Erling Haaland was back to his old tricks as he netted a brace in a reminder of just how lethal he can be.
While new arrivals Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki showed the Premier League what they are about with debut goals.
Pep Guardiola's side were a shadow of their usual selves last season, falling out of the title race before it had even truly begun.
But they look back to business and ready to push the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal all the way this term.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney reveal ‘hands off' approach to Wrexham

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, co-owners of Wrexham AFC, have stated they do not make any "football decisions" at the Championship club. Under their ownership, Wrexham have achieved a historic feat by securing three successive promotions through the English football league system. The Hollywood owners attended Wrexham's first home Championship game since May 1982, which saw the Red Dragons lose 3-2 to West Brom. Reynolds described their management approach as "hands-off," focusing on listening, learning, and supporting the club while telling its story. Wrexham's commercial success, boosted by the owners' celebrity status and the 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary, has facilitated significant investment in the squad, including breaking their transfer record three times this summer.

Daniel Farke: Leeds' Jack Harrison has won team-mates over after two years away

Harrison's return to Elland Road this summer has divided opinion among supporters after he spent two seasons on loan at Everton following Leeds' top-flight relegation. The 28-year-old, booed by a section of sceptical Whites fans during pre-season, could face his former club on Monday night when the two sides launch their Premier League campaigns at Elland Road. Jack Harrison made 73 appearances in total for Everton during his two-season loan (Scott Wilson/PA) Farke said: 'I can confirm Jack definitely has already won the staff and all the players back because his behaviour was top class. He's working very hard and is an unbelievably nice team-mate. 'Right now it's up to him. With good performances and hard work he can win the trust of supporters back. 'Our supporters have a good feeling if someone really works for this club and I'm pretty sure he'll grab his chance with both hands.' Harrison signed a five-year deal with Leeds in 2023, but after scoring five goals in 73 appearances in total during his two-season stay at Everton, he was widely expected to depart Elland Road this summer. 📰 Leeds United can confirm Jack Harrison has decided to re-join Everton on loan, ahead of the 2024/25 season. — Leeds United (@LUFC) June 24, 2024 Farke added: 'Jack is a proven Premier League player, a good age, top character, and hard working. 'Mixed reactions are normal once a player goes away on loan, it was similar with Brenden Aaronson. 'Everyone was in doubt when he came back and he's proven he wants to work his socks off for this club and he has won all our supporters back.' Leeds' latest signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin could also face his former club on Monday. The 28-year-old became the club's eight summer arrival since winning the Sky Bet Championship title in May, signing a three-year deal as a free agent following his departure from Everton at the end of the season. All new recruits barring suspended defender Jaka Bijol are in contention for their Leeds debuts. Farke, still keen to add a full-back and further strengthen his attack before the transfer window closes on September 1, is hoping Jayden Bogle can recover from a hip flexor issue in time for the opening match.
