ZF Group commissions new plant in Coimbatore
ZF Group, an automotive supply and technology company, has commissioned a plant in Coimbatore to cater to the construction and railways segments in the domestic and export markets.
The 10,000 sq.mt manufacturing facility, which is set up with 20 million euro investment (approximately Rs.192 crores), will initially have 85% of production for export market.
Andreas Moser, Executive Vice President of Industrial Technology, ZF Group, told the media on Wednesday that the plant has capacity to produce 22,000 transmissions and 35,000 axles annually. While majority of the production will be exported initially, supply to the domestic market will increase in the coming years.
'The new plant in Coimbatore together with the main hub in Germany will support the production capacity needed for the future market growth in the global construction equipment market.
'The Off-Highway plant will support ZF's growth in India, supplying world class technology to domestic and global OEMs,' he said in a press release.
According to Peter Laier, Member of the ZF Group Board of Management and Head – Commercial Vehicle Solutions and Industrial Technology, with presence in 19 locations in the country, the ZF Group looks at India as an engineering hub.
Akash Passey, president, ZF Group India, said the wind power plant has 12 GW capacity in Coimbatore with scope for expansion.

Relief for parents as notebooks cost less after raw paper prices fall
Pune: Parents across Pune are breathing easier this school season after a noticeable drop in the prices of notebooks and school stationery. The academic year will begin in 10 days for most govt and private schools and the markets are bustling. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The price reduction is largely due to a steep fall—around 40 to 50%—in the cost of raw paper imported from abroad. This led to a 15 to 20% drop in the prices of notebooks, registers, and other paper-based school materials. Retailers confirmed that notebooks which cost ₹400–₹450 per dozen last year are now available for ₹300. A4-size notebooks, earlier priced at ₹600 per dozen, are now being sold at ₹450–₹480. Drawing books, which were ₹42, are now ₹32 per book. However, prices for felt pens and whiteners remained unchanged. "Prices have come down by at least 10-15%," Rajiv Chandak of Trimurti Traders said. "Medium-quality A4 notebooks that sold for ₹540 are now ₹450. We've revised our cash memos to reflect the new rates." Sachin Gaikwad of ABC Stationers added, "Last year, A4 notebooks were priced between ₹700 and ₹800 depending on the brand. This year, they are available for as low as ₹300. It's a 5–8% dip across various formats." Nikhil Shah of Bombay Book Manufacturing Company said, "Paper rates have stabilised. Last year, during the peak season, prices shot up. This year, the same A4 notebook from a top brand like Classmate, which cost Rs 75, is available for Rs 65." Kothrud resident Suhas Kulkarni said, "We have two school-going children, so every rupee matters. Compared to the last year, our stationery bill is down by nearly 20%. Kondhwa resident Vaishali Kedari said, "Usually, we spend a lot on notebooks and registers. But this year, the prices are really reasonable. With school reopening just a week away, shopkeepers expect more crowds during this weekend and over the next week. For now, the price correction is happy news.

POWERGRID, PEC join hands to set up training & research centre
Chandigarh: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has partnered with Punjab Engineering College (deemed to be university), Chandigarh, to set up a state-of-the-art POWERGRID Centre of Excellence at PEC. The MoU was signed Friday by POWERGRID ED Tarun Bajaj and PEC director Rajesh Kumar Bhatia in a ceremony attended by Chandigarh chief secretary Rajeev Verma, POWERGRID CMD RK Tyagi, and other senior officials. The centre will be developed at a cost of more than Rs 17 crore. This new facility aims to enhance PEC's electrical engineering curriculum through advanced labs focused on numerical relays, Phasor measurement units (PMUs), inverters, cybersecurity, e-mobility, and real-time simulation tools. It will provide students, researchers, and faculty hands-on experience in cutting-edge power sector technologies. Prof Bhatia thanked POWERGRID for supporting this initiative, which promises to boost research and learning opportunities at PEC. RK Tyagi, recalling his days as a PEC student, described the centre as POWERGRID's contribution to India's vision of a unified and modern power grid. Chief secretary Rajeev Verma said the centre will serve as a hub for innovation and contribute to India's goals for energy security and a sustainable, zero-emission future. POWERGRID, a Maharatna company under the ministry of power, operates a vast transmission network across northern India, including Punjab and Chandigarh, with a focus on technology-driven efficiency and reliability. The MoU is part of its CSR initiative.
