industry to push for better returns and has reached agreements with a handful of closed-end funds. In 2012, Weinstein gained fame for spotting unusual trading patterns in the credit market by a JPMorgan trader called the London Whale that saddled the bank with some $6 billion in losses. FTC sues reseller for faking accounts to grab Taylor Swift Eras tickets
Federal regulators are suing a ticket broker they say used fake accounts to snag Eras Tour tickets and sell them at a markup. Hot on the heels of Taylor Swift's "The Life of a Showgirl" announcement, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission filed a complaint in Maryland federal court on Aug. 18. The paperwork accused ticket reseller Key Investment Group of using thousands of fake or purchased Ticketmaster accounts to snag tickets to events and resell them at higher rates. The FTC said for one of the Eras concerts, the Baltimore-based company deployed 49 different accounts to seize 273 tickets, evading the six-ticket purchase limit. Key Investment Group operates resale sites such as Ticketmaster faced intense criticism after its botched 2022 sale of tickets to Swift's much-hyped Eras Tour, when billions of fans, bots and resellers overwhelmed the site. The company was forced to cancel a planned general public sale. Taylor Swift speaks out after Ticketmaster cancels her tour's general ticket sale: 'It pisses me off' "There are a multitude of reasons why people had such a hard time trying to get tickets and I'm trying to figure out how this situation can be improved moving forward," Swift posted to her Instagram story. "I'm not going to make excuses for anyone because we asked them, multiple times, if they could handle this kind of demand and we were assured they could. It's truly amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets, but it really pisses me off that a lot of them feel like they went through several bear attacks to get them." FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson said in a statement that the lawsuit against Key Investment Group puts ticket sellers on notice that the agency will target those who "circumvent ticketing platforms' limits on ticket sales." The action is part of a broader crackdown President Donald Trump announced in March aimed at curbing exploitative reselling practices that raise costs for fans. Taylor Swift 'New Heights' highlights: Eras Tour inspired new album, no extra tracks, more Key Investment Group sued the FTC in July to block the investigation, saying its purchases did not involve automated software or bots and did not violate the Better Online Ticket Sales (BOTS) Act. The company said in its lawsuit that the FTC has made it clear "they intend to use the BOTS Act to shut down the entire secondary-ticket market." On Monday, the FTC accused Key Investment Group and three of its executives of violating the BOTS Act as well as the FTC Act, which prohibits unfair and deceptive business practices. Meanwhile, Ticketmaster and its parent, Live Nation Entertainment, are fighting a separate U.S. antitrust lawsuit alleging the company monopolized markets across the live concert industry.
